Has anyone heard about the new DirectX. i saw some pictures of games running on it and it looks amazsing. But ive heard that it only works on Windows Vista and NOT Windows XP. Can anyone confirm this. if so does this mean that we wont be able to play a lot of new games on our computer unless we upgrade

This is two pictures of Flight Simulator X running on Direct X 9 and 10

I will confirm that you can only use DX 10 on Vista, and as Vista is apparently a very buggy system so people are wary of upgrading to it.

Also there was an announcement, I think at Leipzig, saying there will be a plugin allowing the Xbox 360 to peform 'to DirectX 10 levels'.

Vista isn't even out yet so it'll be very buggy. It will also be riddled with bugs at release but if people are realistic, it does so much that it will have to be buggy when it comes out. What with the new physics controls coming in to graphics cards, I am looking at upgrading my computer again substantially in March/April when I pay off what I did in June.

Regarding the physics aspect, people would be rather silly to buy the new physics-orientated graphics cards that have come out. Although they do better where physics calculations are plentiful, they are rather poor at all other games and by the time we all need grsphics cards which process physics calculations in this way, both NVidia and ATi will do the job properly on all accounts rather than specialising on one feature and watching others fall down the wayside.

Hope that all made sense, I'm annoyed at work and typing quickly without really thinking.

It says concept image at the bottom of the DX10 picture so I'm not sure what to expect.

I'm dreading the release of Vista :(
I read in a magazine, that the latest version doesn't even run smoothly on a AMD Athlon X2/4800 with a GeForce 7900 GTX and 2 Gigs of RAM.

That's me screwed, I've got an AMD Athlon X2 4800, GeForce7950GX2 and 2GB RAM. Still, I'm sure by release it will be fine. At least I hope so.

You have a monster of a PC Sweey. :shocking: I have a laughable PC with P4 1.8 Ghz, 384MB SDRAM and 128MB Geforce 4 Ti4800SE.

Vista has too many stupid visual enhancements. The desktop theme looks stunning, but the ALT + TAB 3D windows thing is pointless. It wastes a lot of RAM and system usage.

When is Vista due to be released?

Also take note that the 'DX10' image is created by an artist. Games running on Direct X 9c still look stunning, and Flight Sim wasn't known for beautiful graphics.

There was a video of it on the magazine's DVD. But Microsoft will hopefully get grip of the performance problems. I think you'll be more than fine though....

Yes, definetly. I think that sucks. They're releasing Vista in 6 different versions. Three buisness ones and three for home users. And I can get the new Aero themes for XP anyway, so there's nothing special about that. All it is, is just visually enhanced XP with an optimized netcode.

Yes Crysis does and it ended up having to be scaled down for it's PS3 release, and it still looks amazing.

Which build of the Beta? And did you have any problems with unsupported drivers for devices?
