You could say the same about a few on here and Fifa mate.

Thats what winds me up. Reviewers get criticised for not giving it a chance when the review scores are not favourable yet no one is prepared to let Fifa grow on them in here and a few other pes forums. i'd say Fifa has just about as much adjustment/learning curve/period as Pes when you play manually but no ones really prepared to give it a go. Its like people just pick up the controller and immediately don't like it.

This is very true. However, I personally didn't really find there to be any real 'adjustment period' between Fifa 09 and Fifa 10. I was able to pretty much pick up with 10 where i left with 09. I guess that's because EA chose to play it safe and just stick with its winning formula from 09 and just made minor changes. Kind of like with PES5 and PES6.

I just can't get into the single player modes in Fifa, i don't know why. I didn't even finish a single season in manager mode on 09. This is why i'm eager for PES to return to form, the master league used to drag me in for hours at a time. The signs are looking good from what i've played/seen so far anyway.

PES 2010 review

I am really shocked that pes 2010 is not getting good reviews. Seabass is really going to have to get his act together. I have bought every pes game and I was really looking forward to the reviews but they are all saying pes 2010 hasnt really changed from last year. I am seriously thinking of not buying it now. Will they ever learn that the last 2 versions of pes were not up to the high standard of other konami games like mgs. A really really really dispointed fan. :(

In my opinion, PES6 was a drastic let down compared with 5, and where the series began to go wrong, I think 5 was the peak, with all other games falling either side. It's also my opinion that FIFA is too limited a game to require as much of an 'adjustment period'. There is much more variety in PES, although much less than there used to be.

-IGN's review seems extremely short sighted, and written by someone who doesn't really know his PES... something like 'Bad keepers have been a tradition in the game' ... most previous iterations, particularly 5, had very well programed keepers... it's only really 09 & 08 that have had poor keepers, indicating that its not tradition, but Seabass's recent shoddery. (Keepers weren't exactly brill on 3).

Who feels that some of the reviews are exceedingly harsh? I don't think it deserves an awesome rating or anything. I think an 8ish is fair and 7 just seems really harsh.

The videogamer review makes a really silly comment near the top. The guy said Pes has always been known for sluggish and unresponsive players. Say what?

I played the FIFA 10 demo and the PES 10 demo, I can't believe people think FIFA looks better, based on the demos PES just looks great and FIFA looks OK?!. (look at the back of the players, the numbers and names are too large for the kits, common:faceplm:) I cannot understand why PES is always so underrated and everybody praises FIFA. PES is a feeling of joy, while fifa is so fake and plastic. I play alot of PES with my friends, the variation of situations in PES is so large and satisfying. We laugh, we also laugh if the keeper fails, it's just so funny sometimes.

I think it's really tight graphics wise. Fifa looks and moves fantastic from wide camera but yea it's so ugly up close. Ugly kits, unproportionate cartoony looking player models, bad faces. I skip the cut scenes every chance I get.

Pes is of course amazing up close but when it's in motion from afar it pales in comparison to Fifa. Cut scenes are really worth watching though and add to the immersive experience.

The problem is, I bet many reviewers go in looking at the licenses/teams PES has compared to FIFA and it already puts them in a place to knock a few points off.

Not to mention the fact that there's not too many reviewers who've been happy with the menu presentation for years.

Then again, fans of the game would admit they're a bit shit. They're pretty awful in FIFA too, considering they've kept the same layout for about 3 years.

Yeah that's one of the things i love about pes. That it actually makes you laugh sometimes even if your own keeper makes a big mistake. At least i do :)

Am I the only one who is wondering about how magazines did vote the last Pro Evolution Titles compared to PES10? Pro Evolution Soccer 08, the most worse Pro Evolution Soccer on consoles ever, mainly because of performance problems, did get best ratings everywhere. Pro Evolution Soccer 09 was rated at about the same amount of PES 08 and even higher at several magazines.

Now PES10 is about to be released and gets ratings that are worser than the PES08 once, I wonder how this is possible as there were only be "improvements" compared to the last two titles. When I compare FIFA10 to FIFA09 I do not see that much difference.

I think it depens on how much advertising the mag or internetdomain has. If it has advertising about FIFA they rate it good to have a good "relationship" to EA... A magazine is nothing else but a business company. So I guess the one who is paying more gets their opinions... and we all know who is paying more...

When someone would give me 5.000 Euros for saying that I love Fifa and use the PES10 Disc to rub of the ice of my cars glasses... I would say it...

i wouldn't trust any review off gamespot... especially since they where found out to be taking backhanders for favourable reviews

its also funny how eurogamer when they reviewed fifa.. the same day they had a big advert for fifa 10 on their site :shifty:

Wow, some of you sound like a spouse who's partner is cheating, and whilst everyone is trying to tell them, they just won't believe it.

I can't believe there are conspiracy theorists trying to put some spin on it as if the reviewers are somehow corrupt or something similar. Wake up for god's sake. Don't be so bloody sad.

