hi guys, can u suggest a good formation for liverpool in pes 2008 ? my friend plays with 4-3-3 with manutd. And in pes 2008 , manutd players are inhumanly fast. in with tevez n cron on the wings and vidic n rio at the back , its almost immposible to score. Can anyone suggest any good formations. i was playing with 4-2-3-1 the contemporary liv style, buthis midfld is totally empty with one dmf. he plays with 2 SS and lmf n rmf's.

So how to rip his team apart ?

well that all is discribe is not the same on pes 2008 on playstation 3
can someone write in more simple way
thanks

Firstly, if you don't know how to do it, here is an explanation of how to change formation in game without pausing.

01. Set up your default formation just as you normally would. Make sure every tiny detail is perfect. Set individual attack and defence arrows. Pick your best team, this may not be final until you have finished Formations A and B.

02. Go into STRATEGY, You will see

MANUAL
SEMIAUTO
FORMATION A
FORMATION B
COPY TO A
COPY TO B

select MANUAL, then assign Triangle to Formation A, and Square to Formation B. Assign X to Counter Attack and Circle to whatever you want.

03. Then select COPY TO A+B. This will give you a template to work on for your alternate formations.

04. Go into FORMATION A and move your players around to whatever you want. Alter attack and defence arrows as required. Try not to pull too many players out of their default positions, a couple of subtle changes can have as much impact as a full formation change. You need to take into account your players abilities and what other positions they can play. Do the same for FORMATION B.

05. Now you're ready to test it out. Use Exhibitions until you find the right balance, so you don't mess up your league if it isn't working for you. To activate the formation changes in game, you need to press L2 + Triangle or Square. When the symbol appears next to your status bar, it means it's active. Don't have both on at the same time though, they'll cancel each other out.

06. Practice and experiment. That is after all what gaming is all about.

OTHER NOTES.
Instead of having 3 formations, you could go for a simpler option of just 2. Instead of selecting MANUAL, select SEMIAUTO and assign L2 to FORMATION A. This way you only have to press L2 in game to activate your formation change. And it makes using the other strategies, like counter attack and zone press easier as all 3 will be automatic. Although the hardcore won't like the idea of the computer changing for them.
Player selection and positioning is key. You may need to edit some players to compensate for extra positions Konami didn't get right.
Your formation will only be saved in your master league if you have done it within the menu system, and not before a game. If you do it before a game, go to stock formation to save it.
Don't forget to save it.

All the details you could need are on the images.
HIGH NORMAL LOW (blue text) = individual defensive status (blue arrows). Accessed with Formation, Individual.

Earlier pictures were made for PES3, later you will see a new design, they are for PES4, but the idea carries through both games.
Enjoy.

I would perhaps suggest something like:
GK Reina
DR Finnan/Arbeloa
DL Riise
DC Carragher
DC Agger
DMC Mascherano
DMC Sissoko/Alonso/Lucas
CM Gerrard
AMC Benayoun/Kuyt/Kewell
AMC Babel
FC Torres

Catch 'im on the break. Or, if you're playing on your machine, edit C Ronaldo to another club beforehand, then he can't score.

Heyy everybody, i have a problem!! basically, i play my brother in exhibition mode and all he has is ONE tactic and he ALWAYS beats me.

He just has strong fast-ish wingers (e.g. zlatan, suazo) and goes round the side of my defence and then cuts in and either passes or shoots. He beat me 7-3 last time when i was brazil and he was inter. I even tried 5 at the back to try and stop him going down the wings, but he just jinks left and right with the strong wingers and then cuts in when he gets near the byline. its VERY frustrating.

Any idea on which teams to use to beat him and what kind of formation/tactics.

Btw, im pretty good at pes 2008, im not a newbie, my rating is high 600 so quite impressive.

I'd appreciate your help on how to beat this tactic that my brother uses

p.s. do you think i should use strong people at right and left back e.g. adriano!!
thanx.

it depends how you play, if you feel comfortable defending with less player or you prefer more players at the back and try to counter attack. Also if you're playing the computer then just about any formation will work if you can play the game.
Against someone else, and i guess good computer opposition it also depends on the formation they're playing.

I would say that your 4-3-1-2 looks a bit inbalanced and it looks like it wouldn't be too difficult for someone to dominate the midfield while keeping your striker(s) in check.

But again it's your ability, if you're pretty good at defending then 3 at the back is probably best although there's nothing wrong with 4. Are you good at dribbling past def's with one striker or do you need 2 or 3 to find the gaps.

No offence but i'm guessing you're not brilliant and that's why you're asking. so a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 would be good to start with, but a variation of 3-5-2 is probably best with strong quick defenders at the back.

is this just against the computer or against someone who plays a certain formation?

hope that helps a little, can't say i'm an expert but there you go i tried.

personally in trying to do mission 90 i've discovered a 2-3-3-2 works quite well.

Personally I try not to stray much from the default formations, and play to each teams strengths. For example Italian teams I find too slow to use wingers so I always use the centre attacking formations

well i disagree i use all teams fast and slow and still find my 41122 with wingers or just use wing play wins most of tha time or just flood tha middle n over run them gaps always appear! but like some1 said b4 its tha player not tha team i use rangers wen i want to take micky out of players that mouth off wen it matters chelsea all way

lampard is god!!!!!

