Well, the 'new' Messi looks better, in a way, but the old one does look more like the real one. Must be the expression...

They probably just picked the wrong angle. They've always been an incompetent bunch.

yeah must be in-game....cant be an intro screenshot becaues they never use real players or teams in the intro clip.......its always someone who you swear looks like Beckham....but never actualy is...

Yeah I noticed the Hair, it looks great, much better than 2009.

The Hair is one of does things that in my opinion looks crappy in PES09. The Faces are already good, but the Hair looks too cartoonish and unrealistic. That's one of the things that definitely needs to improve -- The Hair graphics and movement.

Carles Puyol hair looks like a piece of plastic glued to his head.. Pavel Nedved's hair isn't that bad, but there's no movement, it looks like a helmet for the most part.

They need to improve on this as it haves a very negative effect on the good job they did with the Faces.

Judging by the Messi Pic, the Hair looks much more realistic, I hope it not only "looks" realistic -but- also that it MOVES realistically.

I agree the hair isn't great, never really thought about it until recently when I was editing the classic 90's OF. And whats the story with mustaches? Seaman and Rush had more than a little stubble :)

I agree about the hair. It's looking awesome in pes 2010 so far with messi as the example.
Personally I think that the whole body and face are better not just the hair. But the hair looks MOST improved.

Hopefully it MOVES more like Real Hair.

But yeah, the hair looks much better.. and that's great because the cartoonish-looking hair in PES09 haves a negative effect on the good job they did with the Faces.

Just compare the "New Messi" with the "Current Messi". There is a clear difference in the Hair, the 09-Hair looks like plastic. The newer one haves great details of lighting, and looks much more realistic.

But I'm still wondering if it will have more movement, instead of the "helmet" feel.

^Well, yeah. I am also concerned about hair movement. That's what makes it pop out in graphics and realism.

promo shot not in game. same old stuff as every year, some tantilising new screen shots and loads of mouth watering info then the game ends up been the same as last year. no way they are the graphics, its too much of a good increase for konami who have been taking ridiculously small steps with pes recently. wait for gameplay videos then we can start to judge the graphics

Why not? You know what the ps3/360 are capable of right?
Take GTA IV, midnight club los angeles, assassins creed, fallout. These are all examples of awesome graphics.;)

If it's not real then the whole press release is fake and I think it would be a huge waste of time for anyone to have written up a press release and made this pic, then sent it to all the right people to get it picked up by WENB, etc...

If it were fake, why didn't they include something more shocking in the press release to go with it?

No. It's real, and likely an in-game screen, but maybe at a higher res/poly-count.

One thing to note is that as graphics get better in general I think it actually gets more difficult for designers to get the players to look like their real life counterparts. In PES 2, all that was needed was to add a bald patch and you think the player model looks exactly like Zidane (because you imagine what's missing). Now, every detail needs to be spot-on, from different postions and angles and also when the player has different facial expressions. It's likely that in some ways the players may seem to resemble the real-life counterparts even less in 2010, but it seems like the overal graphics are getting much better.

I work in gfx industry and its not possible to create such a 3d image which have konami feels to it with everyone. It needs professional level know how of 3d modeling and visualizations ... and in all major pes site this image has been posted ...

Is it hard and is it taking a long time to do a screenshot like that?
