News about PES 14

The latest issue of EDGE has been sent to subscribers and thankfully, some of them have shared the first information about Konami’s upcoming soccer title. The good news is that the game is based on the FOX Engine, however it is considered now as a new engine due to Konami’s tweaks and enhancements. The game will use a new physics engine and collisions will be better than ever. Konami is aiming for photo-realistic graphics, and the game is built on three pillars. You can view below the first details, as well as the pillars. Let’s hope that the company will unveil more in the next couple of days or weeks. Special thanks to ‘Thomas’ for sending them via email.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 First Details:

- Engine based on FOX Engine
- Engine referred to as “new engine”
- New physics engine uses “Barycentre physics”
- Barycentre physics: different body parts have different weights
- Collisions are similar to FIFA
- Impact strength of collisions depend on which part of the body is hit
- Team is focusing on “photo-realism” for graphics
- One closeup of a Japanese player’s face in EDGE shows detailed skin pores and individual eyebrows
- Shirts are separate from the player models
- Shirts hang from the players and flow and get pulled when jostling
- Ball control radius in 3x bigger than current gen, providing more dynamic off-ball tussles while player’s legs try to get control of the ball
- Can set a player’s “zones”
- This allows you to have an individual player only be allowed to move in a small area of the pitch while defending

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 – Three Pillars:

1. Barycentre Physics and Ball control

The new engine allows for a larger separation between player and ball – three time the radius of PES 2013, where tight ‘confrontation’ zones are used to make tackling easier. A striker will be able to throw his body weight in one direction and use his opposing foot to push the ball in the other way, leaving defenders off balance and buying space for a pass or shot. Players have specific centres of balance, calculated by locating their centre of gravity, or barycentre. You’ll be able to control your player’s weight shifts at all times and use practice touches to push the ball away from your feet. We see a wireframe demo with more natural animations and fluid transitions than FIFA 13. You control the player and the physics drives the animation, not vice versa. It’s hard to tell how this will transform the ‘feel’ of play, rather than just being admirable behind the scenes calculations, but there appears to be scope for a radical new control scheme – think of how Skate’s right-stick motions mimicked real-life movements by exploiting dynamic physics, and how they compared to the digital button taps of Tony Hawks Pro Skater. This could be a revelation in football game control.

2. Contact and Physicality

Konami has pinpointed this as a weakness in previous games, but now players can jostle for space – even without the ball present – for headers at corners, or to dominate a smaller opponent. You’ll be able to tug shirts (cloth is now separate from the player’s body and stretches) as well as elbow for room on the touchline. It works in tandem with the physics and precision control. Agile players can unbalance defenders with dropped shoulders or ball skills, and push the ball further ahead to exploit their acceleration. “Previously, body feints were more aesthetic,” admits Masuda. “Now they’re a key tactic.”

3. Squad Emulator

Formations remain essential for success, but now you can set ‘zones of play’ so your key players focus on certain tactics in mission-critical areas. For example, you can set your front line to focus on possession and probing for gaps in from of a deep-lying defence. In theory, you’ll be able to recognise your favourite teams pattern of play within a few minutes. The emphasis on defending and shape should allow weaker teams to create effective strategies, such as when Celtic beat Barcelona in the Champions League by defending deep, buoyed up by the home crowd.

Thanks for sharing bro....but where Konami is concerned, I will have to see it and feel it before i can even remotely start to believe it.

I like that they added that the collisions would be like Fifa. Seems like they plan to kinda clone the Fifa Franchise ...and quite frankly that is the only way they can survive at this point.

Promising great features each year has grown stale.....

peace

Yeh...the thing is Konami keeps on adding these features and they are great for offline play but even if one of these features can be exploited online while attacking/defending/passing ...Its about time when players online will exploit them...

In PES13 I have had many friends confess about how they feel guilty about using Van der mirch and spamming through balls to him...they weren't like this before but just because everyone else was doing it... they jumped on the bandwagon...

Whatever Konami does ,they have to finely polish and balance out online aspect of the game.

Agreed bro...

the link you provided above also discusses the inclusion of PES on the PS4.

"The third shows all the amazing power of rendering provided on PS4. If the levels are these will be 'really hard to distinguish the real football players from those recreated by developers Konami."

