740p or 1080i?

I'm currently playing PES 2009 at 1080i on my 26inch LCD TV with an HDMI lead.

I sometimes get some strange flickering on screen from corners and freekicks, where the players go all pixalated?

Is it best to play it on 1080i or 720p? Anyone any ideas? Which gives best picture?

I'll recommend 720p.

since your screen is only 26inch, you won't even see that much of a difference between 720p and 1080i or 1080p. And since you get flickering on 1080i setting, I'll recommend you using 720p.

I would look at the cable or the connection rather than the settings, as I use a Sony Bravia 26" LCD most of the time set to 1080i and don't have any problems at all. Pickup a new cable if the connection is good on the back of the TV.

Hope this helps

Cheers Guys. I'll give it a go on 720p.

The picture seems good on both, it's just I wondered which setting was meant to be best. The HDMI cable is brand new so can't see flickering being down to that. It also flickered when I used the component cable, just not as much. Maybe it's the TV? It only happens a couple of times a game so not too bad.

As stated before use 720p. I don't think it has 100hz scanning which would have helped get rid of the flickering.

No, def doesn't have 100hz scanning. 720p it is then. I've heard that this setting gives a smoother picture on moving images anyway. Just used 1080i due to it being a higher number so thought it'd be clearer picture.

Thanks for your help.

I have a 37ich HDTV and the resolution (native) is 1366*768 but I play at 1080P on Component. I didn't notice any difference between 1080P and 720P but on 1080i in pes 08, I used get a messed up picture.

Tried PES 2009 at 740p rate and it seems to have sorted the problem of flickering pixels on the players out :)

Thanks for all the advice guys ;)

It seems to have made me play better too! I've finally beaten Chelsea in the Champions League to make it through to the Quarter Finals with AC Milan :w00t This is my fourth go at the competition and so far I've been knocked out every time I've met a big club ie- Chelsea, Man U, Barcelona etc. Not this time though, a 4-2 agg win :D

I have an LG 37inch 1080p TV...

But i paid £45 for a HD Cable thats is just a metre long.. And the picture is mint.

Cables range to a £100+ and they DO make a difference..

So go to somewhere like currys / comet etc and ask for some advice. Tell them your make / model and requirements and they will tell you exactly what you need.

Hope This Helps

You dont need to spend £45 on a HDMI cable. I bought one for under £10 and its fine. There's no difference in the signal.

In cable durability maybe but in picture quality no. HDMI is digital so it either works or it doesn't. Over short distances (under 5m) every cable will work and look the same unless defective. Once you go over 5m you'll need better quality cables to maintain the signal over long distances. Monster cables are a big nono even in that situation. There are much better alternatives like monoprice.com

In the future when buying electronics never listen to store employees. Their sole purpose is to rip you off. Read some expert opinions on forums if you don't know anyone knowledgeable.

I have 3 types of HDMI cable connected to my tv which cost £60, £30 & £10. Differences aren't noticeable. You pay for build quality & length.
