Dear lord.

Our out-sourcing company are soooo good (note the sarcasm) that one user has Windows 7 because they forgot to uninstall it and replace it with Windows XP. Would you believe it then wouldn't talk to one of the Macs and I had to fix the bloody problem because they couldn't?

Better yet, over 70% of the PCs in head office came with Windows 7 pre-installed and they've all been downgraded when it isn't even necessary. I despair at that, let alone the situation where you work.

Get with the bloody times!

Good thing I don't work for the NHS...
All our new PC's arrive with Windows 7 pre-installed and if it wasn't for our operating software - which is so antiquated and poorly designed - we'd be using Windows 7. As it is we're stuck with 2003. Our IT department decided it might be wise for clerical plebs - ie. me - to have access to the office converter as opposed to asking our customers to save their files in 2003 compatible formatting. Embarrassing.

At one stage small sections of the company used Office 2007 and the majority were on 2003. Cue lots of problems from non-technical people failing to understand why something Mr X saved couldn't be opened by Miss Y.

We have that NOW. It is not possible for me to open my archived emails from W98. In fact if it is necessary to open anything of any importance I would have to contact our IT department.

What Da Hale! 4 days now I've not been able to view SkySports Score Centre on my laptop via either IE9 or Firefox. Instead of creating a pop up screen as it did in the past it creates a new tab which remains blank, seemingly because its blocked but I've not changed any of my settings. My flashplayer and the like are up to date so I'm somewhat bemused at why the blasted thing isn't working. I'm guessing one of my recent optional microsoft updates has disabled something but god knows what.

Have you tried it on Google Chrome?
Not yet ... I don't like Chrome from previous experiences with it and have deliberately avoided installing it.

I don't think its necessarily the internet interfaces, I think its a graphics issue, but fook knows what.

SRWare Iron instead of Chrome. Same engine, no privacy concerns.

Sky Sports cometimes uses a cross-reference/third-party javascript which certain security add-ons in Firefox (for example NoScript) don't like. For about 12 months during 2010 and 2011 I was unable to view the shit site in Firefox because of that.

I've got a problem with my Firefox.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

It just won't load properly. Facebook is also affected.

Updating Firefox from v8 to the latest one doesn't seem to help. Same goes to restarting my laptop.

Also, If I use Private Browsing, the pages will load properly.

EDIT @1721: Forget it. I've solved the issue -- Deleted the offline storage.

I still can't get SkySports Score Centre to work on either IE9 or FireFox. The flashplayer is up to date as is all my software so I'm betting on pop-up blocking being the answer. It must be rejecting the page. I'll install Opera and Safari to make sure.

I just downloaded Safari and tried to run SkySports Score Centre from that, nothing again just a blank page. I've not been able to view SSSC on my laptop since I installed this update. I've checked my java version and that is up to date so I'm out of ideas.

I've given up with SkySports Score Centre. I can get it on my phone. I can only assume a line of code needs adjusting in the command prompt to get the blasted thing working ... frankly I can't be bothered.

I'm struggling here with a particular issue.

I want to change some of my folder icons - to pictures I've saved. Yet this seems such a hassle now on Windows 7. I'm hoping someone can help me here. It appears as if it should be easy and simple enough, but it's not I don't think. I downloaded a program called "Folder Changer" as it allows you to customise folder icons, but the only problem is, when you add the custom icons (saved pictures), they get 'compressed' in this Folder Changer program and become tiny icons, which just makes the picture almost impossible to see when it's applied to the face of the folder.

Thanks in advance. This is really killing right now. Freakin' OCD.

Bloody offline cache was at 1GB! All I needed to do the whole time was clear the bloody thing

So I need a new laptop as my current one is falling to pieces. I am not the greatest in picking them out so could anyone advise me on selecting one?

I have a budget of around £450-600. I wouldn't like to spend the top end of that budget but if its worth the extra pounds i'd happily go for it.

The laptop needs to be relatively portable, by that I mean just so I can take it to Uni when I go and then bring it back with me every so often when I'm home to visit. So nothing which requires effort to bring back.

It will be mainly used for internet browsing, using Microsoft office, Playing FM, Music listening and movie watching etc...
I'd just like it to be able to do these things with no issues and also run together with having no considerable slow down of the laptop.

Hopefully the spec of the laptop will allow me to keep it for a few years (atleast for the length of time im at Uni) and have no issues on running some of the latest software to come.

As you can see i'm a total noob so hopefully someone can help.

Thanks!

17.3" is quite a large screen!

are these laptops worth the extra cost for the power it brings?
