[Ali & Sminky's] PES Support Thread - Saving your sanity and your controller.

The following is meant mostly tongue and cheek and as an alternative to the PESrage thread.

As you may or may not be aware we have several threads where you explode furiously at the annoyances of PES2011.

Time for a thread to get you through those difficult times. Does this sound similar to you

Snapped your PES game disc in half in a absolute fury?
Smashed your controller?
Screamed "No! You Cheating Fucking C**t!"
Woke up after a late night on PES and wondered why you bothered?

Well help is at hand to avoid a heart attack from a young age with the following tips ...

Remember, to be a decent player you have to play at the highest difficulty setting. Why else play? Its supposed to be a challenge.

So with that in mind, if you're playing ML Offline or MLO

> Limit yourself to no more than 3 consecutive matches at any one time.
> Don't drink caffeine
> Accept defeat
> Accept the limitations in the game

If none of these work myself and Ali are here to help you get through your PES troubles.

Remember, losing 1-0 to Stoke needn't cost you a new controller and a complaint from your neighbour for excessive abusive language.

Haha! I like it. A support group for people with PES troubles. No doubt it will turn into an angry debate about PES cheating.... but we'll try to sway away from that ;)

I would add some more advice to Sminky's list:

-End on a high.
If you've gone on a particularly good winning run, and have just won by a high score, stop playing. You'll go away feeling happier.

-Don't get drawn in to an anger-filled losing streak.
If you have had a nice 30 game unbeaten run, and have then lost a very frustrating match, stop playing. I've had the problem in the past where I've just lost a game, and want to carry on playing until I win again. I went through a patch of about 7 games where I could NOT get more than 1 goal. We all know this game goes through patches.... it's best to end when you sense one coming.

-Don't spend too long in the chat section of the online lobbies.
It's easy to get pissed off by the idiots online. The amount of abuse, unintelligible gibberish, casual (and not so casual) racism is enough to drive anyone insane. There's also the message spamming... eg:

x-iAMth3B35TaTPeS_2011-x
: Join my game, 2vs2 2vs2 2vs2
x-iAMth3B35TaTPeS_2011-x: Join my game, 2vs2 2vs2 2vs2
x-iAMth3B35TaTPeS_2011-x: Join my game, 2vs2 2vs2 2vs2

x-iAMth3B35TaTPeS_2011-x: Join my game, 2vs2 2vs2 2vs2

......etc etc

Take a few days off PES when you get annoyed by it. It does wonders!

Haha cool. I like your positive vibes:D Too many people are focusing on the negatives anyways. Keep it up.

Whenever the AI are lining up for one of those 'wonderful' FREEkicks I place a defender on the line behind the wall. 9/10 he's able to head the fk away. It really gives me a nice feeling of satisfaction to know I've 'cheated' the AI for a sure goal.

Dear Ali & Sminky,
My mom says I am the coolest kid at school yet... oh wait, that's a different agony aunt ;-)

I like playing either ML or against mates on a boring weeknight or weekend afternoon. I haven't played online cause I reckon its full of 15 yr old knobheads gamers that don't play football, but simply exploit all the bugs to score goals and play shite formations.
Is this true or an over generalisation?

Thanks,
Cold in Canadia

It's mostly true, but not completely. There are a few good players in the lobbies, and there are also various internet leagues you can join where certain standards are kept up.

If you're in the general lobby, the best thing you can do is call your room "no Barca or Real Madrid". That's more likely to bring in the good guys.

OR...play PES with the lower league team like Blackpool or Stoke...in this way, you will feel extremely happy when you win but not extremely over the top when lose.

It save your heart a lot more..haha

Dear Cold in Canadia / Mummy's boy,

Whilst I haven't ventured into MLO yet (since I don't really have enough time for online PES... my brother is always on the internet when he's in the house, therefore making it very laggy), so I can't comment on the people that play MLO, I will say (as the comment below says) that there are some decent folk online. It depends on how high your standards are, for what you consider to be "decent" (mine are pretty high). I will tell you that I havent played against Barca or Madrid for probably over 50 matches... even more. There is some level of maturity online..... you just have to look hard :)

Yours Sincerely,

Mildly Chilly in England

Calling your match room something like that, doesn't always work.... since it does seem that a lot of people online have the inability to read! I spend most of the time kicking people out of my room!

