good value players to sign

I've only recently started a ML (I have only recently got the game, lost it's priority after last years), I'm in Febuary of season 1 with Everton. I have been using the "Trade trick" for some players to get them at a more realistic price - sure it's cheating but it's still a "feeling my way back into the game" phase, and probably won't be my main ML - they're usually custom teams.

I have signed some good players, some of them as a cheap punt with no real drawbacks. I played A. Mousa for a few games and now I don't know how Lukaku or Eto'o can start over him. He is lightning fast but also strong and he can finish too. He's CF but can also play SS, LWF, LMF, RMF, and oddly, RB (yet he can't do RWF?!) He has 80 overall and is early 20's, even without the trick I don't think he'd break the bank.

Some others include Varane - he is the only player to get the "verge of a breakthrough" message and went from 85 to 90. M. Depay, he's awesome, young LWF, 83 overall. M. Niang CF - bought on the sole basis of his stats and ability in last years, he has took a hit at 75 ovr but at 18/19 he's definately one for the future. Surely everyone knows about Marco Veratti by now.

Can I ask some of you guys who are a good few seasons in how some players are doing please?

Ross Barkley, Christian Atsu, and John Stones at Everton, Eric Dier at Spurs, Jordan Ibe at Liverpool?

Depay is great, but hits his peak quite early.
Veratti is at about 93!
Barkley develops until about 25, 85 rating.
Atsu has quite an early peak, but should go to mid-high 80s.
Dier reaches about 83.
Ibe is at about 80 in mine, half way through 6th season, still developing.

Not sure about the rest off the top of my head. Of course, it could be completely different in yours.

I've had a look at Niang but I think you can get better players for his age and stats. I'm also interested to see how Ibe turns out in my save after some good recent displays for Lfc (in real life)
A few good young players for you to sign who will develop into quality players are:
Martial
Talisca
Halilovic
R.Zivkovic
Goretzka

I signed Martial on a free towards the end of my 1st season (as well as Rafael).

James McCarthy has given me a little bit of a headache, I play 1 DMF (Verratti 84), 1 CMF (Barkley 81) and 1 AMF (rotation) but McCarthy "showd signs of improvement" and went to 84 for CMF. I have been playing Barkley in AMF (where he drops to 79) since this happened to accomadate McCarthy, but I have just signed Christian Eriksen for AMF to come in January. I don't want to stop playing Barkley though.

Martial is a fantastic young fwd, progressing nicely for me as a 3rd choice fwd. Up to 78 after signing him, like you, on a free but think i'll loan him out next season to gain more 1st team experience.

Eriksen will be a good signing for you, never owned him myself but he's got bags of potential and at his age is only going to improve. If you play him AMF you can play Barkley CMF and Verratti DMF just behind Eriksen and get the best of both!

James McCarthy, great signing. As Tiago as not yet enough for my needs I got him during the Winter window, and brought him in with the 9k transfer trick for around 9m€, a more realistic price. He's 28, but still not declining, so it can be considered a long term buy. My kind of CMF, strong and holds quite a lot of stress, more than decent passing, fast, good tackling. He's not that expensive at this age, demands around 2.9m€ in wages, so if you get him quickly in the begining he surely won't ask for much.

Salih Uçan is good. Rate 87 OR in season 6. I've just signed him, he's due to join at the end of the season. Don't know why I signed him..... go a fuck load of midfielders already, plus Tielmans will return from a loan spell with a stats boost (he's now rated 86).

In my new ML (only just started), I signed a player called I. TOURE from Dordecht. He's 19 and rated 81!

New midfielder, great partner for Will Hughes. Similar style and physique. Jeff Hendrick, from Derby County as well. My third player from them :smug:, I guess they have a very good youth team?

Another player that has been impressing me is John Stones, realy strong on duels, even against Rooney he wins most times. Excellent passing and positioning, decently fast. Great margin for progression.

