now does this only happens when playing vs the cheating AI/ CPU or does it also happen when you play against another person on or offline!

I think it happens in all situations. Its very annoying at first, but I guess in the long run (no pun intended) it makes the game a bit more challenging and balanced, especially online where people would just use Messi, Ronaldo etc to run past your entire defence without any skill.

I do think this could be tweaked a little, my speedy wingers online are being caught up by the default ML players like Valeny...

I've got no problem with defenders closing me down, but if you going to do it please add some realistic variables to the simulation.

What bothers me most is that these rapid accelerating AI always win the ball so cleanly. GIVE ME A BREAK! How many times have you seen a player breakaway from the defence only to be taken out by a chasing defender, grabbing hold of his shirt or shoulders?

It's the most controversial call a ref can make in football and Pes have clearly dodged it.

I'm telling u, at first I was frustrated when slow ass defenders would catch up to me while using Pato...but my trick is let them get close, then do the L2+R3 and diagonal to flick the ball and run rather than just pushing the ball (R1 R2) .. always puts me clear and even in a good position to smash the hell out of the ball

This is basically how it works in real life and is what some people here are missing. In real life players like Walcott, Lennon and even Messi and Pato don't run full speed at a defender and carry on running past them like they're not even there, they always get close and dribble with the ball as close to their feet as possible waiting for an opportunity to wrong-foot the defender and pounce and break free, this game has nailed this aspect of football imo.

In regards to being clear through and being caught easily, first of all players like Walcott and Lennon don't and can't run through the middle because there's not enough space but they have it in them to take on a man or two on the flanks and whip in a cross or cut inside for a low cross or shot. However Messi's a different sort of player than these two, he thrives in both the flanks and through the middle not just because of his blistering pace but because of his ability to show defenders his back more than the ball so a lot of turns and swivels are necessary to really break free and do something with the ball.

But overall delivery is essential. If the quick players aren't getting good balls that they can run and catch before the defender does then the defender has a better chance of catching the attacker, just like in real life.

EGGGZAKTLY!;)
Yes, this game is hard for sprint-whores- you know those who abuse R1 all the time. You CAN get away with the above method if you have 20 yards of free space to run into, but u cant if you dont - and thats football!

We just got the game in the States yesterday. I only got play once before I had other stuff to do.

But yeah, I was extremely frustrated Bale and Lennon were unable to run away from anyone, even if they started ahead of the defender. The best I was able to do with those two was stay just a step ahead of the defender and get a cross off with him right on my back.

This is one of the things I am going to try and balance out in my option file.

For those who haven't used or heard of my files, I edit all of the players in the game to make the game play more realistic.

One of the things I always try to do is make fast forwards stay ahead of slow defenders. This doesnt mean that they can just run past defenders, but if they are played through and are quick enough, they will stay ahead. This works both ways though, so the opposition will also be better at attacking you.

I will also be changing the game to make the opposition pass the ball around better and attack better. At the minute, even on top player, I get nearly all the possession, this shouldnt be the case and games against even weaker opposition should result in them being moderately difficult to beat.

i dont mean its not right that you cant just run past someone and stay ahead, i mean when youve been put through by a team mate, starting 2-3 yards ahead of defender and still being caught up! you shouldnt need to do a L2 R3 or whatever it is trick as if a players quicker they should be able to keep ahead.

i dont mean just people like walcott but also virtually any player against jamie carragher and so on

Thats what I am on about. A fast players 3 yards ahead of a slow player shouldnt be caught. Its something that Konami do to keep the score line down, but there is better ways to do that

Im not having ago at you, but could you name one way in which they could do that without causing some people to moan about it ? anything they would/could do would always upset some people in the PES community, I'd imagine this is the best solution they could come up with to keep the scorelines low after probably trying a fair few ideas.

By improving the AI of the opposition more intelligent and aggresive. I have done it before and will hopefully do it again this year.

Make the opposition AI better and they wil keep the ball for more of the game and defend and cover better.

the long dribble kinda works, sometimes but the defender still catched up to your player so if you dont do it perfect you will still lose the ball. Its like the defender has a magnet that goes to the ball all the time LOL! I could live with this annoying issue, the game is too good in so many other ways!

this is good for most players but if its like lennon or walcott vs alex terry who are slow n terry or alex easily catch up its bullshit!

Just been playing an online match and fell victim to this unfortunately. It's not necessarily just speed, but most attributes seemingly. He chose Manchester United (of course) and I picked Everton as they're an average team with one or two nice individuals. Anyway, when Carrick can outpace and muscle Yakubu off the ball, you know something is wrong. Not to mention Phil Neville outpacing Anderson. I understand players should run slightly slower when they're in possession of the ball, but we all know that this flaw takes it too far.

There's something about Konami that they have to include something in the game that will infuriate the fans. On PES2009 and PES2010 attacking players had a 'force field' where they could hold off 4 players sometimes! Yet on PES2011 you have players being beaten for pace by gimps like the nevilles!

A hundred lines Konami! "We will learn to get the balance right" ...
