Following the demise of their rivals Rangers FC, Celtic have been invited into the NPower Championship. Neil Lennon has left the club following continued safety fears over his period as manager. Rookie Declan Robert who had been a youth coach at the club has been handed the reigns in a shock move which had seen the club expected to appoint a high profile name to take on Englands second tier or even to promote assistant manager Johan Mjallby to the role.
Media sceptics especially south of the border believe Celtic will struggle to succeed in the league with them haven came from a 'glorified amateur league' and being 'a whale in a teardrop' and now being just another club in a tough league.
The manager has yet to really delve deep into the transfer market, opting to bring in two youth players in Belgian central defender Nouhei who looks to be making big strides already, having started in pre-season vs Nordjylland and then in the first league fixture, a home game vs Leicester City. Also from the youth team is Welsh forward Wroughllen who despite having not yet made an appearance for Celtic, was recently included in the Welsh national team. A big future expected for both.
Celtic look to have a pretty strong side, and the manager looks to show no fear of the new job and new league as the side look to attack teams from the off, opting to play 4-2-1-3 formations, however, this may change away from home as the season progresses.
The manager has set his aim high, win the Championship and take his side of a good FA Cup run. After that? "The sky is the limit." the new man told SkySports News earlier.
Pre season got under-way with a well earned win vs Nordjylland, however, the winner didn't come until 2 minutes from time when substitute Lassad Nouioui snuck in behind the defence, rounded the keeper and rolled it in to finish the game 1-0 to the home side.
He would however, have to settle for a subs place again as the former European champions in their 125th anniversary, hosted Leicester City. Gary Hooper opened the scoring early on before strikes from James Forrest and Georgios Samaras added to the scoresheet to put the Bhoys 3-0 up at half-time. Enter, Lassad again. A tap in got him off the mark in competitive goalscoring for the club before a calm finish after a clever 1-2 with Samaras made it 5. Then with 10 minutes to go, a poor pass from Paul Konchesky set Lassad off again and he lifted it over Schmeichal to make it 6 of the best for the Hoops. Maybe the media and other teams will take note of just what Celtic may do in England and beyond over the coming seasons.
Going to keep this up to date if people are interested in it.
