Master League (offline) Team Roles

Okay, so I don't see any other threads about this that I could post in to avoid starting a new one, so:

Okay, so I'm halfway through my 11th season with Nottingham Forest (I hate being unable to edit Man Utd's kit, so I always play with a different team than the Red Devils). I have three players on the roster who were part of the Forest team that achieved promotion in 2015-16. It is now the 2025-26 season, and I have gotten the following team roles over the course of those seasons (all games played, none simulated).

Youth Prospect
Protege
Leader
General
Star Player
Superstar
Maestro

I have yet to get a Grand Master, Bandiera, or Legend. Legend is probably the hardest, but I would have expected at least one Grand Master or Bandiera, seeing how Arcas, Coutinho, and Giorza have played with the club for ten straight seasons, and I have four maestros in my team. They're all getting good playing time, by the way, and all have been given nicknames by the fans.

Has anyone else gotten a Grand Master, Bandiera, or Legend? And by 'gotten', I mean actually had a player achieve one of them and not went out and bought someone who already was one. Or does anyone know what you have to do to get one of them? Is it all random? Are there any requirements?

Thanks.

Yes. I've had 2 players achieve 'Grand Master' status, not sure about Legend or Bandiera. As to how it happens.... I'm pretty sure it's just random. Renato Augusto gained it in my first season with Corinthians, and Felipe Anderson gained it after a couple of seasons with my Bolton team.

Thanks for the reply.

Funny, Arcas got maestro with Forest after about four games of the first season, and I was watching a guy on YouTube playing his Master League and getting it with another player after three or four games of the first season, so I'm thinking maybe that first one is a little bit scripted. Did either Augusto or Anderson have a team role before they got Grand Master?

But good to know that you got another one a few seasons later. I was wondering if the description had something to do with it ("A Grand Master has honed his skills at a top-level team. His maturity and technical ability makes him an inspiration to everyone around him") and so I was avoiding making rash tackles (maturity) and concentrating on getting the technical stats (dribbling, ball control, shooting, passing) of my players up as high as possible, but that doesn't seem to have made a difference.

You normally get a message when a player is close to gaining a new role, but I'm not sure exactly what triggers it. Just like player development boosts, it all seems random to me.

I don't know about Augusto, but Anderson was a Maestro when I signed him from Lazio. I'm pretty sure that some roles are related, so a player won't suddenly jump from no role --> Grand Master.

I was thinking it was progressive. I know my superstars started as star players. I'm thinking Grand Master starts as a maestro and a Grand Master maybe becomes a Bandiera. A superstar becomes a legend over time.

It's hard to know, but I hope to get a bandiera pretty soon. I could do with all income streams being boosted. I have a team right now that has a £193 million salary, and I'm just about managing to keep it together with annual sponsorship income, as well as the boosts from having four superstars, Lio Messi and Djene as Legends, and the extra income from home games because of that.

Wow 11 seasons in one ML! Nice going - the most i've managed is 8 seasons with one club before I get the 'itch' to start a fresh.

I've never achieved the status of Grand Master, Bandiera, or Legend with one of my own players. I think Ali has pretty much hit the nail on the head in terms of development progression levels and how the players are selected looks random. You may need to reach a certain overall rating (90+) to 'unlock' the status of Grand Master?? I think owning original GMs might help train your players into becoming GMs themselves but I cannot confirm this. I currently have 10 GMs in my squad (all purchased) and training my younger players so maybe time will tell?

Can I ask who's your highest overall rank player is that you've developed yourself. I've seen Lucas Moura reach 97OR in someone else's save but I've yet to develop a player past 95OR myself.

Ali - Who were the 2 players you developed into GMs?

Edit:

I've just seen this, my bad

Renato Augusto gained it in my first season with Corinthians, and Felipe Anderson gained it after a couple of seasons with my Bolton team.

OVR isn't relevant, as far as I can see. Augusto is 80OVR, Anderson was around 87OVR. Not sure about if they have an impact in creating more GMs, I haven't had one long enough to tell. Likewise, I'm not sure if the role's "level" has any relevance in their "promotion" (eg does a Maestro have to be lvl 3 before he becomes a GM)?

