EDIT: After going back to PES 2013 (Jan. 7th), PES 2016 feels cheap and arcade-like to a certain extent!

As much as I have hated this game at times, I had an absolutely brilliant time playing it last night (Master League). I'm playing as Olympique Lyonnais, and expected to get wasted by Bayern Munich (away) in the Champions League.

The settings that are working well for me are:

(Superstar/ -2 speed/ 12 minute matches)

Cursor- Semi-Assist
Pass Support Level- Level 1
Through Ball Type- Advanced
Shot Type- Manual

Camera- 'Vertical' (My favourite- great view of the on-pitch action.)

I didn't feel that the CPU was either helping or hindering me, it felt like a really fair and fluid match.

I played a few matches prior to that one and it all felt good last night- I'm third in the French league, and first in my Champions League group table. I think switching from manual to Level 1 for pass support has made the game a lot more enjoyable and fluid for me. I hope that it continues...

I just want to be fair with my postings, I have been highly critical of this year's version of the series, but last night I really did enjoy playing the game.

Interesting read, but how are the CPU shots? Are they still bottom corner?

I may try what you said on the other thread, uninstall and reinstall to see if it makes a difference.

You know what... I took the plunge and set up our Xbox 360 in the front room and started a Master League in PES 2013. Just from one game, I'm starting to have my doubts again about PES 2016. I know that I enjoyed PES 2013 when I last played it a couple of years ago, but I thought I was just being nostalgic about it.

As for CPU shots in PES 2016- same old goals I'm afraid. I played an ML game in PES 2013, then on straight after that in PES 2016... (both manual/no pass assistance this time.)

Passes seem to have more 'weight' to them in PES 2013 (and the ball sounds are much better), far more shot variety from the CPU, indeed the CPU scored a nice volley. I even prefer how they presented the Master League, it's more interesting. I was enjoying PES 2016 IN SPITE of its short-comings. As a game, it can be very fun to play, but PES 2013 feels much more like a simulation to me. The sound is better too, plus there are about 50 stadiums- and it was made before PES brought out MyCrap- so they still cared about the offline gamer! They stripped PES 2014 onwards, and it's less substantive overall today than it was with PES 2013. It has opened my eyes!

Right now, I'd say:

PES 2013 reminds me of a modern PES 5 (which is my all-time favourite PES iteration- but is pretty 'ancient' and 'basic' by today's standards),
PES 2016 reminds me of a modern PES 6, but with dodgy goalkeepers (at times) and 'Groundhog Day' goals from the CPU.

Sorry for chopping and changing so much, but by comparing the two games, I can see very clearly that PES 2016 is very much lacking where it comes to CPU AI. I was so desperate to enjoy PES 2016 that I got to the point where I was overlooking the crappy CPU goals and poor refereeing.

I think the Fox Engine is a bunch of hype (at least as far as PES is concerned)- they managed to 'break' PES from PES 2014 onwards (in my opinion). Jesus, they decimated it with PES 2008!

I prefer simulation play, PES 2016 feels so superficial (when compared to PES 2013) and is definitely easier to play (I don't in for exploiting CPU AI). I played 2016 on 'Superstar' (no assistance apart from cursor 'semi-assist'), and PES 2013 on 'Professional'- yep, Professional.

Again, sorry for being so 'schizophrenic' about PES 2016, I was perhaps just trying to 'polish a turd'. ; -)

I know I never trawled forums when I played PES 2013 (from when it was initially released)- this is the first year where I've spent more time reading about PES than actually playing it!! '-2' speed is perfect in PES 2013- nice and slow, I love it.

I think we all need a support group (like Alcoholics Anonymous)! ; -)

I hope not. :D But it is like some sort of enigma. I think we all see that PES has all the potential to become a fantastic game and I think we all want that, some of us really bad. We like it/we want to like it/we get disappointed/then we try again and again find something interesting and charming about it. Those low shots by CPU AI, absence of referee for most part, AI defending problems - it really hurts, so to speak. And it seems so obvious, if they could only fix this, it would be so much better... Then some of us wait for a patch and spend the whole year waiting, trying to enjoy, finding something really enjoyable, then again getting disappointed. At least in my case, I havent fully enjoyed PES 15, nor I am doing the same this year, but then again, there is something that keep me coming back, its probably the potential I see in this game, but those obvious flaws does not allow to fully enjoy it. Anyway, FIFA is not an alternative for me and in my opinion, PES is much and much closer to becoming a game that I would fully enjoy and trully love. So, again I remain with those naive and optimistic hopes that PES 17 will have most of above mentioned flaws fixed and in the mean time, I will like/dislike PES 16 at the same time. :D

After playing another game of PES 2013, it seems to me that Konami purposely screwed up the game from PES 2014- and I am not impressed with the much lauded Fox Engine- it's no excuse to botch the gameplay which was really good in PES 2013.

