How long can PES keep surviving?

Fifa 17 sold in the first week in the UK over 1.1 million(!!!) units while PES hardly couldn't hit 50k!!

Fifa keeps rising while PES imo is dying!??

Now with even the loss of the Champions League license it getting worse to me.

Honestly? Do you think that PES can last forever?? Me personally don't think so.

No hating please.

PES can only survive if the developers actually start working on new things and, most important, if they start LISTENING TO THE FANS! If they knew what we wanted and they made an effort to bring that into the game, how could the game not sell? It's not some new scanned player faces, squad updates and a few legend players that make a game sell. They already have a good gameplay, after fixing some issues on it (handball fouls, penalties, etc.) they could focus on improving the editing, team list (seriously, what was the last PES that bring us a new league?), offline game modes and other little things that make the difference.

That is the problem! Do they actually listen to the fans?? I hear often that people scream for new leagues so they can edit.. but where are they?? It shouldn't be that difficult right??

Where PES is lucky is imo that there are PES countrys like Greece, Turkey,.. and many other Asian countrys where are alot PES players.

But honestly.. in my family/friends network almost NOBODY plays pes and not anyone asks if i have the latest pes.. on the contrary to fifa! Everybody asks if i bought the latest one!

Yeah, Konami could add more leagues for edit. Or even add the leagues from those countries like Greece or Turkey, they would sell more.

I understand that . I am from Portugal, and all my friends here like to play FIFA. However, they were complaining about it, saying that FIFA 18 isn't good, that the gameplay isn't good, etc. I told them to try out PES 2018 and they say they didn't like PES, that they tried PES 2014-15 and they didn't like it... PES has changed a lot since then, and it would be good they could give it another chance. This shows that Konami has lost a lot of fans with PES 2014. If they weren't ready to release a new game, then they shouldn't do so.

In fact, an idea that came across my mind was that Konami could release a PES game not every year, but every 2-3 years. This would generate more hype for every new game and it would allow them to have more time to improve the game. Maybe it would sell more.

Yes man! Turkey is a real pes country! Same as Greece and many other countrys in Asia. Maybe it's not a bad idea to add there league?? So by this a shootout to Konami??

Actually when people hear i play pes they look weird to me! It's all about fifa here!

Yes there are alot complaining about fifa 18 and i agree: the ai sucks which is often deadly! Two teammates bounce vs each other.. they fall, the opponnent takes the ball and counters! The f*cking ref that's regularly in the way! Too many easy shots that misses or hit the goal.. so many things but still like pes is fun fifa online is fun too! The level is so high man that's why alot of people begin to hate fifa because they get there *ss kicked!!

I only play online divisions and don't touch anything else in fifa but what is a nightmare is that 7/10 of the games i play, it's vs Real or Barca!!

Btw: yes they should try PES 2018 and not 2014!!

I think it would be wise of them to focus on markets that EA neglects to try to completely squeeze it out from there (Asia, South America, Eastern Europe). If they can use the money saved on UEFA licences to score even more licences in those areas, exclusive if possible, PES can get much more of the market share. It probably won't be hard to get licences in Hong Kong, China, Middle East. More Brazilian leagues and legends (especially the ones who are true legends in Brazil like Rogeriu Ceni and Petkovic), Uruguay, Ecuador, etc. I am sure people in those countries will then forget that FIFA exists. In Russia, gamers have always had a strong preference for PES, but it not having the RPL forces people to get FIFA.

There are many other places where they could score too - Greece, Israel, Romania, Czech Republic, Turkey. I think leagues like Austrian Bundesliga, Scottish Premier, Ekstraklasa will not be too demanding about the licencing. FIFA neglects Belgium too (no 1st division B even though it's only 8 teams, no stadiums). That's a really good league to focus on. It's not spoiled by the moneybags, yet is good quality and very competitive. Why can't Konami make a partnership with Anderlecht? Get Constant Vanden Stock in the game, there are many Anderlecht legends that can be added too. Very good league, at least as good as Netherlands, but Konami doesn't have it.

