After queueing for about 25 minutes and buying PES for £33 in Asda (rip off) I had high hopes because the demo seemed pretty decent compared to previous Pro Evo's.

Anyway, after about an hour of playing it I've decided the game is utter crap & it'll be getting returned in the morning.

Reasons:
- if you tap x to pass, the ball flies towards your player at 100mph (fake)
- lack of advantage rule
- considering the apparent '360 movement' it still feels like you can only go straight/diagonal
- players' first touches are absolutely terrible

I could probably list more but it's annoyed me so much at the moment it's unreal!

The only positives I can take out of it are that the shooting is pretty good as is the crossing from freekicks.

Apart from that FIFA wins again, hands down!

PES and FIFA do not have 360 MOVEMENT... it is 360 RUNNING, but it is not 360 DRIBBLING nor 360 MOVEMENT; this is why you can only run in different directions...

But there is a very clear difference between RUNNING with the ball in different directions and actually DRIBBLING with the ball in different directions, in PES and FIFA this fundamental difference is non-existent.

I'm disappointed with the fact that in year 2010 you still cannot do any DRIBBLING via the LEFT ANALOGUE STICK...

Though unfortunately, it is either PES11 or FIFA11, and both games have the very same underlying flaw: the left analogue stick functions like the d-pad, but a d-pad with more directions.

In other words, Konami and EA Sports are just adding details and details to a flawed and outdated concept, and they come up with phrases like: "engineered for freedom" or "personality+" to make it sound like something new when in fact it is very old.

Adding more directions to a flawed concept will not rectify the flaw, it will only hide the underlying flaw, it will never fix the underlying flaw; Konami and EA Sports should change how the left analogue stick works, they should make better use of the left analogue stick.

I'm assuming at some point in this thread I'll get called a FIFA fanboy or something along those lines.

But don't get me wrong, FIFA has a lot of faults of it's own - I'd be the first to admit that, but as far as Pro Evo's, I mean it's really really stupid things they have to fix. Nobody who has played the game can honestly say the passing is realistic? You tap the pass button and the ball just pings to your player.

Not to mention the fact Konami didn't do the summer transfers, what is that all about? I know you can download option files & what not...but it's October, transfer window finished the end of August - why can't they do it for release date?

At my ASDA where I bought the game there was only about 30 people queueing for it, whereas last week with FIFA there was nearer 400...I think that just about sums PES up for now

I just found the whole thing very sluggish, it's clearly an improvement over last year but it's a long way from being right. The shooting is just way too powerful aswell in general, add to that the keepers parrying every shot and you know that you're going to crack at some point in time and say, right! enough of that...

Maybe the long 25 min waiting and being ripped off made you less likely to enjoy anything at all :)
Sleep on it. Try it again tomorrow.

The whole gameplay just isn't as user friendly as FIFA though and overall FIFA is just more complete at the moment but it's a good improvement from Konami

Pes is not evolving into fifa. It implemented some features from fifa, but that's because it needed to, but in the end, they're still different.
And I cannot agree that ffia wins HANDS DOWN. No way. It may win in the end, (because fifa feels more complete) but not hands down.
The AI and everything that surrounds the AI in fifa 11 is totally horrific and stupid.
And the passing sucks. It AI CONTROLLED. EVEN ON MANUAL. The AI decides if you're gonna miss that pass no matter how accurate you press the stick.
Fifa 11 is a good game, but has game breaking moments.
It's like metallic paint covering cracks, but I can still see the cracks. And yes, the AI is worse than Fifa 10.

I never said at any point FIFA was perfect, in fact I've just turned it off because it's doing my head in. Online every player you come up against goes straight for Real Madrid even though my default team is 3.5 star Rangers.

But if I compared it overall to PES, then it definitely wins hands down in my opinion. In saying that, FIFA 11 is far too similar to FIFA 10 which makes me think EA were complacent this year and didn't really break a sweat when making it because they know how bad PES is likely to be - however - since PES has improved a lot since last time, I'm hoping EA will make drastic improvements to FIFA 12 next year.

he is a troll , he have not even played pes , let alone buy .. LoLz

Get back to bed kid, you have school in the morning...oh and learn how to spell while you're there. Bellend

An hour?

You gave it an hour?

Hell, I usually give most football games at least a day or so. Especially this year with the new passing and control mechanics never mind the rest of the game. If you want a pickup and play football game go get a copy of UAE and play SWOS.

I'd certainly have given it longer than an hour before coming to any sort of decision. Most of the reviews have stated as much in that they didn't like it at first and after they had played it for a few hours and got used to the mechanics they completely changed their view.

Anyway good luck with FIFA.

..tell me about it Psychobudgie.
I remember hating Pes2010 myself like hell for about a month or so.. pretty much I deemed it as unplayable crap.
Then finally gave it more tries and slowly realized that in fact Pes2010 was great and I'd been dumb and just lacking skills.
Happy ending.

i think thats the difference here between the both, FIFA you can almost pick up first time and be good, theres no learning curve with it, all of a sudden your a world class footballer against crap AI. PES you need to master yes it may have some flaws but its when you learn the skills you feel achievement.

...and you still cant be that feeling of your first goal , FIFA has no feeling sorry!

I think thats the key to it: PES is difficult. FIFA is easy. Why? because EA want as many people as possible to buy their game, that's their primary goal. You may say Konami have the same goal too, but you can defenately tell that the PES Production team want to make a great footie game above all else. It is a bit hardcore this year (thank Cruyff for that), but thats a good thing.

Try to release the sprint button when you're trapping a ball, this is a common mistake a lot of players are making. Withough sprint button the players control the ball more.
