I believe PES12 is the best PES on the current generation of hardware when playing online. The player controls are just right, skillful players are just like in real life and not overpowered.
But offline the game is terrible. Since PES 2010 the AI has been ridiculous. On the regular difficulty you can thrash the computer easily but if you turn up the difficulty to professional every single player on the AI's team plays like Zidane, even the defenders, they seem to be able to wriggle out of any situation. I wouldn't mind if the skillful players like Iniesta and Mess werei doing these moves but when the likes of Lampard, Schweinstiger and even bloody Lucio pulling out these moves it's very frustrating. As a result of this getting the ball back from the AI is very difficult.
I don't think it's even possible for human players to do these moves, I've never seen anyone pull them out online.
It also becomes ridiculously hard to score, as the AI somehow swarms your players each time you get the ball and none of your strikers make runs behind the defence, making throughballs almost useless.
Yet when the AI gets the ball they always have plenty of space around them and can play throughballs to their striker.
I've played the PES 2013 demo and the professional difficulty seems to be much better, maybe a bit too easy but it's better than PES 2012.
If it wasn't for the superb online then I would've given up on this a long time ago but I still play most days.