I often play with my beloved Bolton online. It gives me more satisfaction when I win, which I usually do with them. It's like I subconciously up my game when I pick them. Had the same effect when I used to play Fifa 10, rarely lost with Bolton.

Can testify to some of the points above, my baby son keeps waking early hours, so gives me an excuse to PES it. I was at boiling point yesterday, after finishing the first season second as Liverpool in Top Player, I went on a disastrous 'one more game' run in the next season, that saw me lose 5 of the next 7. I have a very nice 50 inch plasma, but I was a mili-second away from ending it's life and my controllers, I also have a headache and sore voice after first Inter won three two with me leading twice, and then Man United raped me at Old Trafford, I had 22 shots, 14 on target, they had 5 shots 2 on target and scored both. I hit my head so hard with the controller that the dent is still hurting today. I'm not insane, I'm a 'healthy' 29 year old family man with job....but this ******* game on times drives me nuts. Yesterday after the Man Utd loss, I pouted for around three hours, that was after putting the disc back in the case and vowing to play FIFA...a few hours later we had patched things up and me and PES are 'back on'.

On a side point, does anybody notice a difference between say the first and second season. I'm finding teams much harder to break down and far, far more clinical. I've also had to change my formation, as I find that almost every team seems to be pressing me more far up the pitch. I play without any patches or updates or OF because I find that it becomes more unresponsive as soon as I apply these, so I'm Merseyside Red with no edits. Anybody find this? I know some people hinted on here that the CPU learns your game or something, is this right, if so every team is now ******** dynamite on the break I can tell you!

PS I've also had to change my camera view to wide instead of the default one to find 'other' ways of breaking down the CPU, long diagonal balls to other wing etc etc

Maybe, but I didn't buy it, just borrowed it off my brother and played it occasionally. I played PES 2010 mostly, don't you worry :)

Haha! Being a healthy 29 year old family man has NO effect on PES Rage.....even though I can't speak from experience (since I am neither 29 or a family man). a
I can say that as you get older (I'm 25 in just over 1 week), the PES Rage decreases, but is always there.

Teams do change their tactics, reacting to the way you pay, or how good your team is. I'm in my 5th season with my Bolton ML side. Most of my first team are rated mid to late 80s, with one (Kroos) over 90. 90% of the teams I play against play a 4-5-1 with 2 defensive mids. In the 2nd half they'll change to 3 defensive mids, regardless of the score.

The wide view is much better BTW.

Dear Capt Canuck/Mothers Pride

I have indeed ventured onto MLO and I'll be honest, its not too bad. Yes there are some frankly absurd formations being used but these can be countered with the right tactics on your part.

If anything the formation you will come across the most is the Barcelona formation and I'm afraid to say for the most part alot of the younger players do just play through balls down the wing looking for cut backs or trying to check inside. It can be annoying but remember it can be countered.

Sometimes it can be more fun 'shutting up shop' and denying the one trick ponies the satisfaction of only playing one way.

Cheers

Dear PES therapy people; I've always read your threads and agreed to most of them but I never decided to join until now that I saw this one. Let's start saying that I'm a D1 player and these are my players Valdez gk; Pique and Agger Cb; Fucile RB; Abidal LB; Keita DMF; Lucho CMF; Xavi AMF; Belasie LWF; Villa CF; and Messi SS on the right, needless to say I'm a Barça fan, my teams name is NOT BARÇA YET. Well I need help cuz I'm on a reall bad losing streak out of the last 20 games I've lost 12 tied 4 and won 4 the freaking AI pulls really nasty crap on me I suppose you already experienced on your own. What should I do?!

PS I knew it was a bad ideas to buy this game...
