The Chat box has been replaced by a shout box. As before, this is available to Elite members and staff only and will be rolling out over the next 5-10 minutes.
Although not immediately as lightweight as the chat box, there are many more back-end controls and some nice features which the shout box offers over the chat box. I will be reviewing server load to ensure that the shout box does not cause any issues - if it does I will re-enable the chat box while looking for another alternative otherwise we will be sticking with the shout box.
One feature is rooms. The creation of rooms has been turned off but there will always be two: one for general chat and one specifically for the Fantasy League as there are times when FL discussion floods the chat box and those of us who are not involved would probably prefer to have a choice as to whether we read about it or not. It can be slightly tempremental when it comes to changing rooms - just click and wait a few seconds and if it hasn't changed the content of the chat, click again and wait.
The active users list is slightly odd - it will occasionally show the name of someone who isn't viewing the shout box (or does not have permission to do so) because they recently posted in the forum. That's just an odd quirk of the product.
You are also able to ignore (and un-ignore) other users. Sounds have been disabled as I suspect most people would find them annoying.
A feature I have currently disabled but which might need to be explored is auto-idle. Users who have not posted in the shout box within the last x seconds or have navigated away from the page will be flagged as idle. When idle, you will not see posts which are being made and this will only update for you when you unflag yourself or send a new 'shout'. I imagine auto-idle will drive people up the wall so I'll avoid it for as long as possible. Hopefully, I will never need to enable it.
In order to view the archive, click on the down arrow next to the header "PESGaming Shoutbox" and select "Archive".
