Goalkeeper Development

On player development curves, when a player gets to 95 for any given ability category, he then seems to have to get a much higher match rating in order to get the development points for that category at the end of a match.

Which brings me to the issue of goalkeepers, I've got to the point now where I have a pretty good squad and I win the majority of matches without conceding too many goals. But even though I'm keeping clean sheets my goalie never seems to get more than a 5.5 or a 6. So when it comes to the development points at the end of the game anything at 95 or over is blacked out and he doesn't get any points.

Does this mean that its pointless trying to develop a good keeper from a young age (I signed Lev Yashin at aged 18)? Cos it seems like he'll just get stuck at 95s for response, defence, keeper skills etc.

Is it better to just sign an older goalkeeper who may not last as long but already has the stats up around the 98-99 mark?

I like your logic. That seems to make sense to me.

But you have to keep in mind off-season training will help the young goalkeepers and having to keep up with replacing old keepers can be a pain.

Once a keeper reaches 95 on the development sheet, he'll have to have 6.5 or higher match performaces if his 95+ stats are to increase.

That's a general rule - it also applies to outfield players.

The general consensus is that it gets harder to develop your players once they get 95 stats.

Hmm sounds like I might be on to a loser with young Yashin, although he has played pretty well.

Maybe If I look at one aged around 27-28 with the stats already pretty well developed, he might last 6-7 seasons at a high level.

I think that player rating thing needs looking at for the next version of the game though, cos it's near on impossible to get a rating of more than 6 for your defenders and goalie, so they are really hard to develop beyond 95 for anything.

It seems the game only dishes out good ratings to goalscorers, which is a bit oversimplistic really, it should rate defenders and goalies higher if they keep clean sheets, make a lot of succesful tackles etc.

If only. if you defend well & shut out the oposition on a regular basis your keeper will not improve enough to be worth the effort.

Buy old & good & play until retirement i say. You can easily pick up keepers on a free at the end of the season & hey - they're cheap!!!

Looks like thats the way I'll have to go if I want a top class keeper.

Its a shame though, I hope they improve the ratings/development system for the next one.
