Hi everyone, I’m Paul and a lot of you may know me as paul2478 from the forums. I live in Australia having moved here nearly 7 years ago from the UK.
I have played football games since the mid eighties, starting with Match Day on my 48k Spectrum and Konami football games since the original ISS on the SNES. I still remember going round to my friend’s house one Saturday and when he loaded it up it looked so much better than any football game I had ever played. It was of course released in 1995 & many of the stars of the 1994 World Cup that we had watched were accurately represented.
Whether it was the “divine Ponytail” Baggio, Valderama or Lalas, even with the fake names you could tell who each player was meant to be. We played it solid for the whole day (with a brief break to go outside and play some actual football), we even made our own fun trying to beat each other by running the goalie up the pitch to score to see the funny waving hand celebration .
This started my love affair with ISS/PES. The series has gripped me like no other game and while I may skip a year of Tiger Woods I always get the new PES. I played all the games up to PES 2009 on the PS2 and edited the game a bit, but once I got a PS3 I got full on into editing and have released an OF every year since.
I always loved playing ML, building up my squad to include my favourite players, although since its introduction in PES 2009 these days I almost always play BAL when I’m not editing. I know a lot of you are not fans of the mode due to reasons like being subbed off after 60 minutes or teammates not playing the pass you want/expect. In future posts I plan on posting my tips on how to find a good way to get the most enjoyment out of the mode.
I also hope to post some things regarding editing as I know this is one of the most active sections of the forums and is something I (and a lot of you) spend time doing. I know there are many things I would like to see implemented when it comes to editing the game and will be discussing them in future posts.
Just to finish up for today I thought I would bring up the subject of PES online. First up, I have to admit that I’m not a big fan of online gaming. I think mainly due to the amount of cheating which effects most games not just PES. However I have played a bit of PES online, especially MLO last year in order to get PES points quickly. I probably played around 150 games in the 1st month so I could get the points to unlock what I needed for my OF and I only had 4 or 5 disconnections in that time. From what I have read I was lucky and it seems there are plenty of people out there overloading their internet to get the match abandoned.
Every time Konami release a patch people want to know what is being done about this cheating. I have had a think about it and can only come up with two solutions. The first option would be to take away all online stat tracking and ranking points. If there is no leader board, there is no reason to cheat your way out of a defeat.
The second option is that is if any game is not completed due to any reason then both players are given a 3-0 defeat. This can still be exploited as if someone is losing 5-0 they may still disconnect and the other player is penalised, but I still think it would lead to a reduction in disconnections.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments and thanks for reading, Paul (paul2478).
