Honesty about the Low Shots from the CPU...

I've looked on the pro-evo, and the pesfan forums and other people are now complaining about those cheap low shots that come from the CPU. They often occur near the end of a game to make it a draw or a win for the CPU's team. Those are the only goals that the CPU scores against me, in each and every game!

Perhaps some people have got 'special copies' of the game where the CPU AI scores all kinds of spectacular goals?? Let's have some honesty, even the CPU teams in FIFA 16 score some really good, and VARIED goals. Konami will never improve the game if people make excuses for their careless, lazy, cheap programming logic. All Konami care about is MyClub- they've shown that by the imminent launch of a free, cut-down version of the game to accrue more money via 'MyClub'!

I don't mind the CPU scoring, I love competitive games, but seeing the SAME goal go in all the time is just down right pathetic!! Even 1990s arcade games had better computer scoring variation.

Again: Full manual/'Superstar' setting. My games are mostly pretty close, I know how to defend- I just wish my 'keeper was programmed properly to save those stupid low shots into the corner of the net!

I couldnt agree more. For the last week ive been playing PES 2011, 2014, 2015, FIFA 2014, i even bought 2016 and those games have random shots from the CPU.

I installed the latest patch played one game against Leicester and the CPU had two shots and scored two goals into the bottom corner. So i switched it off.

Like yourself i dont mind CPU scoring but please have different types of shots. Its a game breaker for me. I played FIFA 2014 and was quite refreshed to see Hazard control and volley in against me from the edge of the box. Then in the last minute he tried a over head kick which went out for a throw in. It was good to see.

Im trying to get into PES 2014 now to get my footy kick this year.

I played the demo of PES 2014 that I've have on my old Xbox 360 yesterday (I did have the full game at one time)- and the CPU team scored a screamer- the ball hit the crossbar, bounced on the ground, and went in. That's the sort of thing that is missing from this year's rather sterile version of PES.

I've ordered PES 2013 for $14, and will enjoy the 50 stadiums (and stadium creator) that it has, and CPU variety in scoring. I've pretty much had it with PES 2016- it's so obvious that Konami only care about raking it in online via MyCrap®.

You are right, those CPU goals are indeed a game-breaker- talk about cheap, scripted programming! This year the game feels so sterile and devoid of 'personality', so to speak. This is the first year where I've gone specifically onto a forum to voice my grievances about either PES or FIFA. This is a bullsh!t year for football games! I've altered settings, changed this configuration and that... I was right the first time I traded the game... but I thought the December patch would fix the glaring issues. Wrong!

The refereeing is still a joke- it's like Konami tried to create Street Fighter PES- casual, arcade football fans will love it of course.

I really enjoyed playing the PES 2014 demo again, for me it underscores (no pun intended) what PES 2016 is lacking. I bet next year, more people will admit that PES 2016 is crap (offline)!

PES 2016 is the new PES 2008. / -:

Have you tried PES2015?

I have recently gotten into it and I actually find it better than PES2014 :)

Once the team's tactics are changed to "Counter Attack" instead of "Possession" it makes such a big difference in the way the CPU plays.

I bought PES 2015 at launch (I'll never learn), and I hated it to be perfectly honest. That's before any patches were released, and I didn't alter any of the team tactics at the time. Funny you should mention the changing to 'counter attack', I just read about that on Operation Sports (only a few minutes ago).

I'm waiting for PES 2013 to be delivered this week, I chose that as so many people have slated PES 2014 (which I thought was a 'reasonable' game at the time, but I never played it all that much really).

I may get PES 2015 as it's really cheap, as the PS4 is in the living room (bigger television/surround system), and I'll play PES 2013 on the Xbox 360 in the bedroom. My wife uses the Xbox 360 the most, playing Minecraft (yuck(!!)).

I thought Coronation Street had bad scripts, but PES 2016 really takes the biscuit!

I hated PES2015 too when I first got it a year ago. But started playing it a few weeks ago and I'm loving it now. My problem was I was so into PES5 and any game with a lack of fouls I refused to play. But now I'm finding PES5 too easy after 10 years of playing it so I've been trying different ones.

I actually started playing with the D-Pad (the stick has stopped working) with assisted passing and manual shooting. I'm finding it such a challenge in my ML.

You mentioned scripting but I don't notice it that much but I suppose it depends what level you play. I'm on Professional at the moment as I find the higher ones too hard. People say that PES5 was scripted but I always felt I could fight against it. For example the CPU would have corner in injury time which quite regularly led to a goal but with a lot of concentration the corner could be defended.

In fact I find PES2103 the worse when it comes to scripting because the ball seems to have no contact with the players and just goes through people's legs and lots of bodies and into the net. What confirmed it for me was when I was winning a game and i was time wasting in injury time, I passed the ball back to the keeper and he allowed it to go out for a goal kick even though the ball was right to him he just allowed it to go out. The the CPU scored from the corner, it was really frustrating.