Because most of the pictures and info were originally for PES3 or 4. The menu's have changed slightly, but it's all still there.
I will update the thread soon.

A superb Friday night of football over at my mates house. We skinned up and got down to business. I used the same set up all night. (Will post image here later.)
1. Me 3 Him 2 (first goal 6 mins, Zidane screamer)
2. Me 6 Him 2 (Dominated and destroyed)
3. Me 6 Him 2 (Conceded 2, then scored 6)
4. Me 1 Him 8 (All went horribly wrong, had Henry sent off 4 mins in, lost plot)
5. Me 6 Him 4 (went 4-0 down and pulled it back in second half, possibly my best game ever )
6. Me 5 Him 5, and Pele misses in penalties, I lose.

This is an example, if you use these formations effectively, you can score a lot of goals, but the dark side is you can make mistakes and suffer (got beat 8-1 one game)
I believe in true entertainment, and that is how I play my football. I like to attack, concede goals, then score more. People love watching me play, never a dull moment.
The lad I played against has been my sparring partner for years, and we regularly compete, I have the edge on games won, but he has the ability to upset the stats (usually has the luck on his side) he is more of a simple and effective player. The only reason I have posted this is because of my excitement. My PS2 is broken at the mo and I only get to play when I go to a mates house, the fact that I've hardly played the game for a month, and still went over and beat him convincingly makes me feel very good. I can't believe I almost forgot how good the game is.
Then we put TOCA Race Driver 2 on XBox. What a fucking game that is too.

To JMZ: What team are playing with? I see Pele and Henry....
Thanks

That was back on PES4 or 5, and we were using our ML Teams. I'm not crazy with the superstars these days.

I'm desperate to throw a bit of life into this thread again, but I never seem to have the time anymore. I love reading how different people play the game, and each post seems to add new info to the topic. It makes me happy to know people are sitting tinkering for hours, and sharing their experience. I've learnt quite a bit since starting this thread, and never really thanked anybody for their contributions. Thank you all.

The sad news is that since I live with my girlfriend now, my PES career has taken somewhat of a slump. I've not been playing it much, and when I went back to it the other night I got knocked out of the Masters Cup, I had a 2-0 lead from the first leg, but managed to get beat 3-0. So I picked Classic Brazil and played against a nobody team, and only managed to win 1-0. I think I may be losing my powers. Anyway, I'm going to play for a few hours this afternoon. I should be working.

EDIT: By the way, I have updated the first page for PES2009. Sorry it took so long!

So you changed PES for a girl? I hope she's hot!

I play with Ajax and found that their default formation, an offensive 4-3-3 suited me quite well. The two SB go all the way up the flanks in the attack, in the mid I have 1 DMF, one CMF who and one AMF, 2 wings and the CF. I've only played around with the attacking arrows a bit to make them more offensive and I also set the defense level to low for the attacking players.

Yeah I like that Kewell. I don't like to play so negatively/defensively myself, but I can see its advantages. It looks very strong.

Jordan74, I don't have any youth players in my team yet (apart from the classics, who start at 17), and I think my mates are only a few seasons in so I don't know. I haven't seen any yet. A way to check is load your MLteam up in exhibition and just check out his stats. You'll know that way. The classic players revert to what they are in match mode (default), which is good because they start in ML with lowered stats and you have to build them up. Does that make sense?

I had a good weekend on PES with the lads, I got beat a few times last weekend, but this time I was unbeaten all weekend. The highlight of the session was a 5-4 victory against my best mate. Both with our superstar ML teams. He was 2-0 up after 20 mins, I fought back to 2-2, then snatched the lead at 3-2, then he pulled it back to 4-3, then I got a last minute equaliser, and scored the golden goal after about 40 passes from my kick off. Fabulous game.

JMZ: I need your help

I am playing Barcelona. My fried is using Manchester United.
I tried several tactics and formations with no luck. My main problem is that I dominate the ball, have more posession, my friend kills me with the counter attacks. He sends the ball to Park Ji Sung or Cristiano Rolando, then they send a thru ball to Rooney or Tevez. They dribble Puyol or Marquez and I have a one-on-one situation against my GK.
It is very frustrating. I tried 4-3-3 and 4-4-2. I am trying to find a formation and tactic that can help me with Manchester counter attacks in one hand, and in the other hand to be "barcelona alike".. If you have any of this recommendations, I will appreciate it. If you think that Barcelona is not the best team to play against MU, please suggest me a team that it is.

Thanks in advance and excuse any typos or errors in this message.

you are right.... while playing against MAN UTD or any pace teams .. what you gotta do is to
1) make your defence line hold deep to goal.....
2) mark aggressively - berbatov and rooney use
3) when cursor is on your defender, use L1 to block the wingers way at the same time press shoot button for an assistant defender[com] to chase him..this is a nice idea and very effective tactic for stopping wingers. but don use this tactic when you are inside box, which would be dangerous. and make sure that the cursor is set to assisted in your cursor settings.
