your optimism is breathtaking :)

Indeed. But to be honest, I have tried to remain optimistic at heart for quite some years now, I mean, I have bought all the PS3 versions of PES so far, hoping to see a little new feature that might justify my unfounded optimism; but truth be told, Konami isn't doing anything, and EA Sports is also not doing anything, so I wouldn't describe myself as pessimistic.... At this point, I just think I'm being realistic as opposed to pessimistic.

I mean, I do think it is positive to have independent workers who understand the game enough to modify it, because I think that creates a new market that we currently do not have. Though having said that, I do not believe that Konami will ever produce a serious footy sim, and that's my point, that I do not expect anything from the PES franchise nor from the FIFA franchise, but I am optimistic about the potential of a third party producing a footy sim for more mature audiences.

And really, how difficult is it to implement a new dimension of distance within direction, into the game?

It's just not something that sounds difficult, and the fact that it is year 2012 and we still do not have anything close to proper movement within a 3D pitch, just speaks volumes about what the video game industry is today.

one more scripting/bug complaint. Does anyone notice when you and the CPU are running for a free ball the CPU manages to win the challenge by a split second nearly every time. that CPU is moving faster to the ball than that specific player normally would, and I am running for that free ball with a fast player myself but I seem to always lose out. makes me want to pull my hair out.

It happens to everyone, most noticably in PES 2012. Passing like I always say is rigged - when you tap a through ball toward your striker trying to curl it towards him, it goes straight towards the keeper, even on 0 pass assist and there is no way to prevent it.
Same goes for the timing of an interception - like you said, if a ball is loose, even before the the ball moves in that direction, the CPU know where it going to land so it decides if they are going to get it in the last split second or you.

I was going to write about passing rigging to but stuck with one subject. but now you opened another can of worms. I do feel that the passing feel suddenly changes when you are being scripted. suddenly passes don't get to players, or through passes ride along side car to players and they never scoop them up.....a cpu defender comes by and takes it. I would simply call it a glitch/bug but it seems to change when the CPU needs to make a comeback or only around the box when I am moving into score.
