Dealing with CPU through balls

Long time FIFA player giving PES a go for the first time. First off I am enjoying the game so far. I like the feel of the game as well as most of the mechanics. It is a steep learning curve for me, but in a few hours I was able to play a reasonable game on professional difficulty. My major defensive weakness is the CPU constantly sends through balls and is really the only type of goal I have been giving up. I can't seem to stop it. I've played with my line settings, etc but nothing so far seems to work. Am I missing something really simple in the settings? Is it my skill and technique? Any advice from more experienced PES players would be much appreciated.

Get behind the defence with the player you control, and let another of your players pressure the player on the ball with the square button.

Use a custom preset tactic. Adjust your defensive line slider to bring your defensive line back, although I think you've already tried that by the sounds of it. Maybe adjust your Attack/Defence level to a lower setting also as it may be sending too many players forward. How many goals a game are you conceding this way?

Thanks for your suggestions. I have played with the line sliders and it doesn't seem to help much. I am not conceding a ton of goals per game usually only two at most and even none sometimes, but it just seems that once the CPU crosses midfield within two passes its blasting a through ball. No real build up to the attack. I will try the attack/defence setting you suggested.

It's one of those cheating AI things mate, it's hard to defend against, but just try not to bring your defenders out too much and try to force the offside. Other than that, just hope you time your keeper coming out and that he saves it.

I set my defensive line-slider to zero, and I felt it really made a difference...a lot less through balls from the COM now

Thanks for all of the advice guys. Funny enough what worked for me was lowering the difficulty from pro to reg. I was afraid to lower it because I didn't want to make the game too easy, but it turns out I should have been on regular all along, lol. Scores are not unrealistic and I'm under 50% win rate, so o guess I just need to stay here for awhile and get better. Thanks again!
