Michael Owen to partner Ronaldo on cover!!!

I seriously doubt Newcastle are licensed. I suspect Owen will appear in an approximation of the England kit like Terry did for PES6. Infact, I am sure that PES7's cover will be almost identical to PES6's with just the players involved being swopped.

I think Owen's appearance is simply because he was the biggest England face they could get on the cover that wasn't John Terry (or you may as well call it John Terry Evolution soccer). Apart from Rooney (who was probably tied into another deal), no-one else is really cover material. Ronaldo and Phil Neville on the cover doesn't really have the same impact.

I would hope that future editions take the same approach as the big football brands like Nike and Adidas do. Get a multitude of stars from around the globe on the cover and crank up the style. None of this naff schoolboy Photoshop jobs!

My tips for the EPL licenses are Man Utd and Liverpool.

Usually though if a team isn't licensed, during a photoshoot they would remove the badge and sponsor etc. Or simply make the player wear a blank sports shirt, but Owen as we can see is in his full Newcastle kit. Terry on the cover was draped in a blank Umbro kit since Chelsea weren't licensed and Adriano was in what appeared to be a blanked out Brazil kit because as we know they weren't licensed. But here, Owen is in full view with his Newcastle kit on, badge and all.

I'm not sure that's an official shot. I know Owen modelled Newcastle's kit in a recent shoot and it's possible that the Winning Eleven Blog took an image of him with a ball and simply edited it accordingly. Maybe it is official tho in which case, we would have to assume PES7 is gonna suck! Come on..Newcastle?! They aren't even in the Intertoto! :w00t

I'm sure Konami have approached these guys but for whatever reason, they have turned it down. If he stays fit, I'm sure Owen will have a great season and one that would befit being the cover star of a football game. He only needs to score a few goals from the start of the season to the end of October and everyone would think Konami were justified in picking him.

Won't be long before Lennon is on the cover tho. ;)

Is this a hint that your players will get injured alot more on PES 2008? I can't recall ever having a player injured for more than 2 weeks on my ML which i found a bit shit. I wanted it to be more realistic with players having bad injuries like they do on Madden and also include potential career threatening injuries.

Perhaps with an injury prone player on the cover we might see this a bit more :erm:

I remember on the PS2, may have been on PES5, me and my mate were doing a ML together. One of our players was well and truly decapitated during a match and was completely crocked for... wait for it.... 34 weeks! Was hilarious mind, the sheer rareness of the incident and the fact we had to replace him for a season was great. It made it so much more realistic, shame he almost had to retire I think, stats went downhill over the year or so out I believe. Can't remember his name though unfortunately.

erm...that pic looks obviously photoshopped. i mean seriously, look at the logo on the ball. it is ontop of the ball and not part of it. it is not an official photoshoot.

but owen, i guess he is an alright choice. not that i really care who is on.

why do they insist on at least one wanker on every cover? first Adriano, now Owen who will probably rarely play due to injury!

infact he's injured yet again, says so on BBC.
because that would guarantee little miggy would play pes at home more often.

on the linked page whats the fans all about eh?

@Psimonious: becks?

No, his time had been and gone a while ago. He needed to be on the cover circa 2000 to maximise his reputation. Besides, the UK packaging needs a player based in the UK. Having him playing in a non-European mickey mouse league completely undermines his credibility as a serious representative.

I think PES8 could see Aaron Lennon on the cover.

Little Mike does look like a total fucking gimp in that pic like. It's typical they choose to licence one of our worst home kits for years, but I s'pose there's no sense in complaining.

yea lucky for you, im still praying chelsea are Licensed, because u can blatantly tell the kits are edited if they are not licensed, it would make my gaming experience RULE if chelsea was Licensed, i LOVED when they were on evo 5. clearly the best team in England so why are they not yet licensed when (No offence because i do like them) Newcastle are?! it dont make sense.