Let EA have all that glamours stuff like England and Germany (even though that one really went downhill lately). It got 4 an 3 divisions respectively, tons of stadiums, broadcasting package, all the faces, etc. It's useless to compete there. And very expensive. Come and confiscate the markets EA takes a crap on. It treats the smaller leagues very poorly - awful ratings, no face scans, no stadiums or lower division teams. Konami should take advantage of this. And ofcourse make the editing part even better. I am sure there is alot more to it, but I think these moves would help greatly.

Thank you for the nice reply!

I agree fully with what you said! With the loss of the very expensive exclusive cl license normally they have more budget to invest in other things what ea don't have! Turkish, Russian, Chinese, Cezh league etc etc.. those are PES countrys! I don't say that anybody plays fifa there but still the majority is PES fan. I know! If konami is a bit smart they should do it for their own safety and not try to 'race' vs fifa because that's getting slaughtered! Loosing the war before it begins!

So now with the extra budget maybe we can get more exclusive stadiums like the one of Braga(Portugal), maybe some of the ones of the upcoming world cup in russia and many others? And the ones we have to have more details like the barca logo in the grass which isn't there in the game? Fifa does have it i think but i'm not sure even when they don't have barca licensed!

Konami be smart!!!!

Thanks for bringing up such an important topic! PES is a very good game. This is my first one that I played and I don't see myself buying another FIFA in the upcoming years, especially since EA ruined the world cup. Based on my own experience I can see PES making it if they make wise moves.

I wonder if there is a reliable way for us to communicate our views and suggestions to Konami. It seems to care about the players much more so than EA.

Honestly i'll keep playing fifa only for online divisions! Nothing else! You know man connecting to an online game takes seconds with fifa while at pes at least 1 minute! That's the only reason i don't play pes online but i'll keep buying pes too. The early crosses and all-round passing is much better with pes! You can cross from anywhere which is deadly!

I haven't tried the online portion of PES yet, but intend to eventually. Do you play on playstation?

My biggest issue with the fifa online is that everyone uses those same teams like you mentioned, and I don't really like to use them, so I am limited to Portu, Sevilla, Benfica, Liverpool and a couple other teams to stand a chance and then still I am disadvantaged. But also many people continue to play fifas even after the new ones come out. Like i played fifa 13 all the way until 2016 and always easily found opponents. And I really don't like how they removed a bunch of modes. In fifa 13 you could just play unranked games with a bunch of your friends on your team against others just for fun, but they took it away.

Hi,

Yes i play on ps4. If you want you can add me that we maybe can play pes and fifa vs each other?? Psn: ZidaneJuve11

But listen.. in fifa you play vs teams with the same level so when you pick ac milan it's almost impossible they match you vs Real. One time it happened to me but maybe they couldn't find another player??

Mostly i pick bayern but man.. i play constantly vs real and barca! It's f*cked up! It's so easy to play with the best right?? Just keep shooting and you'll score!!?? Or when you have a corner just pass to cr7 and he will head it in!

Yeah they disabled unranked. Idk why?

Ok cool I will add you but idk if I will be able to play soon because i don't have psplus yet.

Yeah if you are lucky you can get someone with a similar rating, but it goes by stars. They match all the 4.5 and 5 star teams together, so usually if you use Milan you will still get setup against Real and Bayern, etc. Unless Milan has 4 stars (it did at some point), idk how it is now. And if you choose teams with 3 or 4 stars that's when it can be hard to find connection. I remember I played fifa 17 at my friend's house as a guest with him on his online divisions and he used always MU because of Ibrahimovic:D and all we got as opponents was Real, Barca, Juve, Bayern, other MU and occasional PSG. Not even Atletico! It got kinda boring for me.

On fifa 13 though the Brazilian clubs were awesome (all the big ones fully licenced and rated well) and many Brazilians played fifa then, so we could always use those teams and find opponents easily. And Ronaldinho was there! And many other epic players. Lots of fun!

