Yeh man, Career mode fucking stinks of bad research, lack of effort and downright laziness, I didn't touch fifa's other game modes but from what others have said it doesn't get much better.

EA's problem is they make loads of half hearted game modes rather than getting the basics right, who gives a fuck about being a goalkeeper when player growth in CM is fucked and its still full of bugs.

Anyway, that was exactly my thought as the original poster.
There is nothing in this game that I consider as "engineered for freedom."

In my opinion PES 2011 is the worst game in its series. Even PES 2008 that I considered that bad is better than this game.

There is no 360 degree movement in this game. I played the demo on PC using an Xbox 360 controller and I notice absolutely no 360 degrees whatsoever.
FIFA 11 is the way to go in my honest opinion. If Konami ever want to return their fanbase back then they'll have to really bring in something revolutionary. Otherwise most people will stick to FIFA.

I doubt I will buy PES 2012 as I don't think it will be any close to the standard that FIFA 12 delivers!

Football is not a boring game! It's this game that creates that bad impression of football as a boring game!!!
I had an impression about basketball that it was a boring sport. But when I first played NBA 2K10 my opinions about basketball completely changed.

PES 2011 is terrible really. Even the PES fanboyism has died!

You trying to play PES like you do FIFA, that is your problem.

That is one of the best PES related comments that I have read in a long time. With PES11, Konami apparently tried to offer a more realistic video game, but visuals without substance is just boring.

The current state of football gaming is just very underwhelming. PES11, not only is it boring, but also a very unfinished video game. And FIFA11, feels more finished, but is completely dull.

Still flying the PES flag Klashman? :D

The game has it's issues but if someone criticize it out of ignorance i feel i need to say something.

PES 20111 isn't a easy game. there isn't a in death guide explaining everything. It takes time to adapt to and learn. My mate who's a FIFA only player, i play him at FIFA all the time, he's good, we have good games. I gave him PES 2011 to try and he was hopeless.

FIFA players expect every player to move smoothly with perfect precision an glide around 360 degrees. It's very awkward for them when they play PES 2011 where every player moves differently due to stat and only a few players are capable of moving around at a fast pace with such freedom.

Like in real life, can Shaun Derry move with the same freedom with the ball at a fast pace like Messi, no, PES 2011 demonstrates that very well :)

When you have people like Amateur spouting nonsense all the time who's hardly even played the game. You see someone who a least played the game almost inside out to give a better more informative view.

Think on that!

I think PES2011 is the best of the next gen section but that's not a sterling endorsement by any sense. I enjoy playing PES2011 a lot, but I can't actually own the game, the cursor glitching and frustrations annoy me to the point I question how a game could annoy me so much.

I'm such a massive (tool?) football fan that when I have PES I can play it easily for 6-8 hours a time! Its then I notice its frailties. It doesn't stop me going back to play it again but it would be daft to pretend that the AI doesn't 'cheat' in some ways.

I'm likely to be joining the writing team on the PESGaming blog so I'm interested in reading everyone's opinions on the forums.

Just noticed this thread. Good. Saves me from creating one. I haven't read through it yet but Jesus H. Christ this game is not engineered at all, let alone for a purpose. The fact that the first touch of the game (assuming you're playing at home) is pre-determined by the computer is just a euthamism for what you're about to witness throughout the rest of the game.

I missed an open goal today because of the AI deciding where to place my shot, I was a yard out and he opted for the bottom corner, where the defender was. Deflected out. From a yard out. This shouldn't happen, I can understand first touch shots can occasionally go off target despite the close range (a bit too much, on this game, I must admit) but taking over where I said to put it? If you're going to do that then at least use some common sense.

AI sliding tackles, that alse defies the "freedom", your corner taker running back to LB or RB and not being able to be selected, also defies "freedom", not being able to pass to a team-mate a few yards away, also defying the "freedom" this game claims to have.

The animations themselves defy this "freedom", when a player starts that stumbling animation when getting jostled, you might as well just admit defeat and realise the ball will either go out of play, or surrender to the other team. There's also the fact that this animation by opposition players means you're going to give away a foul. I imagine Konami's stance on this is just "deal with it".

Not to mention the amount of times the computer wants to take another touch or two before taking the shot you just told it to (two touches in the less common direction of time), or when the computer decides it just doesn't want to shoot (I just had a perfect through ball and pressed X to shoot, power bar filled slightly, and when I finally got the touch, the power bar disappeared, 'keeper got the ball). If a ball is cleared towards your defenders, you can't even trust them to control the ball without putting out for a throw in for God's sake. Not to mention the totally arsebaggery that is not being able to pass to a team-mate until you've took a touch of that loose ball.

I'm getting more and more wound up about this game as the days progress, there's just so much shite in it all. Common sense is non-existant and it looks like Konami are just going to keep on repeating this time and time again.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the fact that you're not allowed to put any power on a chipped pass most times if you're hitting it first time. When I first started playing I gave the ball away in dangerous areas as a result of this. Pathetic restriction. Also realised when I played a game here, there's hardly any freedom in picking what direction you want your first touch to be. Just as pathetic.

I hadnt played PES or Winning Eleven thoroughly since PSOne, played a little on PS2, been on FIFA 07, 08, 10, and 11
PES11 is better than FIFA in terms of realism, but it has too many bugs
The game in my opinion is too focused on the attacking aspects that it forgets football also involves defending. Having played FIFA I forgot that a football could actually spin when you pass it, so I can give that to PES11
FIFA is just a wonderfully decorated empty shell/
PES a very bad looking shell, but at least there is something inside the shell, even if it is a rotten egg LOL

I honestly think in terms of pure gameplay PES 2011 is the best football game ever made, although PES last gen had more play ability and was easier to master and was also a more polished game.

Just fucking ridiculous that unassisted cursor change is still fucked, semi not bad but your freedom can still be limited at times especially when playing a cross field manual pass.

A few balancing acts(some revolve around cursor change) also need to be removed.

I agree, if the cursor is fixed, and done to be like FIFA where you use the Right analog stick for totally manual cursor change, I would buy a $100 bucks for PES 2012

Went from one game where the cursor switching cost me a goal to another game where I came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 with the cheekiest of chips ... thats PES for you.

if the cursor switched auto you need to play semi auto and change it(semi auto ) every time you play because if you dont it will change cursor for you even though you had it on semi auto its so weird . that being said the cross field manual pass is a bitch to cut out its like it wont change to the guy in the middle

I think this pES is nice i play fifa 11 and pes 11 and really i dont see a huge difference between them actually i think the defense ( tackling) in fifa is better but overall pes wins my vote the main difference for me is Freedom.

In Fifa you cant even edit your formation. you cant tell your team anything really you have a little strat on the dpad but that is it. Pes gives you the freedom to change the style of play in your team even to the point that you can have strats for each 15 min section of the game. that is really cool. FIFA is more pick and play pes you have to think about set up WAY more. Part of the whole freedom thing.

MY complaint for pes is WHY did you take out regulate condition in ML, why did you take out the blue\white arrows for the attack or defense awareness of each individual, and why does the game still pause for reset on throw ins.....

I usually play pes on PC and to change a strat it was the L1 or Lb button now on xbox its this crappy select button this is the worse button as i have to kinda stop what im doing on the field to change tactics You should be able to map any action to any button that is true freedom on PC its that way......

even though this PES is great and only 30 bucks FIFA is way overpriced .
