This post has changed quite a bit since I first started it, but I want to discuss something that a lot of you who visit this site are interested in which is editing. I don’t know about you all, but the main reason I found this site many years ago was due to the editing side of PES & it has kept me coming back for more. The main reason for the changes is I have finally been able to get all the software working which allows you to take a PS3 or Xbox option file and convert it to PC so you can use editors such as W!ld’s, which allow you to change things you couldn’t normally do.
The two most important things this allows you to do are bring back old preset faces of players who are no longer in the game or no longer licensed and edit the fake hidden teams that appear when playing in Europe during ML or BAL. These are things that we should be able to without the use of external tools, which leads in nicely to the main thing I want to discuss, improvements I would like to see made to the edit mode in PES.
Obviously preset faces bring added realism to the game and Konami have improved them quite a bit over the last few years, in my opinion the players look better in PES than they do in FIFA (or any other EA Sports game) I don’t know how many of you have played Grand Slam Tennis 2, but Nadal looks more like Jar Jar Binks than his actual self. PES 2013 contains more than 2,000 preset faces, but a lot are inaccessible without the above tools, maybe Konami could bring back something from the PS2 days where you could add any preset to any player within the games edit mode. The same could be done with the preset hairstyles meaning no need to base copy players to get their hairstyle. Also the ability to add beards to any preset, without having to use the BAL workaround would be most welcome.
Most of you would have come across at least one of the 6 hidden teams while playing ML or BAL, ideally there should be no hidden teams. These teams (even just as they are) should have been added to the Other European Teams section so they could be both used and edited. PES 2010 did this, and I think from memory there were 11 fake teams to make up the numbers, but they were easily edited and could be used in any game mode.
Currently there are a number of limits imposed in editing, 20 stadiums, 36 teams, 51 emblems, 600 kits, 600 scans, etc. This may be due to the current game engine, so hopefully these restrictions will be removed for PES 2014 with its new Fox Engine. We should be able to create as many players, teams, stadiums as we like with the only restriction being the size of your hard drive; it’s not like the old days with 8mb memory cards.
Being able to add PNG’s to kits is great, but as we all know it is only for the front of the shirt, it would be nice if we could import a PNG that looks like the kit PNG’s used by the game & PC tools like kitserver that add detail to the whole kit. If this isn’t possible then another option is to be able to add a PNG to the back of the shirt as well and the shorts/socks. Not really editing related, but still on kits, it would be nice to see the return of mix and match kits as on the PS2. I believe this was removed due to licensing issues, but it would be good to see it return. Another nice return would be 2nd goalkeeper kits, I don’t think this has been in on the current gen and I’m not sure why it was ever removed.
That’s probably enough for you all to take in at the moment, what would you all like to see implemented?
