Isn't it time we make one of these for the latest installment as well?

Everyone knows how these kinds of threads work, let's share our BAL stories with one another.

Anyway, I started my 2011 BAL experience by creating a striker, because judging from the DEMO and various videos, the attacking game seems much more about taking good runs behind the defensive line now, which I like.

No scout matches anymore people! Instead, you instantly sign for ONE team in each of the SIX possible leagues, on a 2 year contract with a fixed salary at 50 000 Euro's. I chose to sign for Valenciennes, the french team available because I chose to be a french striker. Woo me!

First match was a training match - and you have these training matches every now and then in-between your actual matches (which makes sense in the off-season, but not in the middle of an actual season) and I did fairly well, in my opinion. It's all about getting used to the game right now (the captain even told me after the game "Don't worry about mistakes and such now, we're still in the getting-to-know-you stage" - nice little after-game addition there).

There's a new feature in where the manager rates you and your competitors together, and whoever has the highest rating, is the one who gets to start (as far as I've noticed) unless you're tired at which you might even be RESTED (cool huh?).

Your agent - yes, you have one and it's that you spend your money on - tells you of certain important things such as interest, if you're getting rested or benched and stat gains.

Right now, I have played a little more than a quarter of the season and we're doing fairly well. A few numbers;

Beat Bordeaux in the very first game - 2-1
Lost to Lyon a couple of games after - 1-2
Beat Nice and scored four goals - 4-0

We're currently in tenth, which I guess is acceptable.

All in all, I'm liking this years BAL. Aside from the game being much better than last year, BAL has a ton of new nice features. Looking forward to get better eventually - because the stats increase really slowly, as opposed to superfast in 2010.

One little thing is that it might even be a little TOO hard to get past defenders sometimes.

As soon as I have the ball, I usually have less than a second before the ball is pretty much out of my control. The AI defenders press hard and they're quick.

It can be a little counter-productive when you're in a team that plays a single striker up top and a counter-based football.

EDIT: Oh goodie, my team captain (our goalkeeper) just told me that I've become a very important player for the team and that the teammates will look to play the ball to me more often.

Awesome.

So with the League Edit is it possible to mix up the leagues for BaL as well as ML? I normally have the most prestigious teams together in my D1 line-up, so I wouldn't mind doing the same with BaL.

Just a weird note - Mainz is leading the Bundesliga on my game, just as they are in real life, though

Freaky...

Although it was cool, I don't think you should judge it like that. It's better if you play it first and then see if with all the new improvements, the scout match was necessary or not.:)

^i know its a big improvement from last years bal :), but having to feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction after making it to a club and making it to the first team, is one thing that fifa lacks a lot. and thats what makes become a legend much better than fifas be a pro : Realism. The scout match and training should return.:D

Meh, the scout match and training matches were gimmicks.

Unless you played so poorly that you wouldn't be accepted to a charity game for handicapped children, you never got relegated to the reserve team and the whole training match thing quickly dissapeared from everyone's mind.

I got relegated back to it once, and that was because I got a 6.0 in my first sub-in and a red-card fueled 5.0 in my second.

I like the extra content shop for PES 2011. You can just use an unlocker to give you max GP and then you have so many fancy features! And you can finally play as defender, which is quite nice, but most likely boring. I'm gonna play a season as real-life defender (you can buy that feature too).

Well, it isn't required to buy them. You can just use the function in the unlocker to give you max GP (~16 mil.) and then you can buy what you want to buy.

Anyways, I'm playing as CF named Lucas Schneider from Germany. Playing in Primera Division team Getafe C.F (using PESPatches 0.1 patch), recently started so nothing special happend. I'm playing on Amateur difficulty thought, because it's just unfair how all defenders gang up on you. You literally can't make a breakthrought (unless you get forward pass which is too inacurrate most of the time) as all of them will be stopped by the defenders.

Personally, I've been messing about with the difficulties and I've come to the conclusion that Regular is just hard enough to be relatively realistic, whilst still forgiving enough to stay fun (Top Player is the prestigious difficulty but it quickly becomes much less fun).