We will have to wait to see how they will use the new engine to improve the animations in they next release.

PS4 is rumored to be released winter of this year.

yeh with the new engine most of the elements would change...we would have to play the game on a new engine to figure them out...

Well, thank you for sharing this. But never trust Konami again unless you FEEL it with your hands.
Will they return the league mode is essential for me. No matter how good the game would be, if no league mode, no PES 2014 for me.

Sounds good now

1. Get a goalkeeper, one from the J-League, doesn't have to be Buffon and get him to do keeper animations. Can someone tell me WTF keepers look like they are jumping on a trampoline at times. You know that save where they jump and catch the ball so cleanly even though the shot was a 25 yard bullet, yeah that shit has to stop.
They need to have more animations for when a keeper gets lobbed. How many times have you see the one where the keeper is off his line and then makes that save. It looks good but when every keeper does the same thing identically it ruins it. Also has anyone noticed when you chip the keeper straight on, he will just jump in the air. In real life, the keeper wouldn't expect it and just remain stagnant before looking back as the ball nestles into the net.
Basically everything about goalkeepers is wrong in the game and this is a game breaker imo. Keepers should have individuality.
Also too much keepers are beaten far too easily, the ball goes through them once you get close enough. and if they save it they constantly make that save with their chest.

Allow pace matter. A player with 99 pace should be able to tear by anyone with below 85 pace. That's realistic. Artificially creating a slow pace game is not. Slow(er) players should have to rely on attributes(which are not in the game) to compensate.

Attributes-There needs to be more stats for defenders and goalkeepers. As far as I'm aware there is not TACKLING stat in PES(No tackling stat in a football game!)

It all sounds very pretty, but it's not addressing any of the real problems with the latest PES13.

I honestly couldn't give a toss about somebodies fucking eye brow detail whilst there is comically obvious, scripted AI, and broken heading. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks for the info but I won't be holding my breath. Maybe one day we will have a decent football game to play again.

It looks like PES2014/WE2014 will have the AFC CL, because next week (?) the AFC and Konami will tell us some informations.

I read this on some pages and on twitter.

More focus on Asian teams will be great. Hopefully we will get back a licensed Sotuh Korean team (even though using the data fix we were able to unlock 95 percent of those presets).

I will just say this giving us Asian clubs and only restricting their use to one mode a la Libertadores style will be a waste. Hopefully in '14 such things will be fixed.

The contact and physics upgrades should help fix the goalkeepers, just today I had Neuer drop a tame header across goal to the opposition and then make a fine diving save a few minutes later, just baffled me that he had no reaction to catch the blooming thing and not parry it, catching is still the main problem, most keepers are good shot stoppers in the game but very few can catch a shot or parry it down to catch it instead of to the opposition .

Just curious though if they are using the FOX engine for the game then Konami have it at an advanced stage, they are using it for the next Metal Gear Solid but they wouldn't release that if the engine wasn't up to scratch so I hope they don't risk Pes 14 with a poor engine like Pes 08.

This fox engine thing is bullshit, I don't think they should have mentioned anything till they show it properly. We have all see the fox engine, its amazing, pes will look nothing like this.

My idea is to set my expectations low, then I won't be disappointed. To be honest, I don't mind the graphics as they are, maybe some better animations would be more useful.

What I want to see:

- German League (Probably won't happen)
- Better animations
- better throw ins, specifically the screen blacks out and the players all move when someone takes a throw in, annoying when you have a team pinned back in their half close to their corner flag and it resets your players far away!
- Goalkeepers slow to get up off the floor when you want to counter.
- Don't think the offside rule is correct, been called offside so many times and the line shows that i'm not?!
- I don't want a banana when I'm not in ML
- Defenders often change direction when you select them when someone through balls you.
- keeper clearances are strange
- fouls in the box dont give enough penalties for me, I know this is maybe realistic but I have had bad challenges against me in the box and nothing given.

News about PES 14 physics and graphics are great. But I wonder how they will be able to create good looking not cheating AI with such complex physics. It looks like AI will cheat so hard that everyone will hate this game much more than PES 12 & 13.