(Update)

I'm having a great time with PES 2013, it feels much more like a simulation than PES 2016 does. Konami put a lot more effort into the CPU AI and the whole ML experience. The CPU scores with a much greater variety of goals; the referees call fouls/give cards; the goalkeepers are great! I don't regret going back to PES 2013 one bit- good riddance to the abomination that is PES 2016!

I bought myself a cheap copy of PES13 on your advice. Only problem is i cant load an option file now and will have to Edit the English teams names and some of those fake teams like Xhamogol .
PES16 is starting to piss me off again big time after a promising start to a Master League, what is it with those CPU goals into the bottom corners and the totaly hopeless Goalkeeprs on your team that let in EVERYTHING thats in the box in some games. Tottaly unrealistic.

I went back to PES2013 to play a few games. Enjoyed it initially because the shooting is better but then started getting frustrated with the cursor changing which was making it difficult to defend.

Went back to 2015 and i am still enjoying it. The build up from the AI is excellent once you change some of the team's tactics. Each team plays differently, low crosses, high crosses, they play through balls but not as frequent as 2013. Some keepers are great some are not. The only thing i dont like so much is the shooting but i am editing the stats, -10 from finishing, -5 from dribbling and ball control to each player. This has improved the game, although it takes time.

The best thing I did with PES 2016 was to sell it to amazon.com!

As for PES 2013, I'm just playing the Spanish league, as all of the stadiums are there for that particular league. I'm playing as Deportivo de La Coruña (rather than a big team). I don't care that the squads are 'out of date'- I'm playing it solely for the gameplay. I think it's great seeing players at their old clubs, nice and retro. I'm still really enjoying it- I'm playing it full manual with the 'Player' camera. Most people can't stand to play that way but I find it to be more realistic, and the graphics look phenomenal on a large HDTV (after calibrating the television display).

You can use option files on the Xbox 360/PS3/PC (I just haven't bothered)...

I have cursor switching set on 'semi assist'- no problems defending. I'm enjoying some really good matches, it's a much better game than PES 2016. PES 2016 is like PES with its 'soul' ripped out of it!

Konami are following EA Sports' lead, it's all about conning people through MyClub (/FUT) these days. I think they intentionally wreck the offline modes so that people will be pretty much forced to play those online modes if they wish to 'enjoy' the game. I'm having far more fun on my Xbox 360 than my PS4! I'm building quite a nice library of classic games (and am having FUN with them).

Yeh that's fair enough as long as you have fun with one of them :D.

I play 2013 with semi assist, it's fine in midfield but a few times it happened when defending the through ball. I find it annoying because after a lot of practice I can defend pretty well but when the player gets passed and I try to bring the next defender but it selects one further away and they score, it can be annoying because from no fault of my own (apart from the fact that I let him get passed the first defender )

I also find that they play the through ball quite a lot, whereas in PES2015 it is a more varied attack.

I agree with what you say that they are 'forcing' people to play Myclub. I will just stick to editing 2015 but I just wish there was an editor for PS3 to make it easier.

If/when I become tired of PES 2013, I may well get PES 2015 (especially as it will be dirt cheap by then- it already is really). I'm even thinking about getting PES 5 ('Winning Eleven 9' over here) for the PC. I'm in a phase of trying to acquire classic games, I want to sell the PS4 but my wife won't let me. We have fun playing the Rory McIlroy PGA game- but I recently bought a used copy of TW 13 Masters Edition, and it's like with the older PES games, there's a lot more depth to it!

PES 5 was an absolutely brilliant game in its day, PES 2013 is the nearest to that as far as I'm concerned. PES 5 only had 8-way movement, but it was (and still is) better than anything EA Sports cares to produce! It would be interesting to play it again...

A word of warning, just make sure that you get PES2015 before Konami stop the updates for it. I know on PS3 they stop them about 2 years after release so you cannot get the latest patch and gameplay fixes. May be different on Xbox though.

Yes I have to say that PES5 is the best for me. Me and my brother still play it together and because we are at the same level the games are always tight. Let me know if you want a recent option file, I used to edit it until about last year with some stat adjustments to make it more difficult. But because I have played it so much over the last 10 years, the CPU is no more a challenge.

Yeah, I did think about that (update time-frame)- I have a PS4 as well.

I got the data packs for PES 2013 the other day, I didn't think they'd still be on Microsoft Live. Thanks about that PES 5 option file, I think I'd be more inclined to get PES 5 over 2015. Hopefully it would work with the North American version (WE9). I looked at a few videos on Youtube- brought back some memories! It still looks good today, a game ahead of its time, I suppose!

That's the thing- longevity- the iterations today are sorely lacking in it!