And honestly, you just gotta choose your moments mate. I've scored quite a few goals, as a 64 rated CF with the Goalscorer option (high shooting stats, slow speed). Most are scored through well taken runs.

Though I'd say I score, or even get a chance to score, on one of four runs. Which sounds pretty realistic in my head.

I've sworn more times to the game than I did during PES 2010 but it's not so much that it becomes the worst game ever - if I play well and make good runs I still have a chance to win games. But if I don't, there's a good chance I'll lose.

Just the balance I like :)

EDIT: Just had a perfect example - we (Valenciennes) were playing really poorly agains't Sochueax, they had 60% of the possession and we were throwing away passes all the time. To top it off, they score right before the half-time whistle.

However, in the second half, our manager tells us to go for the quick counter and to pressure them up front. He slots in another striker next to me and by the 75th minute, the score is 2-1 after two quick-fire goals (one of which was mine, I bagged a return that ended up at my feet)

I'm loving it, the play is so dynamic.

BAL this year is definitely an improvement over the previous installments, but I can't help but feel how... weak? the PES Konami team feel overall. I don't know what it is, maybe it's the lack of additional content each year, lack of realism outside of gameplay (match schedules, spending money, shoe ratings wtf, etc), but it just feels like everything is just a little too oversimplified, and I can't wonder why Konami, being the great video game company they are, can't get themselves to truly improve the game. I said this before but they can improve 10000x just by playing one season of Football Manager, it's kinda sad the state they're in.

But BAL is still fun, and the AI is far better, more than 2009 and 2010 combined. I think I'll actually enjoy BAL this time. Just kinda wish the coach had voiceover acting and the english grammar for the subtitles were actually correct. "This is just a get to know you game"? What about "get-to-know-you"????? abs pathetic for this day and age but meeeeeh

...the metal gear solid team should take over for 1 year :( heh

Hmm...

I've finished my first season and the impressions I get are mixed.

The game is better this year, no doubt.

But the AI is still shit.

Polished shit, it LOOKS like your teammates are playing smarter than before. But truth to be told, they're still pants-on-head retarded. The teammate AI programming is, sadly, not yet good enough to warrant a high grade from me.

They're constantly doing the same moves over and over, and said moves rarely work. Wingers often move out on the wings and try to either pass the ball in along the floor, which results in it landing at any random defenders feet, or they will try to cross it and always overshoot it which results in it landing any random defenders head.

There's also far, far too much difference between your teammates and the opposing players in terms of how they behave.

Please Konami, just equalise the behavioral AI for both sides. Please.

Well, it IS still better than last year but the risk is that it is easier to get bored with BAL this year.

So far so good, I just created a winger with 90 agility, I signed with Sochaux monbland of ligue 1. Teh gameplay is miles better whic is what I care about making runs inthe box and ta AI actual serve you the passes feels incredibly satisfying. I will play some more to find out more about the mode.

Can any of you guys with the game answer a BAL question for me? Is it possible to sign with a club in the Other leagues Europe instead of being forced to select from one of the leagues in game?

Ligue 1
Eredivisie
Premiere League
Serie A
Primera Division
Other teams <-------- This one.

This wasn't available in '10 but was in '09 and was the main reason why I sold the game after about one month.

Thanks in advance :)

I've made it into my second season as a striker. I signed on for a Dutch team (Heracles). They were also playing in Europa League. They were in the same group as Liverpool. We actually managed to win our group, but lost to a French team in the first knockout round. We finished 5th in my first season. When the transfer window opened I managed to get a contract offer from A.C. Milan, but I turned them down, since I only had a 10% chance of playing.

Bolton made me an offer I couldn't refuse. They were the perfect team. They played offensive possession football and used a 4-4-2 formation. After a few matches (where we managed to beat Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea) the manager changed the formation to a 4-3-2-1 :crymore: Has anyone experienced that the manager suddenly changes the formation?

I surely hopes someone will buy me in January, because otherwise I have to be at Bolton for a whole season before I can leave them. I can't afford a better agent until after the transfer windows has closed :(
