Contract Renewal On Hold?

I'm currently in the winter break of my third season in ML.

My best player (Tenanbaum) asked for his contract to be renewed:

He's currently on just over £1m a year but he wanted a new contrace £3.5m a year for 4 years! :shocking:

I thought that was a bit cheeky from Tenny so I offered him a very reasonable £2.8m a year for 4 years..... and he put his contract talks on hold :crymore:

What I want to know is - Is there a way I can offer him another deal or will he leave me when his contract runs out at the end of the season?

I really don't want to lose him as he's only 24 and my best striker! Will I have another chance to offer a contract at the end of the season?

Unfortunately you are stuck till the end of the season.

If no other team comes in for him before the next summer transfer window opens up, he will get punted into the Free Agents pool and you can try and sign him again then. In past experience (on 2010 haven't completed my first 2011 season yet) the player might then ask for an even larger salary if age and attributes are good.

There is nothing worse than a key squad member putting contracts on hold. When a good player is going into his renewal period I always play them as much as possible to keep their spirits up, even if they weren't normally a starter to prevent them bolting.

Thanks for the advice Capt. Looks like I might lose him then :(

If no one comes in for him before end of season will he ask for his contract to be renewed again or will he just leave the club and become a free agent?

Should be the free agent pool, as he'll be without contract having turned you down.
Between New Years and the end of the season its always best to do a search with parameters (contract years 1-1). Then you can see which players on other teams have declined to renew and then try and sign them without paying a transfer fee. At a minimum you can then turn around and transfer list them and try and make a few quid ;-)

You can bet your bottom dollar a team will come in for him. I've had similar experiences where a player was only a couple of weeks away from making it to the free agent list and Chelsea out of nowhere signed a pre-contract with him. The better the player the more likely he will be snapped up. Unless you set transfer frequency to low.

Thats it! You reckon they do that just to turn the scews in that last time and tease you as if he'll stay :rolleyes:
I remember losing DiMaria that way when I platooned him. Got the hump, put contract on hold and just before the Champions League final he got nicked!

I think cruefans right had the same thing with mikel owen. Was getting old his stats were dropping like a stone but wanted like 4 mill when he was on 900 k (cheaky chap.

Anywas offered him lower he put his contract on hold and at the start of the summer transfers i offerd him more money but the little git wanted even more and so he got pinched off me.

Gurrr if he does get nicked befor the transfer period then i think you are in the poo my freind :(

The same happened to me with Torres, Kuyt and Aurelio.

we were loosing a lot of games, and Torres wasn't happy (surprise, surprise), those 3 players held out until the end of the season, after I turned it around, and I was then able to re-negotiate with Torres and Kuyt (Sorry Aurelio!) abeit at ransom!

Well I've got 4 games of the season to go and so far no ones come in for him :)

There were 3 teams watching him but they've all gone now.

Hopefully at end of season he'll ask for £3.5m a year again and this time I'll snap his hand off!!!

Please don't leave me Tennabaum :crymore:

You need to start making bids for out of contract CFs and SSs as a replacement, start sitting with the other players in the cafeteria at lunch, you know do the aloof thing and then he'll realise how wrong he has been :laugh:

Ternalbaum had 3 teams watching him at start of transfer window but he still re-started contract negotiations with me!

The cheeky monkey upped his demands even more though - He wanted £4.4m per season for just 2 seasons! I managed to twist his arm into accepting £4.4m a year for 3 seasons though :)

I'm well happy with that - He's my highest paid player by nearly £3m a season but it would have cost me a lot more than that to replace him.

And the icing on the cake is that I managed to sneak into 6th place and qualify for the Europa League for next season! Happy days :D

The fans are delighted!

Well done on getting him signed in the end!

I guess as you top player, he plays all the time anyways, but I wondered if you made sure he played every match in his favoured position to keep him keen enough? I've noticed in the past it's typically players who think they're stars and don't get enough matches that walk.

Yeah I made sure I played him in every match he was available for and that seemed to do the trick. He started his contract renewal straight away once the season ended.

Just need a quality strike partner for him now and Champions League here we come!! :D
