Help with off the ball runs!!!

Can anyone explain to me how to do these correctly!?
I've scoured through the internet/YouTube and it says to do an off the ball run you use L1 and use the right stick in the direction of the player you wish to make the run. (fifa controls and also assisted settings with regards to runs)

Problem is when I do this it gives me a cursor above the selected players head and they just jog forwards not running... Which really is no help at all... Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I play with fifa controls too. I thought it was R2 but it s different then fifa. You have to double tap and release double tap and release and keep repeating

Edit: i m sorry you meant off ball? Off ball is same just keep pushing the R2 not double tap and release. Above is for on ball

Do you mean teammate control? They jog forwards not running happened when the players don't have any stamina left.
If you want complete control over the off the ball players you can also change the teammate control options to manual in the user setting.
