I'm not sure what you're talking about, but it might be the game design. The game does force you to a lot of manual defending, especially with covering. I recommend combining a lot of manual pressing and teammate pressing.

I'm not sure about the cursor change feeling different, but taking pieces isn't that difficult. It just takes some practice to learn how the ball moves and it's more realistic. In real life, you don't have ball trajectory to help you.
