Defending player quicker than Attacker

Does anyone else have the issue that the defending player is always quicker than attacker and almost impossible to escape with the ball?? except for with a few select players. I seem to get it where the defender catches up extremely easy but when he has the ball the attacker is suddenly alot faster.

obviously players run slightly slower when the have the ball due to keeping it under control but in the game it is a bit extreme

at least not just me then. I think this is my biggest annoyance with the game so far, the fact that you cant break free

L2 + R3 plus diagonal forward (they call it inside or outside bounce) will help you get loose on many occasions... pato is a beast at doing that

Keep your body between the defender and the ball and if you move correctly he won't be able to intercept the ball.

This is actually a great feature of the game that makes it more like a sim. How often do you see people simply running away from everybody in real football. Watch football properly! Its all about short bursts and R1+R2+diagonal for real breakaways when there is lots of open space. Konami is spot on here. In fact sprint-whores still "cheat" by playing real madrid and barca and ac milan online, those are still too fast.

Cant agree more! I love the feature, its not very often a player dribbling with a ball will simply out run the defender... everyone know that when you dribble with a ball your speed will be slower than your general sprinting speed.

Totally agree, even when you have the likes of LENNON and WALCOTT etc in real life, when they beat a man and are chasing the ball with the defender, they are never usually much more than a yard or two ahead, depending on the situation, so yes, this feels right to me and I have no complaint, I think there probably will be people playing this game who don't really want to think or work too hard when it comes to tactics and just want goals goals goals, which is fine if that's what you want, no problem with that, each to his own, but to me it feels so much sweeter when you carve out a well earned solid 1-0 victory!

also agree with the 3 posts above. players don't generally just run straight past defenders in real life unless it is a timed burst of pace. i'm liking the fact that the new direction konami have taken forces the player to work the ball.

the source of a lot of peoples gameplay complaingts seems to be that they can't do what they used to be able to. take penalties for example, read a lot of complaints from people saying they sky the ball every time, yet instead of learning how to take them they are on a forum bitching about how they are too hard...

I had a penalty shootout and ballooned half of them!!! I could have easily thought 'this is crap' but now I took the time to get the hang of it, it is more rewarding....

a sometimes good simple technique for getting past stubborn defenders is to run with him then just stop for a second with your foot on the ball and move forward again, works a lot against the less pacey defenders.

It's a great feature, they have just over done it a bit too much, i play a really high line because i know if they get it behind my defence, most of the time ill catch up with the striker. In real life, most people struggle to stay with Messi, in PES, Badstuber strolls along with him. They've just got the balance a little bit wrong.

Good feature but makes stats usless

to the above posters how often to you see Ronaldo or messi caught up when they have a 5 yard head start on a defender hmmm ?

I was really frustrated by this feature at first but I actually think its a good thing now. PES 2008 and 2009 were ruined by the fact you could run half the length of the pitch with a fast player and not be caught. It was far too easy and unrealsitic!

When I get on the ball with someone like Robinho or Pato I rarely use the sprint button now. It's more satisfying and effective to beat a defender by jinking past them in PES 2011 rather than just trying to out-sprint them. Plus when you don't use the sprint button you actually have far more control over the ball.

I tried the R1+R2 to get away from the defenders taht accelerate fast to catch up to you and it seems to work, but not always. Depends by the situation but it does make the game more realistic and rewarding! You could also use this feature in traffic to get away from tight spots. Still not very good with it but I will keep trying! ;-)

ha this made me laugh. im pretty sure when i play and watch football if someone who is clearly quicker gets round someone (with or without skill) and has 20 - 30 yards of space to run into then they are unlikely to get caught as quick as they do in this game.

Thing is there should be a balance between you being able to break free or not. You are playing a 10 minute simulation after all. Plus, if you want to be realistic, it should be all around, right?

I've missed tackles altogether on the likes of Messi and managed to get my defender up and caught up to him. Watch football properly. If Messi gets past you, you ain't catching up. I would be fine if my striker was losing balance, space or even the ball to a defender naturally. Thing is the game just cheats and there is nothing you can do.

Man alive I struggle to believe some of this tosh I really do, in my younger days - before I got an appetite for Curries and cakes! - I was a nippy winger and although not the most skillful my trade was in knocking the ball forward and sprinting past the defender onto it - or - a quick dribble and then knock the ball into space and 'leg it' after it. I was more than quick enough to get past my man, on PES this isn't the case ... and no I'm not comparing myself with a professional footballer but this is what Lennon and Walcott, who have already mentioned been, are most successful at ... yet even when you push the ball as far ahead as you can on PES you are still matched closely stride for stride by slower defenders.

Don't tell me thats 'real football' because that is clearly ridiculous. The defenders at Top Player are quicker than their stats, play it on Pro and you will see this more clearly.

I was no fan of PES2010 when Ronaldo could run the entire length of the pitch faster than a greyhound, that was just as stupid, but now its at the other extreme. A little middle-ground would be nice.
