The game itself tells you that speed is hard to improve as is an innate (excuse my english) attribute. I checked that by skipping a full season and speed improves, but so so slow... If you just started BAL mode, maybe you will want to restart with an already fast player.

I'm afraid you can't...I started a League with my brother (1 team each) and we can't select the COM team when one of our teams has a match. I assume Konami doesn't want us to cheat (lol...) but it sucks because I don't really like to see how the other player can only watch the match.
