im looking forward to half life 2 just a tiny bit more. I played them both and they are both 10/10
Half life 2 you have to use your head more but doom 3 is really freaky. Far cry is class!!

Who bought it at home matt? Or are you talking about the demo? 'Cos I was totally blown away by FC. Those who said it is the best single player experience since HL may have overstepped the mark (Deus Ex is the shiznit as far as that goes), but it is definitely the best PC game I have played for a long, long time...

i wasn't a fan... no one has bought it.. i had the demo.. and i was extremely disappointed... i dont reckon it is in the same league as HL2, Doom3 or even stalker oblivion lost... the graphics are awesome but... that is about it.. the AI is not a good as it was said to be.. and sniping is pathetic.. after the recoil of one shot u have no idea where u ended up looking in relation to where u started off... and all the weapons are extremely inaacurate... i am not a fan of Far Cry

Hmmm, try the full version, it is much much better than the demo I played, and it sounds as though the demo you played is worse still.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R (insert latest subtitle here) is gonna be awesome, I hoep it doesn't suffer from overhype or futurecreep. It should be the next big thing.

DIII will hopefully also be great; I haven't been scared in a FPS since the original AvP, so hopefully DIII remedies this.

HL2 needs no description, hype, or paragraph explaining anything about it from me. Let me just say, BRING IT ON!!

I'll have a shiny new A64 system to play it on (of course, assuming HL2 comes out in the next 6 months...)

If you've only played the demo of Far Cry you can't base your opinion on that. I wasn't a fan of the demo really but after playing the full game to death its amazing. The only thing that lets it down is the storyline. For a developers very first game with their very own engine this game is amazing.

Look how long Half Life 2 and Doom 3 have been in production as well, they're still not out for a few months, there's still a chance they will be shitty, which i doubt but there's still a chance.

Yeah I know.. shockin' turn around isn't it? After advising everyone who would listen to go P4, I am abandoning you all in favour of AMD. Oh well, I want 64bit goodness, and bang fo buck, the A64-3000 just pips the P42.8-3.0

No, but it does have the memory controller on it, and has no need for a seperate north/south bridge setup, hence increasing all sorts of things. I direct your attention to xbitlabs' review of the nforce3-150 etc., when the nforce3-250 hits the shelves, the A64's will be even further in front of Intel's latest sub-$400 cpu.

However, as far as photoshopping, decompressing (or is compressing?) and multitasking goes, the P4's are ahead... but I don't often compress 2gb of raw data into *.rar files, nor do I do alot of photos'ing...

And just to remain relevant, um, er, HL2 is teh r0x0rz ur s0x0rz 0ff j00 g@mer.

:p

Athlon or P4, doesn't matter - booth are +/- the same (in terms of performance), but far more important is the graph. card. Btw. for todays games is still G4 4200-4800 Ti good enought.

Listen to you -=101st=-, you FANBOY!! Crikey, remember, until I twisted your arm towards Intel, you were looking at getting an XP... you know you were, don't deny it biatch.

And A64's have hypertransport, that has to be better than hyperthreading... because it says sport, and everyone knows that sport is better than reading lol ;)

ColdER, yep, a GF4 ti4200 or better will still certainly cut the mustard for playing almost anything these days. And seeing as it is only ~$aus270 for a Radeon 9600pro, an upgrade to a midrange DX9 compatible card is an easy step to make for just about everyone.

But I wouldn't go so far as to say that the GPU is far more important than the CPU. After all, a raddy9800xt won't help me play farcry, cos it would be paired with a Duron 1ghz. You gotta find the balance. And seeing as the GPU only gets *really* used when you're playing gfx intensive games, I think it makes more sense to ensure you have a good CPU in order to ensure that your overall system performance is good.