The cynic in me thinks that they use the Fox Engine redesign as an excuse to destroy what was a really good PES version. I think history is repeating itself. They did a similar thing when the brought out the pathetic PES 2008 version of the series. So now it will take so many years to get back to the standards of PES 2013! So on that basis, I reckon we'll have a really good version of PES with PES 2019!! Book the date in your diary! ; -)

Again, the cynic in me thinks that they know exactly what they are doing- they could have fixed the 'keeping, refereeing problems, and those ludicrous low shots with the December patch!

During the summer- they'll wheel out the Bhatti man- and he'll "apologise" for this, and that, and then promise that they have "learnt from their mistakes..." etc. etc.

I played the first league game in my PES 2013 Master League, and got hammered 4 goals to 0 (away). I played 15 minute halves, it was incredible, and all of the CPU's goals were different! I've only got it on 'Professional'/manual passing/shots. With PES 2016, I find 'Top Player' VERY easy to play (manual settings), and 'Superstar' isn't exactly difficult either. That's because the game is so badly coded this year, I used to play PES 5 on 'Professional'. That suits how I play (slow build-up/possession). I don't exploit the CPU AI, I just like a good simulation-type of play.

EA Sports destroyed FIFA 16 this year with the cumulative patches, it was a pretty decent game when it was first released. FIFA 15 was crap, and prior to this year, it was never a simulation. Going back to PES 2013 has really made me realise how football gaming has declined so much since PES 2014. PES 2013 craps all over PES 2016, and even when FIFA 16 was first released this year, it craps all over that too.

I'm playing as Atletico Madrid, as all of the La Liga grounds are in the game. I really cannot be arsed to mess with Premier League kits- I just want to play my bloody game! :D

$15 well spent- plus I have my old data packs already installed. It reminds me so much of PES 5. The crowd sounds are spectacular, and some classic chants are there that were on PES 5. As ever, this is just my opinion. I can't see myself buying PES 2017 if it's just a 'bug fix'- f--- that!!

I was also playing PES 2016 because there are some aspects to the game that are good, like how the players control the ball, but PES 2013 is even better in my view, it's not just done for 'showy graphics'. I'm trading it for the last time today- good riddance to PES 2016. I wish I could share your guarded optimism regarding PES 2017! :D

I'm playing 15 min matches/Super Star Level and well I got fed up!
I'm a great defender but it seems that every time they kick 1 out of 3 shots will go in or somehow one of their strikers will beat my defender (who's actually closer) to the ball, or they will get some lucky bounce, etc. The bad game scripting is a big turn off. I like scoring goals but I'm also a fan of keeping a clean-sheet, I take pride in that!

I could be winning 3-0 and out of nowhere they score two quick bloody goals...

PES 2016 = Making love to a chick, a FAT chick. It's not the best but it will do...for some desperate souls. On the other hand, ST. RANDY is a man of fine taste :D

I just downloaded the FIFA 16 Demo and I'm hooked!
As soon as the game starts you the outside of the Bernabeu, simply amazing!

It's not easier to score, the passing is not as crisp but the animations - oh dear!
It doesn't look cartoony, it looks 1000x better!

There's not much difference btw the game play to be honest.

The best thing I did was to trade it, and buy a cheap ($14) copy of PES 2013 (Xbox 360)! I played it originally when it was launched back in 2012, and really enjoyed playing it.

I played today and had a really good ding-dong battle in the penalty box, which resulted in my 'keeper eventually saving it. In PES 2016, the CPU would have scored- every time! It's pretty f***ed up that a game released over 3 years ago has MUCH BETTER CPU AI than the present game.

Whereas 'Top Player' is p*** easy on PES 2016, I'm playing on 'REGULAR' with PES 2013 (manual settings), and it's more satisfying than the poorly-coded PES 2016 Master League.

As for 'fat chicks', they're better than thin ones who are flat as pancakes! ; -)

Oh yeah, I thought FIFA 16 (PS4) was absolutely brilliant when it was first released... then EA Sports f***ed it up with their patches, see this thread:

There was another thread detailing how they've managed to make it pretty much into an arcade game, but it was removed! / -:

Seriously, PES 2013 is the closest I have played to a simulation- the Fox Engine redesign screwed up the game starting with PES 2014!

There are about 50 stadiums- the CPU AI is far more 'intelligent' and varied, the goalkeepers are TONS better- and the refereeing is better as well. I'm having a great time with the Master League (I'm playing as Atletico Madrid as all of the La Liga stadiums are there from the 2013/14 season). I don't even give a toss about the squads being totally out of date- the Master League is a fantasy league anyway really- it's fun playing against/with 'classic' squads!

My top two games, ever:

PES 2013 and FIFA 10

I remember the days when you could transfer rosters over (PES 11-13) I had over 250 LEGENDS. Currently, I have a nearly 80 but I'm afraid that I won't be able to transfer the rosters/created players over unto PES 2017! :(

Here's a FIFA question for you. Can you use the CLASSIC XI legends and incorporate them into your FUT along with the other "FUT LEGENDS"? Is there even a master league in FIFA? Will I be able to trade/acquire/select/play with both Classic XI legends and FUT Legends?

To be perfectly honest, I have no idea whatsoever, I only played the Career Mode (and the Women's tournament once). You'd be better off looking on the official FIFA forum...
