PES Editing Improvements

This post has changed quite a bit since I first started it, but I want to discuss something that a lot of you who visit this site are interested in which is editing. I don’t know about you all, but the main reason I found this site many years ago was due to the editing side of PES & it has kept me coming back for more. The main reason for the changes is I have finally been able to get all the software working which allows you to take a PS3 or Xbox option file and convert it to PC so you can use editors such as W!ld’s, which allow you to change things you couldn’t normally do.

The two most important things this allows you to do are bring back old preset faces of players who are no longer in the game or no longer licensed and edit the fake hidden teams that appear when playing in Europe during ML or BAL. These are things that we should be able to without the use of external tools, which leads in nicely to the main thing I want to discuss, improvements I would like to see made to the edit mode in PES.

Preset Faces

Obviously preset faces bring added realism to the game and Konami have improved them quite a bit over the last few years, in my opinion the players look better in PES than they do in FIFA (or any other EA Sports game) I don’t know how many of you have played Grand Slam Tennis 2, but Nadal looks more like Jar Jar Binks than his actual self. PES 2013 contains more than 2,000 preset faces, but a lot are inaccessible without the above tools, maybe Konami could bring back something from the PS2 days where you could add any preset to any player within the games edit mode. The same could be done with the preset hairstyles meaning no need to base copy players to get their hairstyle. Also the ability to add beards to any preset, without having to use the BAL workaround would be most welcome.

Hidden Teams

Most of you would have come across at least one of the 6 hidden teams while playing ML or BAL, ideally there should be no hidden teams. These teams (even just as they are) should have been added to the Other European Teams section so they could be both used and edited. PES 2010 did this, and I think from memory there were 11 fake teams to make up the numbers, but they were easily edited and could be used in any game mode.

No Limits

Currently there are a number of limits imposed in editing, 20 stadiums, 36 teams, 51 emblems, 600 kits, 600 scans, etc. This may be due to the current game engine, so hopefully these restrictions will be removed for PES 2014 with its new Fox Engine. We should be able to create as many players, teams, stadiums as we like with the only restriction being the size of your hard drive; it’s not like the old days with 8mb memory cards.

Being able to add PNG’s to kits is great, but as we all know it is only for the front of the shirt, it would be nice if we could import a PNG that looks like the kit PNG’s used by the game & PC tools like kitserver that add detail to the whole kit. If this isn’t possible then another option is to be able to add a PNG to the back of the shirt as well and the shorts/socks. Not really editing related, but still on kits, it would be nice to see the return of mix and match kits as on the PS2. I believe this was removed due to licensing issues, but it would be good to see it return. Another nice return would be 2nd goalkeeper kits, I don’t think this has been in on the current gen and I’m not sure why it was ever removed.

That’s probably enough for you all to take in at the moment, what would you all like to see implemented?

Thanks for reading, Paul

  1. Hi there, I found your blog via Google while looking for a related topic, your
site came up, it looks great. I have bookmarked it in my google bookmarks.

Nets nets nets,, 4 or 5 different stanchion style to choose from, 70′s and 80′s world cup style, 80′s and 90′s wembley style, plus the option to choose the netting tension, colour, stripes or squares etc.

@realist, I was waiting to see who the 1st person would be to suggest a net editor :)

This is a good list bud. You’ve pretty much covered what I’d like to see.

All-around png’s would be great but I’d be happy with simply more layers for shirts, shorts and socks- I think Stoke’s home shirt can be accurately made with about 10 layers but that would leave the problem of the backs of the shirts. An all-around png would certainly be better. I would like to see the return of shirt numbers with outlines.

I like the stadium creator (it was a lovely surprise when it first appeared) but the way the advertising hoarding png’s are saved make it difficult to keep a track of, let alone keep neat and tidy. I’d like to see it continue to grow as well.

I was disappointed with the inability to create the Arsenal home shirt for this year. In fact, all the Nike shirts with that particular template (Brazil, Everton, Mainz etc.). These kits came out months before PES was released.

It’s a bit old skool but I’d love to see the boot editor back. I figured it disappeared due to licensing concerns but how is it any different to having the adidas stripes across two layers on the kits? You can still have the official boots but having a boot editor instead of the green, blue, pink etc default boots would be class.

Oh and the timer that shows you how long you’ve spent playing each mode- they took edit mode out. It makes me both proud and sad to know that I spent 800 hours editing Pro Evo 5 over two years.

@paul, if i was the only one wanting this i would be ashamed of myself, truth is that as far as editing goes, most pes gamers would love this included, the nets have been pretty poor on ps3\360, from droopy netting to netting that nearly goes back into the crowd when a powerful shot goes in, not good enough, when i see games on sky or Espn from the past i think “i want those nets” the modern day nets are great but Konami struggle to replicate them to a good enough standard, watch football on tv and you see varying netting tension, different coloured netting with stripes etc, give gamers the chance to design their own netting in the stadium edit section, just found this clip on youtube, i want these nets to be selectable.

@Meat, Cheers mate, good point on the number of layers, it was something I meant to include when discussing kits. Also a great point on the Nike kits, they look great with short sleeves, but rubbish when long. Maybe the option to edit the kit as a short sleeve & long sleeve separately would be a good option.

I like the stadium creator, but agree more options would make it better.

Boot editor would be good, I think it’s still in the PS2 version (at least I know it was on PES 2009) but I do thing it was removed due to licensing, which is less of a issue on PS2 as there are no licensed boots. Something I thought that would be good is being able to change the colourways of boots by player so you could add say the Nike Tiempo’s to Javier Hernandez, but say you want the blue to white & the white to be blue.

Yeah edit mode should rejoin the list, it was always fun to see that I had racked up 5 times as long in edit mode than all the other modes combined.

@realist, sorry mate my comment was a attempt at humour. Although it would not be no. 1 on my list I know plenty of people who would like to see this option. I was more aiming at the fact that for as long as I can remember people have asked for this even before asking for a stadium editor.

Personally I think it would be a good addition as the more we can edit the better as far as I’m concerned.

  8. realist says:

@paul, Ha, I knew what you meant., no problem, nets, boots, stadium, how the grass is cut, balls, kits, face scans, extra slots for more created leagues, these should all be included, it’s what people want, boot editor doesn’t bother me but thousands of people want it, nets don’t bother a lot of people but the net editor should be there for the people who do want it, edit mode should eat your life away with its depth, that way everyone can set the visual side of the game to the way they want it.
