Grounds you have been to

You surely are planning on attending some games in 2014, CDDRodrigo?
Certainly, next year I'll probably buy the tickets already before they run out.

Hopefully I'll go to at least 3 games, even if I don't get to see our team itself.

I've been to well over 100 different grounds, but the majority of them are non-league and I couldn't name them all. Needless to say, I have seen some shitholes. Mark Williams doesn't know how lucky he has it.

The Emirates Stadium
Millenium Stadium
Old Trafford
Wembley (old)
White Hart Lane
Stamford Bridge
The Valley (Charlton Athletic - proper shithole)
Craven Cottage
Underhill (Barnet)
The Harry Abrahams Stadium (Wingate & Finchley's home ground - played there twice)
Newport Stadium (actually, I think it may have been called The Old Spotted Dog Ground when I went - not sure)
Penydarren Park (Merthyr Tydfil)
City Ground (Nottingham Forest)
Meadow Lane (Notts County)
Upton Park (Boleyn Ground)
Brisbane Road (Leyton Orient)
Stadio San Paolo (Napoli)
Bukowa (GKS Katowice)
Silesian Stadium (Polish national team)

There are more from league football that I can't remember.

Would've been able to add Horsham FC's home ground, Gorings Mead, to the list, but unfortunately the game got called off due to a frozen pitch a while ago. That would've been my most recent live football.

How come you've been to so many lower league stadiums? Who've you been watching?

Absolutely all sorts.

Before I started playing 11-a-side Saturday football, I used to want to go and watch a live game every week. Unfortunately, tickets to Arsenal are (a) expensive and (b) hard to come by, so I satisfied my footballing need with a random non-league game. My mum's boyfriend is a Newport County fan, so often it would be whoever they were playing away, but if they were at home we would just scour the fixtures and pick one.

The most memorable fixture was one I stumbled across by chance. It took place at Ewen Fields, although that was not the destination we set out to arrive at. We went to a game somewhere nearby to Hyde FC, but that game was called off for reason I cannot remember. Something stupidly non-league, like the referee was taken ill and there was no replacement on call.

So we headed down to Ewen Fields, the home of Hyde FC, on the off-chance they would be at home. They weren't. But I'll tell you who were at home. Their reserves.

They played out a 5-4 defeat with someone who I can't remember, including one absolute belter from about 35 yards. In amidst the goals, there was also a punch-up that involved one of the linesmen and the referee and at least 15 of the players. There were 5 sendings off. I got more touches of the ball than many of the players. The attendance was 8.

Proper, proper football. If I had my boots, I literally could've probably got a game.

Definitely Maybe

I'll try from memory, but will no doubt miss a few, I'm sure my Dad took me to more Scottish lower league grounds when I was a boy, probably some English ones too...

Hampden (Scotand National/Queens Park)
Ibrox (Rangers)
Parkhead (Celtic)
Love Street (St Mirren's old one)
Fir Park (Motherwell)
Palmerston (Queen of the South)
Firhill (Partick Thistle)
Bloomfield Road (Blackpool - played there too)
Deepdale (Preston NE)
Maine Road (Man City's old one)
Old Trafford (Man Utd)
Anfield (Liverpool)
Brunton Park (Carlisle)
Burnden Park (Bolton's old one)
Filbert Street (Leicester's old one)
Ewood Park (Blackburn)

Plenty of non-league places not worth a mention, plus...

First Union Center (Philadelphia Flyers Ice Hockey, 76ers Basketball - Now called Wells Fargo Center)
Campbell's Field (Camden Riversharks, New Jersey, Baseball)

If we were gonna mention places we'd gone to when there wasn't a game on, it could get silly, but Parc Des Princes & Pasadena Rose Bowl still deserve a mention on that front I reckon!

We lived in Lancashire for a good chunk of my childhood and my Dad took me to a lot of games (it was much cheaper then) One of his work colleagues was a big Bolton fan, so we went to a good few. We're talking over 20 years ago so I can't remember specifically what games off the top of ma head, but I do have a pile of programmes somewhere. I've seen the Reebok Stadium from the outside, but never been in....

On that topic, despite what I said in my last post, some stadiums visited when not in action are actually worth mentioning I reckon, as long as we don't go on about the likes of Bolton (no offence) Inverness or Stranraer...

I already mentioned Parc Des Princes & Pasadena Rose Bowl, Stateside I've also been to...

Yankee Stadium (NY, Baseball)
Veterans Stadium (Philly, NFL & Baseball - now gone)
Wrigley Field (Chicago, Baseball)
Candlestick Park (SF, NFL & Baseball)
Madison Square Garden (NY, Ice Hockey & Basketball)
Mellon Arena (Pittsburgh, Ice Hockey - now gone)
Seahawks Stadium (Seattle, NFL)

Plus a couple of other European ones worth mentioning....

Stadio Olimpico (San Marino!)
Il Colosseo, The Colosseum (Rome, as in the ancient one from Gladiatorial days)
Il Anfiteatro, The Ampitheatre (Pompei, where Pink Floyd played)

OK the last two are really starting to stretch it, and so is San Paolo, Napoli, which I flew over a few days ago, but it was only a couple of days ago and it looks awesome from above!

I loved our old programmes. I can still remember some of the front covers.

Bernaneu (Went for an El Classico game a few years back now. Madrid had just won the league and Barcelona gave them a guard of honour. Fantastic stadium and atmosphere)
Estadio Jose Alvalade (Sporting Lisbon battered us 3-0 there a few years back, weird coloured seats makes the ground look like its full!)
