Formation Problems - CB playing as AMF

Hi All

For whatever reason, my Left Sided CB is pushing right up into the attacking midfield position which means one of my CMF's are dropping into the CB position with disastrous results. The defender in question is both a CB & LB. The only way to stop him from being such a twat is to make him "mark" the Striker of the opposition.

Anyone else found this?

Yeah! I selected "Fan Cam" so I could see most of the pitch to see what the stupid fucker does!... as soon as the whistle is blown to kick off the game, he bolts up the pitch like Rick Waller chasing after an Ice Cream Van. It's ridiculous.

Does it happen in exhibition mode as well? And with other teams?

It could be the "attacking sense" or whatever that thing's name is. Press the down arrow when during a match to turn down the attacking style of the team. When it's too high it will make your CBs move up in the pitch to aid in attacking plays.

This is crazy! I made myself a user right now after "accidentally" finding your post. I have the exact problem in my ML save.

Just started season 3 with Parma, playing a 5-1-1-3 or 5-2-3 formation. I have three central defenders and two offensive wingbacks. I have not noticed it before but maybe it's something thats happened several times without my knowledge? My problem is my right central defender. When the CPU gets the ball he walks like an old person in midfield, thinking about the weather. Completely useless. With no interest in defending. When I win the ball back and counter, he joins his teammates in defense and perform a perfect three line backfield just like I expect and want. If I lose the ball the two other defenders jog further back while the right one starts his daydreaming again.

I have changed formation, created new ones, nothing changes. But hear this. If I change my left centerback with my right centerback, the problem area switches. So now my left centreback is useless.

The problem-defender is Jorge Mere and he has played all three seasons for my and has experience in my team and defence. If I sub him the problem is gone. (I think) Only way to make him work is as you said to use man marking.

He had no special trait/skill or any weakness I can see be behind this.

I had a similar problem in a match I played against the CPU earlier. Their centre back swapped positions with their left back for the whole match for no apparent reason so I was left with Benzema facing a tiny full back.

Their right back (not set to offensive full back) scored one goal and was their main attacking threat, going clean through a further two times. This game has serious problems

Yeah, this is it exactly. He wanders around whilst the opposition is in possession. My player in question is Maldini so his Defence Level is incredibly high.

Rebelinho... as far as I can tell, it only happens in ML. But it only started to happen in my 2nd Season.

I now know why. The reason is the defensive instruction "counter target". I have found out that in the start of every new season the game changes away my striker and puts a centre back as the active player. Without me changing anything. So it might be this. I just removed it and the problem went away.

YES, YES, YES!!!! Well done mate!
I also found that my Goalkeeper suddenly started to come up for ALL corners (even early on in a match), when I paused the game to check the formation, my Goalkeeper was one of the "Players to join attack"!
Weirdly I had to swap my GK with a CB before I could un-select the "Players to join attack" option.

I’ve been playing pes since ps1. I’ve never conceded so many goals especially on the counter attack. Defending is so broken in this game, from the bad player switch to the defenders running out of position leaving big holes in the back no matter what you try

Starting season 5 with Parma Calcio now and have finally decided to try out the fluid formation and some new tactics and formations. Crossing my fingers and hope I don't discover some new defensive problems, haha.
