Elaborate on the deeper problems? Are you kidding me? Are you seriously completely unaware of them?

You like the videos and the pretty pictures and based on that alone you think the game looks "great". That's fine. I was merely pointing out that we've all been here before and been let down in the end.

If you were truly objective you would understand that.

;)

Like I said, I cant remember the last time I played PES 13 on a regular basis. I think I played it last November before making the switch.

Well the fancy pictures and the LOOK great. But for me personally, I'll reserve judgement till the demos where I can FEEL the gameplay. Im just really positive about the changes which they delivered SO FAR, as promised to us.

For me, its all about FEEL. Something which cannot be achieved by watching a video. But the progress of the game is pleasing.

Then you surely know fine well what the deeper problems with PES are so why ask me point them out to you?

This is exactly the sort of cautious optimism I was advocating. Going overboard about a couple of videos is daft at the best of times but doing it over and over again ever single year only to be left with Konami flavoured egg all over your face every single time is insanity.

I haven't been swayed by the videos or screenshots because graphics, face details and animations are the least of PES' problems at the moment IMO.

This game looks fantastic! Only thing im worried about is that through ball thing everyone does to ronaldo. If that doesnt work it will be perfect!

A quick tweak of the graphics, a few more animations, the through ball exploit fixed and PES will be "perfect"?

Ah well. At least someone is guaranteed to be happy with PES 2014.

Did you watch the 2nd gameplay trailer? The fox engine fixed up the CPU AI fantastically, as players were keeping possession and not doing anything stupid like trying to dribble the whole team. AI overall was brilliant, and the gameplay because of this will be pretty in-depth with deeper tactics needed for different teams. I imagine through balls to be more manual, and with a ball a seperate identity, speed abusers that use sprint with a speed merchant will be stopeed easily as dribbling is more loose and dependant on accuracy

I did notice the same thing with the AI team trying to build complex attacks.
However it seems to me dribbling is slowly becoming fifa like which I don't like. I don't want to use special controls to dribble, just normal movement with arrows.

Do you mean how slow players travel with the ball, or how pacey the ball can be whilst dribbling?

You got all that from a trailer? Really? A trailer depicting a game which is not yet completed and has been manufactured specifically to generate interest in the game?

Ever seen a movie trailer? They all look pretty amazing in the trailer dont they? Except when you actually watch the whole film they're really not that good.

The key word in your post is "imagine". That's all you're doing really, using your (pretty vivid) imagination based on a short trailer which in fact proves nothing where AI or tactics are concerned.

I'm not saying PES 14 will be crap but I've been burned too many times now to fall for the same old Konami PR campaign.

Either I'm very cynical or you're very gullible. Probably a bit of both to be fair.

;)

Well to be honest I only play PES online and apart from that bug, there is not a lot to complain about. My friends get together every friday night to play and have loads of fun so yeah actually... I would be happy!

I'm aware there are AI issues in single player but this does not affect me, think the last time I played the computer was PES 3 haha! I don't get the same sense of victory beating AI as a do human players.

I honestly could care less about the animations, I think ball weight etc are about right. But added extras I'm not going to complain about.

Hello all.

I just wanted to say something. Even though I was gone, I was still here in a way. Just absent from posting.

Anyway, about Pes 14. Well, to say the least, this is the first year that Konami really are making a noise especially amongst fans of the series. So that's a start.

The gameplay really does look better and so does the AI (got that from the 3 gameplay videos they've shown), but as I always say - "Judgement will be passed on the demo".

The problem with Pes (and even more so with Fifa) is the way the AI plays. I have been playing alot of games like SKyrim, The Witcher and so on and I noticed something huge. Those games are actually FUN. Something missing from the football industry.

I used to have some fun playing Pes 13, but the AI ruined it all. It seriously did. I was willing to play it even though the animation were horrible. But he AI just destroyed that.

I won't go into Fifa because the AI there is even worse and way more annoying.

So, I won't get my hopes up or down just yet for Pes 14, because even though it looks pretty, plays smoothly and is beautiful to look at, the AI will still be a deciding factor in the end and so far, even though it looks improved, I still need to test it out myself.

I won't even bother with Fifa anymore. The game's problems are too fundamentally deep. Sorry, but they are.

I'm really impressed with PES this year, the fox engine looks great as well as the animations! Finally got rid of the robotics!

I can't imagine what this game will look like come PES15 when it's on X1/PS4.

The "I'm alright Jack" approach. Fair enough! ;)

Out of interest though, dont you notice any AI issues when you're playing online? No player switching issues? No scripting where the CPU decides that your players stats have decreased to almost zero for no obvious reason? No clipping issues? No goalkeeper issues? No server issues? No lag? Basically nothing other than the through ball exploit annoys you?

I find that a bit weird seeing as it's the same code single player uses and in my own experience I have seen those same issues many times both online and in single player.

I do think that the enjoyment and banter of playing with friends can help gloss over a lot of problems in any game mind you so with that in mind I can understand why you're happy with the game.

I guess thats my general attitude, got a lot of hassle on the IGN forums about Xbox One because of my could care less attitude about always online but meh ha...

Yep player switching, not really noticed the player stats issue, clipping cant say ive really noticed, but maybe in replays not sure. Goalkeeping yes, far too slow to get up and kick it! Lag yes, but the problem with this is that you are playing some people with crap connections so this is random, one game I could be lagged to death and the next totally fine, not sure how much control they have over this?

One annoying thing that they said they had fixed was the screen going black when taking a throw in and it resets your players (annoying when pushing someone back in their own half, they can get out easy when your players reset to far away!), but then I saw it happen in gameplay 2014 demo! :(

So yeah now you mention it you are right about some things, but others I don't care. The main one is that through ball thing when I play someone online.

You know what I would like to see? People restricted to play as a team once every 5 plays online, this would stop Real Madrid and Barcelona being the opposition every time and introduce some variety.

When we play offline we do random, makes it fun, great if you are a crap team and beat Utd or something!

Totally agree with that one. Who wants to play online when 9 out of 10 people pick Barca or Real every single time? Add that to the through ball exploit and you have an experience which is dull, repetitive and absoultely nothing like real life football. Some sort of restriction or cool down period for those teams would be a big help.

Maybe a handicap system would help too? For example if you are rated much higher than the player you have been paired with you can only choose teams from a certain level?

I dont know mind you, while that seems fair to you and I it would probably put thousands of kids off playing the game altogether because they couldn't pick Real or Barca.

I spose Konami have to try to cater for everyone, no matter how irritating and childish they are.

About people playing with Real Madrid or Barca only... I think it's more the PES' gameplay that allows those teams to be exploited.

It's the same reason that Van Der Mirch or whatever that player is called gets to be so efficient. Not his skills and stats but the game that has exploitable flaws.
