Just curious. How many players do you have your ML squad? Does it matter if players dont get any games? Will they still increase? I only keep 24 players and some players still dont get a lot of games.
I'm in the summer transfer window and recently bumped into the 32 player limit (Premier League). I've recently sold two players and am now contemplating picking up the two free out of contract players on my negotiations page. Though I know they are only at the level that I would be selling them on again. They have current valuations of about £6M each.
And yes, players who don't play still get the training increases, but they obviously don't get the match day increases. I have sent 3 players out on loan for each of my two seasons so far and one of them had a good spell while they were away, which got mentioned in the "news" section. However, the other 5 didn't. A couple of them dropped below their projected progression line, while the others followed it. Considering most players who stay in your squad actually out perform the projected line I didn't see any point in loaning players out, unless you need to save on salary costs.
I tend to prefer 11+11+3/4, with the 3/4 being one player for each part of the field (1 defender, 1 midfielder and 1 forward) capable of doing all positions, and possibly a third keeper.
Ali do you use them all or just can't get rid of them?
I have found that loaning players to teams in the 'Other' section or the ones in groups like 'Other European teams' is a huge waste of potential.

Did you know that loaning players out to teams that do not play in any league has a detrimental effect as the players do not get any noteworthy match xp?

I do enjoy loaning teenage players out (sometimes for 2 or 3 seasons in a row) and seeing how they've developed, but only if I know they're not going to get a game in my team for some considerable time. Then they're ether good enough to stay and be part of the squad or get sold on.
I find that if a player 'flourishes' while on loan he'll only increase +2 in OR, which is a downside but that means at least they're getting games for the loan club.
So a player who isn't good enough to get any games for you will increase by 6 OR over 3 seasons. Doesn't that mean that he'll probably still not be good enough to play when he comes back after 3 years? Especially, since our sides improve in quality every year.
The 76 OR rated 16 year olds are all regens though, complete with all their previous incarnation's specialist skills. I'm currently at the stage where such players do get a game every week. So perhaps once my starting 11 is completely filled with upper 80s OR players, I will reconsider the approach.
By the way, what happens to players' abilities in the youth squad? Do they improve or just gain age?
True, they are all regens but they're the only ones worth promoting from the youth team if you ask me. (unless you find a rare gem that isn't a regen) I think when you get onto your 3rd, 4th seasons etc this approach works well.
Yes players in your youth team still improve but much slower, I had Downing in mine for ages who I didn't take any notice of at all until I noticed one day he had slowly creeped up to 78OR! Promoted him and sold him on straight away.
Promoting them and loaning them out will presumably still count towards my max squad limit of 32!?
