Do we get and benefit from picking a captain of our ML offline team, to me it doesn't seem so, more cosmetic than anything.

I usually pick a player that I know is going to be around for a while, but is there something I may be missing?.. and giving the armband to a certain player do something to the way he plays or how good his stats are etc?....

This is a repost as I posted it in the PES2010 section like a moron.

Give the captains armbannd to the player with the highest teamwork ability - This is a stats below keeping skills. Press triangle on a player on the game plan and see how much teamwork they have - e.g. xavi has 98 teamwork because he has been in Barcelona all his life and he will stay there for a long time. Also if there is no one with good teamwork, check their mentality and form - remember, the higher the mentallity the more harder he will try. Also, someone with good form will help as he hardly misses matches - Puyol has 95 mentality and form of 8 and casillas has a mentality of 91 so they are good captains

Abu97, and this information you give us is based on what? Is there any evidence that the captain of the team has any influence in the game?

captains have no influence on this game, every game i change formations and forget to pick a captain and the cpu assigns my captain and each time i play as i usually do and win, only time i see i am struggling is when my players are just tired or not feeling their positions or its just a good team...captain is put on this game because every team in soccer has a captain or captains...thats how i see it anyway

Actually, if you do give the armband to the highest mentality, it does influence the game - the player tries harder (according to konami) to win a match and probably would not give sloppy passes or silly mistakes

Hi abu97, and thanks for the info. What you said is the definition of the "mentality" stat and it works at player level. However I haven't read anywhere the captain's mentality stat would influence the whole team, that's why I asked. Would you remember where you got that information?

If what abu97 is right that's pretty cool, to have a captain to be less sloppy with passing, covering etc... If it works off a certain stat, that would make sense too. Thanks for the info guys.

I know what zizou4ever is trying to say bbut i think it does have an influence, coincidentally they might be picked for team of the year, and if ya win a cup and they hold it, it'll make them valauble and attract more clubs

Traditionally in PES, the player with the highest mental stats makes the best captain. Can't find it in '11, but in older versions, you could press a button on the lineup screen to "show teamwork", and the higher a player's teamwork stat, the higher the teamwork of his teammates with said player as captain (and players of the same nationality used to receive an extra TW boost, dunno if they still do). I've always found the effects most noticeable with a 90+ TW AMF/CMF/DMF as captain.
