about passing the ball

I already played some games in ML and BAL mode on professional and super star level.

I noticed often I cant pass the ball to my target teammate, the direction (L) is right, the passing power is right, but the ball falls into opposition's feet or the ball goes to my other teammate who i dont want to pass to, usually AI will launch a counter afterwards and score its so annoying. A lot of times when passing to my teammate, there is always a opponent AI standing in the way and u can pass the ball to nowhere else but to AI, its just horrorble.

If my teammate who i want to pass to standing between myself and another player, i just pass the ball to that another player in stead of my
intended target teammate who stands in between, what the hell?

I need help for making accurate passes. Does anyone else have the same problem or in similar situations? How do you guys deliver good passes? PLS.... reply.

Check your team instructions for your tactics, in preset tactics. I can't remember the the name of the option(think its attacking style, maybe not) but it has two choices, Counter attack or Possession. It could be on counter attack. If it is, set it to possesssion to make your players find space to receive a pass. Also set your support range to get your players closer to you.

Also, try to find space when on the ball or receiving it by sprinting into space and drawing the opposition players out of position to make space for your players.

Thanks a lot for your tips, i ll check team instructions and set possession to see how that works, and will try making more space for my players buy using the methods you mentioned above.

Well, set possession and support range basiclly make passing much better,
thanks again rat monky.

But I think passing still has some problems, it feels like on a rail, sometimes
I cant pass the ball to my intended player and AI can intercept my pass
way too easy, but in general passing design is not that good.

The truth is this obnoxious, pathetic, excremental excuse of a sport game interferes too much, it is programmed to sabotage every thing You do.

The game designers and programmers are a bunch of arrogant, cunning malicious, annoying, dishonest, unethical sadists. They took your money, make you enraged with mathematical certainty (because they can) and then taunt you some more (asking "Where is the defense?" after the script suddenly pulled your defenders out of position).

That was a bit strong worded :shocking:

Obviously there are problems but at least Konami tell us when fixes are done, unlike EA who say nothing for a whole year and destroy a game in the process.

PES is not the perfect game yet, but they are doing well with great potential.

It annoys me that so many passes go straight to the opposition player. If they're somewhat in the way of where you want to pass, there's a good chance that the ball will land directly at their feet.

felt it was much worse in FIFA, where if you missed a pass by sending it too far left or too far right it automatically traveled to the CPU. There was no ball freedom whatsoever. Goal kicks in both FIFA and PES always find a player no matter what

Glad it helped. I don't have much of a problem with passing. The thing is you might be trying to force a pass too much. As I said you need to create space for your players. Try exploiting space and pulling the opposition out of position by running into it. When receiving a ball try to make your first touch into space away from a defender, this will give you room to make a pass. Use one two's to drag opposition players out of position, and also trigger runs with the right stick and L1/LB button. Try lob passes to players on the other side of the pitch or pass backwards if no pass is really on in order to make space.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is, if you feel your always forcing a pass when it's not really on, you need to try and start of thinking of ways of creating space and doing it quicker. If you hestitate too long on the ball not really going anywhere, the opposition has time to settle and mark your players closely and can make things very difficult for you. But, sometimes you just have to slow it down, pass it back or across the pitch and start again.

Also, that attacking style, Possession, doesn't really make your players make runs that much. Its only for your players finding space to receive a pass and not for really getting behind the opposition to score. You need to trigger runs sometimes to make things happen, whether that be one two's or using the right stick and L1/LB button.

Hopefully, some of that helps.

Lol, jesus relax! The game is most certainly not programmed to sabotage everything you do.

Also, since nobody mentioned it, try different "pass support" settings. If you think computer AI is interfering, use full manual passing...

I tried 1 bar for many games. Still passed too many balls to the CPU. Even though I don't feel like I was pointing at or even remotely close to the CPU when I passed.

I then moved it to no pass support and it was a bit better but it still showed up. I am not pointing the way the ball goes for it to travel to the CPU, so something is still overriding my direction.

Just to experiment at half time of my last match I went to 3 bars of support and my passing improved.

In most of my games lately I am using Espanyol.

I am going to try 3 again from the start of the match.

For me so far default 2 didn't fix the errant passes to the cpu, neither did 1 or 0.

It doesn't matter what pass-support, it's obviously purpose. I tried full manual and it still happens as much as it does on full support.

So far playing more on 3 bar support level for passing I am having far less passes go to the CPU.

But, I have also "evolved" my gameplay, what I mean by that is before when I played a pass to someone I might turn and pass it and it would go to the CPU.

So "evolving" I now play a pass to my player then I control them long enough to create a new passing lane and then pass. So say something as simple as just trapping the pass, then move or jink a little left or right depending on where the player you want to pass to is located and then squared up to them and having created a new passing lane your passes have a much higher success rate.

wish we could influence the cpu passing error as in FIFA. Some remarkable passes by the cpu being made. Particularly off their heads

This x1000.

I noticed last night training with Cagliari that you can play a bit of station to station aerial balls by holding RB and hitting X (type 2 controls) for the high pass.

Cagliari was very adept at first touch aerial passing.

But as I have learned with skill moves, getting good in training with them doesn't mean they will fire off correctly in a match. So that same enigma may exist with stringing together a series of high passes in a match.