I've been hoping for PES to pull a blinder as much as anyone out there. I'd have liked nothing more than to have gone to metacritic and read a load of top notch reviews, but after playing the demo I wasn't really expecting to, to be honest.

I didn't think I'd be saying this anytime soon, but Fifa is better than Pro Evo in every way, except maybe the close ups, and who cares about them?
That's the way it is. konami need to do so much better, because where Pro used to be the game of substance versus Fifa's style and licenses, pro evo now looks like a shabby arcade game in comparison.

The reviewers have always been fair in the large part. Pro has always been ahead of Fifa, despite EA's deeper pockets.

Metacritic gets all the reviews and gives an average score. here's how pro has done over the years.

On PS2

Pes 1 93%
Pes 2: 93%
pes 3 92%
pes 4 91%
Pes 5 92%

Next gen: xbox 360

Pes 6 79%
pes 08 76%
pes 09 74%

pes 10... so far.... 77%

Not good enough. But certainly fair. Maybe even generous in some instances. I won't be buying it anyway.

Fifa 10 is going to be the first Fifa game I've bought since I was a kid with a Megadrive.

That's some pretty bad form from Konami.

Maybe you're the one that needs to wake up. Money makes the world go round baby. If you're still skeptical, read Ign's review of Pes 2008 for the ps3, which initially got 9.2 but they reduced it to 8.6 few months later cuz of all the slack they got. Any sane person who played the game knows that it deserves nothing higher than 6/10.

Eurogamer scored Pes 2008 8/10 (1 of the worst footy games ever made), Pes 2009 8/10, and Pes 2010 7/10 even after stating that it's a big improvement over 2009 :erm:. Someone with 1/2 a brain would work out that something is not right here.

A big leap in the right direction, if you ask me.Especially the players' likeness.Take Xavi, for instance.Input lag is an issue that has to be addressed, though.Another thing that I noticed is that your opponents running on the flanks could be very bull-headed no matter how hard you press - hellbent on delivering a perfect cross.A bit unreal but these are minor snitches on an otherwise great edition.Waiting for the full game and lots of kitservers!

Ok, my turn. Graphically, it's brilliant. Really quite stunning. Getting to the stage where you don't know how much more realistic it can get. The presentation and structure of the game is great, the direction that ML is going is really exciting, and not far off being playable as a manager game on it's own. The fact that you can edit and customise almost everything has been a staple of OCD ridden PES lovers for years, and this continues nicely.

Anyway, enough praise. You'll notice I haven't actually mentioned anything to do with the gameplay yet, and with good reason I think. Although it's nice that they are trying to take steps forward from the slightly arcadey PES of recent years, the changes this year are abit too radical and nowhere near refined enough. In the past, I could play for hours, take big bites out of seasons in one sitting, but now that is not so. I've found myself just having to switch off after a couple of games in annoyance.

Responsiveness is an issue, particularly in terms of shooting. Lots of people have said this and I agree, it seems to be VERY hard to hit it first time and get a decent header on it. This is particularly annoying for someone who likes to get it out wide.

I could go on, but I can't be arsed. To sum up, most reviews from mags and websites have been very good, undeservedly so. For me it's definitely in the sort of 6 out of 10 category, i.e. good but with reasonably big flaws. Mainstream reviewers just don't have the bollocks to give it a bad (or even mediocre) review because they don't want to appear to be biased in a two horse race. Plus, think about it, these guys review all the games that come out, so how much time can they really devote to each one..?

yes i have WE10 demo with keepers who 'cant catch a headed ball to save their lives' problem

players who run with the ball, make a pass and stop dead on the spot.. as though their part in the game is now over. they carried the ball, made the pass, took out the picnic basket and camped out for the evening.

nobody else notice how the ai is reluctant to continue running AFTER you make a pass? (you shouldnt have to make a 1-2 play to keep them running to support an attack)...or how players never run on and into the ball if it breaks free right in front of them?

apart from the keepers, and passing, it is this lack of momentum and fluidity that make me feel like the series has not progressed since PS2... its like unless i control every aspect of my team they are inept. and given that you can only directly control 1 player at a time, this is a little suspect, and massively detracts from the notion of 'real football' to me.

you are right ...the controls are awful in 2010 and 2009 ..i am still playing 2008 on ps3 ...fifa has given players more control over the ball and the passes and the players ..it used to be better on konami ....but since 2009 ...the controls have become awful ...i thought they where going to fix it this year ...but for manual mode players ...pes 2009 , 2010 is not there game ...the cursor does not change unless u change it by pressing L1 and if u dont the player will act on his own - ai my ass man - in the older versions the cursor will change to the player u r passing to ...and carry on from there ...another thing ...players run in to each other ..let alone the referee....i hope there is an update coming soon ...and i hope they fix it , coz honestly ...i am too loyal to konami , i cant enjoy fifa ..altough i played with it for a while ....but konami is something else ...we just need our controls over the players back ....and the konami cup mode for multiplayers
