William Gallas vs Jamie Carragher

I have made a mistake! Gallas should have SB as registered position!

Right, these are two of the best defenders in the EPL at the moment, and like I said before two main reasons why their respective clubs are both so successful.

Adaptation - The first major thing about these two players is that they are both very versatile players. They can play any of the positions along the back line, which gives them an immeasurable value to their club. If either team has defensive problems, they can rely on these players to hold it together, and be able to provide valuable cover in the positions. BUT, there is one major difference in their versatility. Jamie Carragher can play one of all the roles across the back four, but say when he plays a full back role, he shows his central back tendancys. He doesnt like going FORWARD if playing in a full back role, and he acts like a centre back. We saw how much encouragement it had to take to get him to make attacking runs at the world cup when playing right back. William Gallas on the other hand, can play just as many positions, but he can ADAPT better in each of these roles. For example, he has played just about all of Chelsea's season as either a left or right full back, and he acts like one. He makes those attacking runs, gets crosses in, and isnt afraid to shoot. So you see how this is a major difference between the two players? For me, this gives Gallas a slight edge in this department, as he can not only play in those positions, but can ADAPT to them better than Carragher and assume a more convincing role. This is most noticable in the attack/defence ratio, and the aggression rating of each player. Gallas has a more balanced ratio and a higher aggression. With this we will see him getting up the flanks and supporting the wingers more. Carragher's ratio on the other hand is much more swayed toward's defence, and he has a lower aggression. In the full back position he will be much less reluctant to get forward as opposed to Gallas.

Differences - The main differences between these two players we can pinpoint, are their pace, response, and mentality. Gallas is definitley the faster of the two, and this may be the reason why he tends to get forward a lot more. I still think Carragher has sufficient pace and stamina to attack though. As is said Response is a big difference, and Carragher reigns supreme here. He has superb response and awareness, and this makes up for his lack of pace sometimes. We might occasionally see Gallas just have a momentary lapse. Two great examples are in the Tottenham game this season. Firstly, with the conceeded goal, and secondly when Jenas almost made it two. See how Gallas uses his pace, and Carragher his awareness to achieve the same ends? Finally their mentality. Along with Gerrard, they probably have the two best mentality's in the EPL, and it is one of the best things about Carragher. He never gives up and is always fighting for every scrap. Look no further than the Champion's league final, where he produced one of the best performances of the season due to fantastic mentality. Gallas still has a good mentality, but not close to Carragher's phenominal work rate.

Delivery - Like I said, Carragher isnt likely to make those runs down the wing we see Gallas doing, but he can actually produce a half decent cross sometimes, although by no means anything to write home about. This is something William has improved on as bit aswell, and with long pass accuracy and speed of 70 and 72, and a curling of 71, he can also produces pretty decent crosses. I would say he is slightly better than Carragher at crossing, but this is mainly due to a bit more accuracy and better curl. One other thing to mention is that William has a pretty poor left foot, but he isnt afraid to use it. He is definitely improving with it, but it is till nothing special. (A bit of a real swinger!) Ingame you see him using it a fair bit, but his accuracy with it isnt the greatest.

Technical ability
- Neither players strong point. I would say Gallas has slightly better technical ability, but only slightly. He has better first touch, but there is barely any difference in their dribble accuracy, again Gallas being slightly better. William has bit better general shooting and passing, and we see him use a shot a lot more as he gets in those advanced positions.

So who would I rather have in my team? I would say that William very slightly edges it for me, as I feel that he can adapt his versatility better than Jamie. If I wanted a rock solid defender to scrap for everything it would be Carragher, but with Gallas you would get his attacking aid and pace as well.

Awesome work Bags! On first glances both look very accurate. Carra's original stats where very underrated...and thats a comment coming from an Evertonian. He's been outstanding for the Red Shite and his consistency at club level is annoyingly brilliant. Looking forward to the analysis, nice work mate.

Analysis added.

Bluescouse - its a hard thing to admit talent when it performed by someone you despise! Yet one of the key things to stat editing, and one which Im glad you recognise. Its funny when say I released Van Nistelrooy, I had United fan's PMing me saying he should have 86 for top speed! Bias is not good! But there is definitely nothing wrong with a bit of hatred:laugh:

Hey bagrunnell.

I will be making a classic option file for PES6 when it comes out. What has this got to do with you? Well as you may know, alot of great players have retired and was wondering if you could determine their peak stats as your stat-judging seems to be top class.

The players I am talking about are: Shearer, Roy Keane, Zidane & Bergkamp.

I know PES6 will probably include 'their' versions of them at peak but I would really appreciate it if you would look into it.

If you don't want to then that's more than ok, but if you do then there is no rush as PES6 doesn't arrive for a good few months.

Thanks.

can you possibly do a comparison between the 18 year old michael owen(world cup '98) and the 18 year old wayne rooney

I think that would be a cracking comparison!

Bag-man: Fantastic Carragher and Gallas, putting them in my game in a min.

What did you think of my suggestion of Ribery and Luis Garcia?

Luca Toni and Ballack should be good, looking forward to them!

Keep up the good work as always!

Cali clown: Nice Lyon apps, do you have anymore?