I've never bought Kane, but in my ML save (started before the latest updates, mind you), he has only risen up to 72 OVR and has been signed by lowly Osasuna.

I'd recommend signing Luque (SS) from Internacional - starts at 74 OVR and has already went up to 85 in my books. His speed is incredible, although his finishing sometimes leaves something up to be desired.

Crislan (CF), from Atletico Paranaense, is also a very good one, specially at the beginning of your journey if you started your save with a weaker team - very cheap, starts at 73, has reached 80 OVR for me already :)

Not really, they're all a bit meh. Even Butland doesn't turn out that great.

Decided to expand my age range for GKs up to 26 years. Found two "meh" options: McCarthy from QPR and a lad named Smithies from Huddersfield. Not that different, but one costs 5 times the other.

Also, does anybody know if Consistency affects keepers as much as I think? I only look at any keeper if his consistency is above 75, otherwise I won't even check the other stats.

FYI,

Di Natalie is 91 at 20yo (still improving). I play him as an SS, which lowers his ovr, but he makes unreal runs from that position

Gerrard is 87 at 21yo (still improving) Makes a ton of tackles and has great control

Barry is an 86 at 21 as well. I use him interchangeably with Gerrard. They both have the same work rate and almost never get tired.

Ter Stegen is a 92 at 26 and (still improving) He is a BIG surprise, since I hardly ever played him. He rode the bench for a few seasons and would only play when De Gea needed a break.

De Gea capped at 28yo and a 94 overall

Lusioa (sp?) (the Brazilian) is a fantastic pickup for me at CB. He is fast, very strong in the air and makes fantastic defensive choices.

Ter Stegen has about 7points higher than De Gea on consistency, but I have never seen that it matters in games. They both have great 1v1 stats. De Gea has 99 GK and Ter Stegen has 94 and handles higher balls better. In real game play, De Gea is still the clear choice. Ter Stegen has gotten MUCH better, but De Gea seems to just react so much quicker no matter the stats.

CoachBobby Alright, thanks for the info.

Following this matter I went surfing the interwebs for an explanation of what the stats mean. And these are my findings:

- Abilities are the ones that we can change. These determine how good the player is.
- Combined Abilities is some shit Konami invented that shows how good the player supposedly is. This is, they are just an indicator of the players ability. Concerning goalkeepers, the 5 or 6 CA specific to them are just some numbers calculated from the Goalkeeping, Saving and such stats, using some seriously fucked up method.

In summary: I never looked to CA in field players, or at least never choose them from there. Keepers is the same, those numbers only give us an idea of what the player's overall ability is, but more specific (while being just as useless).

Interestingly though, CA also factors in the effects of the 'Player Type' and various skills that a player has, which is beyond and above the ability stats. eg. Being a Destroyer gives a huge bonus to the work rate CA.

Even worse than that... I don't know how I can still get surprised by Konami's stupidity... Jumping affects Work Rate (not completely sure), and prepare yourselves... Ball Winning affects by an awful lot the Physical Strenght value. This way a CF can't have high vaues in Physical Strenght. And brings another thing, it seems like every position regards all abilities the same way, this is, Defensive Prowess affects CBs and CFs the same amount.

Also, having the Long Pass Expert card gives the player 5 extra points in Long Passing CA, while remaing with the same passing Abilities.

I just don't understand the whole calculation process. Like you said Rebelinho, a lot of it doesn't make sense.

Take Berhami (sp?) as an example. He is a destroyer, had good overall stats, but is just terrible for some reason even though I have played him for 3 seasons. A. Correa has fantastic individual stats as well as CA, but is horrible for me as well.

A 16yo Yaya Toure, with a 73CA just tears up the midfield with crappy stats. Another one is a 16yo Drogba. His individual stats are pretty bad, as is his CA, but playing him is pretty unreal. He scores tons of goals, wins balls back all the time.

It may just come down to Konami saying, "Well, this player will reach a high CA as well as stats, so no matter what abilities we give him right now, he will still be great even at 16."

I have no idea.
