How to defend high through ball passes?

Anyone know a way to defend cowards that only play this way? It doesn't matter where they're on the field, they just through ball it in the air and their super fast striker always get to the ball and goes 1v1 against my keeper. I hate that I can't defend it and it ruins an otherwise great mlo, any help would be appreciated.

It's annoying me so much. I play a lot of MLO and like to pass it around and build attacks. I like to put some good moves together to try and score. Most people just ping through balls through from anywhere not just in the air but on the ground aswell. Recently almost every through ball against me has been getting through and it's bugging the hell out of me. I don't concede any other goals apart from spammed through ball.

That means you're really bad in defending. But you also can't compete with poor defenders against medium forwards.

If you're so good, why don't you show us how to defend it? They don't just do it once, that's the only thing they do. And they always have strikers with speeds of 90.

You need a deep defensive line if you're playing against a fast forward line. You might also want to consider having a 3rd centreback much higher up the pitch along with two, ostensibly, defensive midfielders. You also want to abandon playing offside. Use Square to pressure the opponent with AI controlled players, but only when they are in your half of the pitch and only when your midfield is behind the ball. You'll also want to control a player off the ball to anticipate a through ball, even if it means playing him onside. The best through balls will always dissect you, there is nothing you can do but if you want to stop the one trick ponies, park the bus. Most will struggle to break you down when Plan A fails.

Try flicking the right stick towards your last defender and keep pressing X or Square while chasing the ball. It has worked for me, the right stick also works to change between defenders and it seems to choose your sweepers better because L1 only switches around the nearest defender to the ball. I still have trouble stopping Benzema, CR7 and Kun Aguero. These players are just almost impossible to catch up to. Try it out and little by little you'll learn how to be good at it.

Hi superkev

I ve not played any online matches, but played some games with my
friends at home.

Have the same experiece as you had, by judging your situation, IMO there no garanteed solution to intercept, stop loft or low through balls, if your online opponent keeps bombing through balls to your half, once
you win the ball back, you can revenge by delivering through balled pass to his half non-stop to make things squar and fair with good tactics and better players of course, thats the way how I see it anyway.

good luck to your games

Well, i´m not an expert or something but having offside tactic ON by showing the X on screen gives the opponent an idea that I´m waiting for it + on what Vieillard suggested. It doesn´t work always thou but it helps a little bit.

Pressure the soon to pass player with square just as he is to hit the lobbed pass, while taking and choosing one of your central defenders (either by L1 or right stick) and taking them back to collect the through ball.

Anticipation is the skill u need to develop. Its easy as most throughballers are very easy to predict. U just need to learn the execution I talked in the above paragraph, its not easy though to get it just by reading, if I could show u it would be better, dont thing its possible though :)

Thanks for the tips guys. I have started using the "standard" style of play and have set my D Line to 0, I have faced a couple lob pass abuser and have shut them down for the most part. I have also signed some good defenders and a better goalie. I probably still wouldn't be able to stop abusers with someone like Aguero, but it is what it is for now.

So far, I only played with one guy as you said who can perform this pretty well, and he has 900 points in ranking section. He is quite a pleasure to play with considering all the players of this rank are heavy spammers.

The thing that really sucks about it is that even if we all get as good as possible at defending this, the game is still ruined because our formations might not be what they would be if we didn't have to worry about having idiots for defenders (untrustworthy AI that needs to have its hand held all the time), and the people we are playing against (the spammers) are not playing realistically. It's lose-lose in my opinion, but yeah, I'm with all of you on this -- except the guy who says we don't know how to defend, he's obviously a spammer himself, ha ha.

Yeah this is my only gripe with PES13, the through ball glitch has made he game one dimensional.

I also play a intricate passing game and enjoy scoring well worked team goals or crackers from outside the box. But the through ball bad defending glitch has made 90% of people play one way, the same as the speed merchant winger glitch to square it to striker to score in pes12.

I can now defend pretty well against these abusers of the flaw, but it does spoil the game some what.

To defend against these players;

Go to your game plan and team settings and change your defensive line to 3/4 or 5

Get yourself a pacey back line. I have beria, perea, betrand and de jong.

Play with a DM with the anchor man and enforcer card

Then when defending, click your right stick onto your pacey CB and move him back towards goal while simultaneously holding square bringing your closest player to the opponent with the ball. Using this technique in most cases either the ball will get intercepted by the DM or your other CB, the opponent will get tackled as he is watching your CB run backwards or he will pass it through and your CB will be there to mop up.

While I'm just pressing the left dpad to initiate manual offside whenever their MF is free and ready to launch the lob thru pass. It's all about timing though.

For such an unskillful method of play to have so much effect is not balanced,if your spamming a ball through from your own half with power bar on full red and it to be so accurate is so unfair, pes could sort it easy,if someone spams on full power make the ball go out of play or give the defenders advantage, instead of making your AI defender do a twirl and make him forget he's playing football and not just having a picnic in midfield, I agree with your tactic for defending but to have to do that because AI cant read the game is poor for the game, I know thats what you have to do.
