Fifa 08 review the truth!! for the pro evo fans

yep its out been out awhile everyone having mix reviews about this game and seeing if fifa has got any closer to pro evo, and your'll have people yes its gettin there and then some sayin pro evo is losing its fight now fifa has become good, well from a hardcore gamer and a all rounder on consoles and games i have to say fifa not a chance wasnt worth it read my review tell me wot u think

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION.

well its that time of year again and fifa is out and pro evo is to follow, being a big soccer fan myself i decided to get it and see how this fifa has improved and play until pro evo comes out as i like them both. well been playing the game now since friday and im quite impressed graphics are top notch and the controls and the trick stick are also quite well implemented.

GRAPHICS

as its on next gen i've always been a big believer in great graphics and it has that perfect, there are times the frame rate is bad but mostly in the cut scenes but nothing that bothers me. the players look well and u can tell most of them who they are from a distance with the slight mistakes for some players the grounds look awesome and are captured very well ashame about the fans there just arent so good but we all can live with tht>
graphics: 9/10 always room to improve.

GAMEPLAY

we all know fifa has some bad gameplay and some times its the small things what annoy in this years fifa they have done a good job, the way players move and turn its almost life like the one big concern is the way they run just doesnt look realistic and they same to be goin half paced and not running but jogging. the passing is very well put in and frew balls have improved alot,

crosses are also good and the power bar is a great help this year around.

shootin also has become better with more skill involved to get the ball into the net the downside is the power is always there even off a toe poke when a player is on u which doesnt make for a realistic experience. trick stick now were talking this feature has been here before but this time it really is fun and works well on the pitch and at times is a good way of gettin passed people it takes awhile to master but u can pick it up from the get go, they really have made it so u feel like sometimes u need to use it to get passed a player. their is a downside like to all of fifa's stuff the trick is all well and good but it takes so long to twiddle your thumb and theres a delay on screen which makes for such a fustrating time,

the downside to all is that the response is weak sometimes ur passing it but it doesnt work straight wen u want it to and u lose the gap and the trick stick is very slow to implement on the pitch

goal keepers wow they never get this rite in fifa and again its not, they have improved with there dives and they make some cracking saves and u think o yes real, but then its one on one wiv the keeper ur keeping hold of triangle and ur keeper is keeping his distance wots goin on this gets annoyin and will and could fustrate people playing.

the career is same as last year with the lower league teams in as wel with abit more depth to this years one its good with the new formation with them changing it to a more pro evo being able to move players into the exact position u want the only thing wrong is that u only have a certain area u can put them if there in tht position. but over all its a great thing shame that the fa cups are played at there own ground and not been set to wembly.

be a pro well what can i say i've been addicted to it this is the reason to get this game its been done before but not in this sort of way, picking just one player in the team playing that roll, its brilliant and the camera works amazingly well when coming up to goal and its an over the shoulder sort of view with it swaying side to side like the head of the footballer. great thing and its worth buying this game for tht.

my view of the game is its a great improvement, but its just not on the same level as pro evo with the flexibility, the ball still feels like its stuck to your feet, the goalkeeper still has problems coming out, and the players run like there jogging. i hope this review helps people and i hope you comment on this and see what everyone else thinks.

i'll give the game a 7.0 even tho great graphics and a step up its still missing something the thing pro evo has when you score a goal u get an amazing feeling with fifa it always seems like o well nice one a goal, i still find this fifa abit to easy. very addictive tho esps be a pro but over all pro evo beats it even goin back a few years there never going to be better at all, same old fifa.

Good Review.....

You kind of mirror my own thoughts although you never commented on FIFA's vastly more complex array of outfield play possibilites.

Reponsiveness is a huge impedement in FIFA also to the extent that you dont really feel like you are 'on the ball' when you are in possession. Likewise, the defending player doesnt really win the ball back, its more that the attacking player loses the ball, or rather chooses the wrong options which results in him frantically mashing the buttons but losing possession nontheless.

In spite of ProEv just being the same old ProEv with the same old gameplay limitations, weaknesses, and glitches...it still has that magic touch.

As a game in itself, I would give PES 2008 9.5/10. However, for anyone who has been playing it for years it really only warrants an 8.5/10 as we are all getting a little weary and frustrated with the same old ProEv gaming limitations.....The series needs freshened up big style.

i have fifa 08 for the ps3, and i like it, i like the be a pro option in the game, its very fun and the challenges are good to play aswell, but the players likeness is horrible they look like shit and the numbers in the shirts are all fucked up! but the gameplay is good, not great like pes.
can't wait to play online though

I played 5 games in fifa08, don't know why but still it does not feel right. I really really don't like the style of play. Most of my friends play fifa. I play sometimes but just to pass the time. Gameplay of pro evo is far good and as long as the gameplays good I'am sticking with my friend for the past four years.

Heres my review that I posted on my site last week.

Damn, it seems that whilst I wasn't looking FIFA caught up with Pro Evo (or very nearly at least) I got this game yesterday because lots of my friends play it online and it is very very good.

It seems that they (EA) have taken a copy of Pro Evo 6 and dissected it in order to see what makes the Pro Evo series the best in the world. The game play now seems to be very similar to Pro Evo, with only the exception of the "through pass" somewhat sucking the play is fast and fluid (though I have a feeling the computer assist can be switched off of the through pass which would probably fix it) The problem with it is that say you press UP/RIGHT and through pass and it seems to pass to the nearest player who can be in the worst of positions in the complete opposite direction... There is also a great option to play with different control styles, by choosing 'New' control style you actually get the same controls from the Pro Evo series (it was always very confusing playing F.I.F.A after playing Pro Evo for so long) so this new addition is a welcome one for me.

Commentary is extremely realistic with the commentators talking about players stats and teams as if it were a real game and the tricks are nice (though I haven't got a real hold of the yet) There is also a new 'Be The Pro' mode where you take control of just one player in a match and try to have a good game with him, its pretty hard though rewarding when you do have a good game.

A problem that has always occurred through out the series also seems to have been fixed, it was always ridiculously easy to score, in this installment it is much harder. (on world class mode) Though I did notice that you seem to concede lots of goals from free kicks which can be annoying after defending well throughout a whole match only to concede to a free kick, oh well thats football though.

As per usual with the F.I.F.A series the graphics are spot on, in fact a friend came in and thought I was watching a real match at first, lol. Then comes all the other bells and whistles! There is an option to download the latest squad files (free of charge) so anytime there is transfer activity you can just download the latest team squads, I thought that was a cool addition, but thats not all, there is also the addition of being able to download podcasts from Talksport and other great footy stations and also see the latest football news from around the world all at the click of a button!

I can't say enough good things about this game and as you can probably tell I'm now a fan of the F.I.F.A series, thats not to say though that Pro Evo doesn't still rock and with only a month to wait until the new installment of Pro Evo its going to be a great battle for the top football game this year!

I give this game 9/10 its a must play for football/soccer fans.

Im personally really liking FIFA so far! Ive borrowed it for a few days from a friend and im not really bored of it yet which is a suprise!
Finding it quite hard to score which is always nice :D especially when you do eventually score.
Im planning on buying fifa aswell as pro but come next year PES must expand.

Thanks and yeah I agree, I wanna see a lot more changes from Pro Evo next year rather than the softly softly approach they have taken of late. I believe they should change the name to Pro Dripfeed Soccer, as there isn't much in the way of evolution, we are slowly being drip fed new stuff, PES2 was the last major evolution the game had in my opinion.

It still stands in my opinion that PES5 was the best of them all! If they niggly fouls were fixed it would have been perfect. they introduced the middle shot which was amazing :)
