Other big names worthy of a mention: Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5, Infamous, The Sims 3, Prototype, Left 4 Dead 2. Despite this being a PES website, I've omitted it based on the amount of negative reviews and feedback. I also left off Demon's Souls because it's not even been released in Europe yet (despite coming out in Japan last February!).

As of this minute I'd personally say Modern Warfare 2, but I'm not going to vote yet because when I get round to the delights of Uncharted 2, it could well surpass MW2.

EDIT: I've forgotten Forza 3 on the poll. Urgh. Cheers whoever.

I've enjoyed playing Modern Warfare 2 recently, getting into it now unlike when I first started, but for me FIFA 10 gets my vote. Very good game.

I liked Fifa 10 but if it is the game of the year then it has been a poor year for gaming. The only other game I've played from the list is CoD: MW2 but I shall be purchasing at least 3 of the other games listed so will probably come back to this thread in a few months time.

I would rate MW2 above Fifa 10 by the way.

I couldn't say which I enjoy more, CoD or Fifa. The former is certainly a better game, far more complete. Fifa 10 is the best next generation football game but there's a lot that could be improved.

I still haven't played Among Thieves due to MW2 and coursework. Will start it in 2 weeks, as I would have handed in said coursework.

Call of Duty MW2. Good single player mode. But the online modes are addictive and far better.

I'd have to go with Modern Warfare 2 as well to be honest. In terms of sheer addictiveness and fun, it has to be. Online is second to none, and when playing with friends it can descend into pure hilarity. This is all because the gameplay is just that damn good.

I'm quite surprised I don't see a few more games there, such as UFC 2009 Undisputed, Street Fighter IV and PES 2010. I personally think PES has stepped up this year, but as I've said, unfortunately I seem to be in the minority. I'm just thankful you didn't include the monstrosity that is Beatles Rock Band.

Empire Total War. FIFA 10 is nice but not fantastic, and I haven't played any of the others.

Dragon Age: Origins. I also have to say that Risen, which I'm currently playing, has been horribly underrated by a lot of people. I'm addicted to the bloody thing.

Hats off to the Fallout 3 DLC released this year as well, absolutely amazing bar the last one.

I go for Assassin's Creed II.

Simple, it had got a huge improvement over number 1. Fantastic game.

:D

Football Manager 2010. I don't get what's with all of the hype for COD Modern Warfare 2. Its a good game but I wouldn't call it 'the greatest game ever' like some people seem to be doing.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Easily.

I think Fallout 3 would be my second favourite game of 2009 and Left 4 Dead 2 not far behind that.