Do you know if the patches we have in PES apply when playing online too? Or is it just the whatever squads they have in the live update?

Yes the latest data pack influence when you play online too: corrected faces, new national team kits, new boots.. but idk nothing if there are some changes in gameplay or fouls etc?

Good Conversation piece Zidane ..big ups.

PES will continue to entertain a few, but its fan base continues to dwindle year after year. Their lack of commitment is evident to most of the fans here. Its no secret that Konami does not look at PES as their main franchise.

Sup Phillips? Good to see you on the boards with some solid points.
Konami recoups their expenses and make a small profit every year from PES ..with very little addition to the base of the game (outside of graphics). With this in mind, they remain profitable from PES although the budget does not compare to EAs. Why change that now?

Thank you for the nice reply!

I have been a supporter of PES for decades. I joined this wonderful site in 2004 that shows remarkable support for the franchise. I have seem the downward spiral of PES. I have seen the rise of Fifa of which I am now a stalwart supporter. Most PES fans are missing some crucial reasons why Fifa dominates PES every single year without fail.

Licenses? Nope! Although it helps not having to purchase a game and then hunt for Option files all over the damn internet...its the Squad updates on day 1. It is the continuous support from EA from day 1. Even if the patches are not favorable to some, they try to fix shit.

Gameplay? PES has prehistoric gameplay! The reason I left PES was because they have failed miserable to implement 360 movement in PES. The ancient game engine (Foxshit) has not been upgraded in over a decade. That engine was built for MSG not for PES.

ONLINE? YES. THE MAIN REASON FIFA DOMINATES PES IS BASICALLY ONLINE. Online is near to non-existence for most who play PES. Flawless in Fifa. Coupled with improvement in the collision system, upgrade in passing and shooting mechanics, butter smooth technical gameplay (makes PES gameplay look like minecraft) and a ton load of game modes both offline and online.

These are the basic reasons. PES is only playable offline with a very simple gameplay that most of its fans live and die by. Lob the ball into the box from wing attacks/lofted through balls/ and your chances of scoring increases 75%. No one even plays the ball back. Not so in Fifa.

Is PES dying? Its been dead!

Konami needs to have some ambition. They need to think about the future. If they only make little changes and don't think of changing and improving the game, the fans will eventually get tired of the game (and change to FIFA, like you did) and this "small profit" would disappear. And when that happens, bye bye PES.

Besides, there are many improvements they could make that doesn't cost much money. Those would not only generate confidence in the PES fanbase but also maybe attract some new fans ;)

Is PES dying? Its been dead!

Not dead yet. Konami already got burned by PES 2014 (dumb move), they now need to make something big to rise from the ashes like a phoenix. PES 2017 and 2018 were positive in my opinion, but they still need to work a lot in order to survive.

My PSN Id is bitwarmonger.

The 360 degree player movement allows the player to move in a full circle on the pitch without issues. This is evident in Fifa on how fluid the animation is. PES players can only move in 16 directions. Therefore I end up with extremely sharp turns and weird animations. Todate PES can be played using the Dpad.

I am quite surprised that no one else notices this.

PES high res video. Look at the turns and animations in collisions.

PES might have ''pre historic'' gameplay in that aspect but it isn't entirely bad. Btw, dinosaurs are also pre historic and many people think they are cool, so, ancient doesn't necessarily mean bad

I live in Canada and Pro Evolution Soccer here isn't popular at all. I bought PES 2017 at EB games at a city mall (Mississauga) and they only had 3 copies of the game on the release date. The following year for PES 2018 they only had one copy at the same Eb games. The demand and supply for PES is so low that literally my Eb games just gets it for me.

the fanbase for PES here is almost nonexistent. People here are all about the EA FIFA even if they don't follow the sport.

What can Konami do to overtake EA's FIFA? nothing, they can't!
Although they can start by:
*Adding a fake league that mirrors MLS
*Reintroduce Canada's National football team (Last appearance PES 2013) and more North American national teams.
*Commercials of PES on TV (They could have done this during Champions League and Europa League when konami had the license.)