The whole thing is a load of bollocks anyway. Too RPG-y, it's a damn football game for crying out loud.

Most I've ever gotten in one Master League was 16 with Man Utd, back in the days of PES 6.

I have five players with an OVR of 90 and higher. The highest is a regenerated Antonio Di Natale at 101. That, however, is largely because I have Messi in my side, who as a Legend gives a clean 30% boost to training for people who play the same position as he is, but I also have a level 3 maestro CF in Lukaku, who boosts that training buff to an even 45% more efficient training for Antonio. The result is a 24-year-old 101-rated centre forward who has 99 in attacking prowess, ball control, dribbling, finishing, place kicking, speed, and explosive power. I play on Superstar and he is INSANE. Last season, he scored 100 goals in all competitions, playing 57 games.

I have a 99 OVR regenerated Francesco Totti, a 99 OVR centre midfielder Cedric Barbosa, who's getting a 25% training boost from my level 3 attacking midfield maestro Arcas, a 95 OVR attacking midfielder Mathieu Valbuena (regen) who's getting the same buff, and a 92 rated regenerated Rafael Marquez, who's getting a 40% training buff from the Legend Djene and a level 3 maestro centre back Inigo Martinez.

Haha yea, as always Konami leave us high and dry!

Insane indeed! I would like to see a screenshot of his stats when you get chance (not because I don't believe you) just to see the awesomeness in front of me! I know that regens develop very quickly, I had Ricardo Quaresma in my old save and he was 19/20 yrs old with a 88/89 OR when I started a new ML.

I have Gerrard in my ML in Bilbao and he is considered a legend.

How do you mean "considered a legend".

I know he's considered a legend for Liverpool, but is he actually a legend with your team? That is to say, has he received the legend team role?

Yes he did and I got special bonus when he plays I think (I might sell him tho, he is getting old and I can profit with selling him for 20million).

But did he become a legend with your team, or did you buy him from another team when he already was a legend with them?

Sorry, just trying to figure out some things about team roles.

Don't sell him. He gives all the players on your team an experience boost (not sure what percentage, but it's definitely a boost to all players) in training, as well as anyone who plays in midfield gets a flat 30% to their training.

Never try to figure out how Konami's logic works....

LOL.

Too true, mate.

What a BEAST! Brilliant! Great to see all those red 99s, it gives me hope I can develop my own 100+ OR rated player one day.

It can be done, but you probably need at least a maestro to boost the training efficiency. Level 3 would be ideal. That, or a grand master/legend who plays the same position as the player you want to develop.

The only problem now with having those players (I have one 100, four 90s, and about five mid-to-high 80s) is that my team salary is verging on ridiculous. Di Natale is getting paid 11 million already, and he's going to want a new contract in January of my current season, which is likely going to be a 3 mil raise at least. My sponsorship income, with all the legends and superstars I have, is around 100 million a year. What it's doing is forcing me to play Djene in every home match, even though he's pants, because of merchandise sales.

Does anyone know what happens when you run out of money on this year's PES? I heard someone say there was no bankruptcy, but then what happens if you can't pay wages? Is a superstar team in Master League Offline even sustainable beyond a few seasons?

The game does allow you to go into dept. I've done it before, after the wage is deducted at the end of the transfer window (which is fucking daft), but have always managed to recover by the next window. The commentators make a comment about you being in "substantial debt", even if you're only in the red by a few grand . As a Bolton fan, I'm very familiar with being in debt. :erm:

I remember when Bolton used to be doing okay-to-better in the Premier League. Now, they're going down to League 1 to join the likes of Wigan and Portsmouth, who were decent Prem sides in their day as well. Very sad.

Good to know that you can go into the red and still keep playing, but do you know what happens if you don't manage to recover by the next time you have to pay the wages?

I'd hate all this building of a team to go down the drain and I'd start losing the players I spent years developing.

Well Wigan are going straight back up to the Championship, so hopefully the same will happen to us.

No, I don't know what happens, though I'd imagine that it'd stop you from signing players.
