AI Power Boosts

60 minutes gone, you're 2-0 up and cruising while the hapless opposition tries to get a grip of the game. All of a sudden, a substitution happens or maybe a change of tactics (AI Attacking/Defensive mentality) and you can probably see a change of striker or a defender has joined the attack to try and get something out of the match. With no prior warning of the oppositions sudden steroids boosts in all of their players, you notice a few funny things that's happening in the match that you've never seen beforehand:

1) a 170+ cm (or less) player is winning headers against your giant of a defender and knocking them about Diego Costa style.

2) The opposition suddenly learned how to do one-touch passing and almost always they will find players at the final third and your whole defense panics at what can they do to stop them.

3) 4 players come rushing to your controlled player like a madman on drugs trying to win the ball back and you desperately try to quickly pass the ball to your nearest teammate. (most of the time they somehow nick it off you!)

4) Your players feel like they've just had 4 buckets of KFC and have never trained in years. First touch is like a short pass sometimes and it takes them forever to turn.

5) Corner! (This is my personal experience) Opposition has a corner and you set your team nicely with a mix of zonal and man to man marking. The ball comes in and your 6ft2in defender is in position to head the ball away but what does he do? He stands still and so it happens a short opposition player is just behind him and he nods the ball home to pull one back!

Well these are some of the scenarios that I've faced while playing ML in Top Player difficulty, don't even get me started on the refereeing. Does anyone share the same experiences as me?

I think it's a mixture of attack level, and advanced tactics....mixed with a higher defensive line, gegenpress, or just a change to aggressive from passive and front line from AAD.

It happens in game, which is cool, because in real life this happens also.

Alongside the crappy AI superhuman abilities that are already there, they are probably magnified because of the aggression.

Those include:
-Super long range/accurate impossible perfect ball poke through someone's leg 5 yards away leg stab challenges.
-Slowest man in the world, becomes Usain Bolt while running towards their own goal defending man on ball.
-Legalized gang rape and sodomization in the defenders box(no pun intended).
-Rugby/Mixed Martial Arts style slide tackles from all direcitons with no consequences.
-NFL running back style AI power while dribbling with a 130lbs 5 foot 3 person, smashing Vincent Kompany, or Ibrahimovic into oblivion, sent tumbling 13 times, onto his back, from the attacker brushing his hair against him.
-Supernatural ESP type defensive anticipation for crosses, and perfect head pass accuracy, even at full speed in a big tight crowd, off balance.

All of that bull is magnified....which is what I think is happening. The aggression from increased attack level with advanced tactics on offense and D will cause a lot of the things your complaining about coupled with the crap stuff above. I'm almost certain.

I agree with you about the tactics and that is what I love so much about this years PES BUT, I really hate that the AI all of the sudden overlooks player stats and starts going on a rampage while your sluggish players are trying to do the best version of the mannequin challenge.

I can actually score goals for fun in this game but these late game mechanics really bug me off especially in derby matches where they go full gung-ho on you and leave themselves open at the back where you can take advantage. I hope Konami has a way of balancing things out to make it more realistic and I don't leave gamers feel cheated in their way of making the game 'harder'/'realistic'.

Agreed bro. They're not making the game more realistic, they are making it harder by making it more unrealistic...goes back to the whole thing where they gave them some super human abilities, the individuals, to make the overall defense tougher....

Rather than making the defensive shape more rigid with better coverage of lanes, space, gaps, and each other. But that's another topic....and have posted about it in other threads....probably a much more complex formula that they haven't figured out how to balance yet without screwing up the overall game flow...bandaids we say...

Though I must note, though they say they haven't made any changes in the patch. I've noticed some much better gameplay, since then, seems they've increased ball speed on kicks for sure, but maybe overall. The shoulder barging, physical advantage of the defensive AI seems toned down too....which was very annoying.

There's another BS thing that completely overlooks player stats... literally take a tiny player like Chicharito or Neymar and they can smash Ibrahimovic like he was a bug....if they're defending....a playe 5'1" 125lbs with 40 rating in every category, can take a 6'5" 285lbs player 99 every rating, and crush him if he's defending him...it's ridiculous as hell, and it used to be much worse....it's not as blatant and widespread as it was during release.

I think one of the tweaks they did in the latest patch was to tone down on the swerve in free kicks. I used to score them on a regular basis as long as the free kick is in the correct position for a right footed or left footed shot. Now I can't even get it past the wall or curl it enough to hit the target.

I noticed but I attributed it to increased ball speed on the kicks....

Before the update, I could not hit a ground shot free kick with any pace at all, even 2 yards outside the box...the GK would have enough time to like, watch an Episode of Dragonball Z, take a shit, and then save the ball by catching it as the ball slowly rolled to him...

Now I can hit those shots with pace....

It's a pain in the a*rse to be honest, do you have trouble offloading your players in ML? I've put my bench warmers on the transfer list for almost 2 seasons now and nobody as even sniffed at them yet. Loan deals are also few and far between. I don't want to release cause I'm a shrewd businessman!

I have not experienced that at all. I've offloaded almost everyone I've wanted to loans/transfers, during the next possible transfer period...in superstar mode(don't know if it makes a difference)

I usually get great deals too, I guess for the younger players with more potential I always ask for reasonable offers, but, money/transfers has been one thing that has been way too easy, for me at least...
