England 3 Sweden 0
Man of the match: Owen

Report

The first of the friendlies has just taken place which turned out to be a completely one sided affair. The England side dominated play in a match which the swedes were incredibly poor. England created the early chances and Emile Heskey starting the match, headed just over after 6 minutes from a David Beckham freekick on the edge of the penalty box. England did not have to wait long for a breakthrough, and when Dyer dashed down the wing on the right hand side, he crossed for Owen who headed straight at the keeper who couldn't hold the ball. It spilled out to Scholes where the England midfielder made no mistake in knocking the ball in from close range on 13 minutes. After the goal it was all England, and they played with swagger and guile, a change from the days of long ball 4-4-2, and with the tactics of their Italian Coach, Lami, the football on display was fresh and exciting. Mid way through the first half, the keeper was tested on a number of occasions, with both Scholes and Owen going close. The swedes found a breakthrough on 31 minutes only for Henrik Larsson to shoot tamely at David James, a good chance wasted. Zltatan Ibrahimovic also had a decent chance only to head wide. With the half time whistle approaching, Owen Pounced to head in from a Beckham corner to make it 2-0.

The second half started much the same way as the first half ended. England created more chances, and with Sweden simply being outplayed in every department. 3 half time substitutions were made, with Beckham, Heskey and Scholes making way for Joe Cole, Rooney and Lampard. Even with these changes England kept up the pressure and Owen found a way through latching onto a pass from Gerrard, but his shot was saved well by Hedman. A mistake by Campball on 76 minutes, let Andersson through but the swede hit a speculative shot over the bar which was always rising. A minute later, another England attack ended in a third goal, when Rooney played in Lampard on the right and his looping cross met the head of Owen, who slotted home for his second, and England's third to kill the tie and giving the Swedish coach some food for thought with Euro 2004 fast approaching. England on the other hand could take alot of plus points from this performance and have fired out a warning that they mean business.

Germany 0 Denmark 1
Man of the match: Tomasson

Report

Football is often referred to by those who have a passion for it, as the beautiful game. This match sadly, was most definately not. Few chances were created by either side and the first opening came to Denmark, where Tomasson had a shot from close range saved by Kahn, but it wasn't enough to trouble the keeper. The game from then on was scrappy, slow paced and extremely defensive, with both teams battling mostly in midfield without getting forward enough and creating chances. It was Denmark who showed signs of getting a breakthrough, and their goal came from a corner, headed in by Tomasson. It wasn't the best of headers for which Kahn may have done better to keep out, however his contact on the ball wasnt enough to stop it passing the line and putting the Danes into a 1-0 lead. Just when it looked as if the goal was going to open up the game, it just didn't happen. Michael Ballack came close early in the second half with a free kick which curled slightly wide of Sorensen's post. That was however to be Ballack's last contribution to the game as on 64 minutes a crunching tackle on the midfielder saw the German stretchered off. Keven Kyranyi replaced the injured Ballack, but failed to make an impact. Klose came close with a run and shot late in the second half but could only find the side netting - it wasn't to be Germany's night and the game fizzled out with neither team finishing on a high. 0-1 it ended, with alot of head scratching to do before the start of the tournament.

Matches to be played:

friendly 4: Italy V Netherlands (postponed until further notice)
friendly 5: Czech Republic V Bulgaria
Friendly 6: Portugal V Germany
friendly 7: Portugal V Bulgaria

Note: Send only tactics of games that are about to take place, as I am getting tactics sent in, which are to be played somewhere down the line. This doesn't help much, as I need to focus on the games that are more recent. So far, only need:

Italy V Netherlands (tactics overdue from Netherlands manager)
Czech Republic V Bulgaria (awaiting Bulgaria tactics)

Sorry if you have sent me tactics that have been overlooked so far, doesn't mean I dont have them, just means as they seem to be flooding in, its difficult to keep on top of what is to be played now, and what is to be played later, cheers.

The Daily Telstar said:
The recently appointed Dutch national team coach today named his starting line-up for the upcoming friendly with another of Europe's powerhouses, Italy. There are only places on the bench for Ruud van Nistelrooy and Patrick Kluivert, who between them have netted nearly 50 goals this season. Arsenal's ex-goalscoring winger, Marc Overmars, also misses out on a place in the first team, with Boudewijn Zenden's and Andy van der Meyde's excellent domestic campaigns being rewarded with a starting place on either flank. Fiery midfielder Edgar Davids will play alongside the team's captain, Phillip Cocu, in a midfield that is sure to ruffle the Italians' oh-so sleek feathers. The provisional starting line-up contains a mix of players from different European leagues, with Dutch representatives currently playing in England, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands itself, and Turkey all likely to figure.

GK - Edwin van der Saar
DF - John Heitinga
DF - Frank de Boer
DF - Jaap Stam
ML - Boudewijn Zenden
MC - Phillip Cocu
MC - Rafael van der Vaart
MC - Edgar Davids
MR - Andy van der Meyde
FC - Arjen Robben
FC - Pierre van Hooijdonk

Il Corrierre Della Sera

"Italy coach surprised by nifty's strange decisions

Italy coach wr50l has admitted that he is surprised by nifty's decision to release his starting 11 before the match.
He said, "I didn't expect to be handed a team sheet less than an hour before the match, I can now look at his squad and try to expose any weaknesses I see. I will also be hopojng for a clean sheet as the two strikers I fear are on the bench. And I would have thought he would be looking to play a strong squad with expectations that that team would be his starting 11 for the competition itself."
Wr50l should not get too cocky, nifty is well known for his intelligence and will probably have a great reason for his early choices.
