How to Negate the Scripting?

Unless the CPU scores right after kick-off you might consider being a total douche and just time waste for the rest of the game by just passing between your defenders after you have taken the lead. That might change the outcome. As far as I know the CPU doesn't realize this and starts to press as high as a human player would. But then again, I don't think the CPU is capable of considering you a douche either :)

aha, I did this loads of times back in my PES5 days. LB, CB,CB,RB.. CB,CB,LB. Sometimes even being daring and including a winger or MF.

:)

Looks like the scripting/handicapping reduces or even isn't there, when having no passing assist. Maybe its just me.

EDIT:Still scripting and handicapping

So, back to my original question...

Maybe I'm stupid, but I'm not seeing where people have edited the AI of previous generations of the game. Is this actually possible?

Ok, so I'm asking for the help of my fellow members here. First a quick venting:

I've bought both FIFA 15 and PES 15 (at a combined cost of over US$100), and to be honest, while PES far outclasses FIFA in terms of gameplay, I've been sorely disappointed with both games. They both seem to rely on scripted routines and pre-determined outcomes for "excitement".

For instance, I've never been able to catch a winger running down the flank in either game. Instead, my player's path is taken over by the CPU and just locked in behind the winger.

Another example: I'm playing a Master's League season as Barca, and my first match against Napoli always ends in me losing. I've Ctrl+F4'd out of the application in frustration several times, killed the process and restarted four times now, always with the same outcome. If I score a goal, the CPU IMMEDIATELY scores another, from some impossible cross. No matter what buttons I press, my players don't react. They just watch the ball go right past them. When I review the CPU's goals in instant replay, I can't see anything I could have done differently to defend against the goal, leading me to believe that this is simply a pre-programmed routine the game is running.

It isn't the losing that bothers me; it's that the outcome has been decided before I even start playing. This isn't difficulty; difficulty implies the chance, however small, of success. I feel like I paid $40 for an animated GIF.

So my question is: what am I doing wrong? Do I just not understand how PES works? Do I just not understand soccer well enough? I'm totally willing to admit I'm wrong if that's the case (I hope it is, in fact) and learn. Or is this really how the game is supposed to work? If so, is there anyone on EARTH who actually enjoys this?

Again, if there's a way to negate the game's scripts, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I'll stick to piracy for sports games from hear on out.
I'm totally agreed with u,
Those unpredictable chooses and my bumped up defenders and first time shots of cpu forward ends with inevitable goals is very annoying.
Most of the time all these happened against a weak team with player stats around 55-60!?!?

I tried the system.bin trick. It's still ridiculous. I'm frantically tapping A, the game decides when or even IF it's going to tackle. CPU players grab me and pull me behind. Every challenge - literally, every challenge - is a yellow card. The ball deflects to a CPU player nearly 100% of the time.

SERIOUSLY! What the fuck is this? On what planet does this seem like a good idea? I'd really love the opportunity to talk to someone who helped make this 'game' so I could try to understand what they were thinking. No matter how I try to think about the game, I always end up in the same place - it's just garbage. Same with FIFA.

Sports is all about a contest - a competition. A prerequisite of any competition is fairness, i.e., we all play by the same rules. You don't get to do things I can't do. Why is this most basic principle of ALL sports missing so consistently? I only play soccer games, so I don't know if this is the case in basketball, baseball, etc. sims, but it's unacceptable, especially for such and expensive TOY which is what video games are.

If they spent half the money on developing their product as they did marketing it, we'd have something amazing, that I'd happily pay the asking price for. I don't give a shit about graphics, or licenses or stadiums (seriously, it's background art - who cares?) I want to feel like I'm playing the sport, when I'm too beat up and old to actually go out and play the real thing. I'd rather the players were stick figures, if it meant the game plays realistically.

This looks like yet another example of someone who is terrible at the game deciding to blame scripting. The fact that you are frantically pressing the A button shows me that you don't know how to defend and therefore earned all those yellow cards. When I play I have to try to get a card so obviously it is possible to defend without getting cards.

Get better at the game and you'll see that 95% of the scripting is all in your head.

Had what most people here would call scripting happen to me last night, I just chalked it up to bad defending on my part. Was down 2-0 with 10 minutes left, scored 2 goals in the next 5 minutes to tie it. In stoppage time the West Brom striker who isn't very good had the ball and 3 of my guys couldn't bring him down as he walked half the field and scored. Did I blame scripting? No, I blamed myself. I could've easily had one of those 3 players foul him which would've stopped his run, but I didn't and the end result was a score.

But, then I went down and scored a minute later to tie it again. I'm surprised my Playstation4 hasn't posted a message in this thread complaining about being the victim of scripting after my late goal!?!?!

You can tell I don't know how to defend by the fact I use manual standing tackles? You must be quite an analyst.

If three of your defenders couldn't stop someone from walking the ball into the net from midfield, it sounds like you are the one who doesn't know how to defend. Perhaps you could elaborate on your defensive strategy?

I guess I didn't make myself clear. I'm not saying I'm great at the game, I'm struggling with it as well. But, I'm able to recognize that the my struggles are my own doing and not the result of scripting.

That said, I do defend differently than you and have had no trouble with cards so I'm happy to tell you how I do it. I constantly use the square button and hvae my teammates pressure the ball. At the same time I try to stay in front of my opponent and use the L2 button as much as possible to block their path and get in the way of passing lanes. I basically try to slow them down while my teammates pressure. Also, I switch frequently which sometimes triggers an animation that helps you knock the ball from your opponent. I never use the tackle button.

Big issue I've been having is using the square button in a bad spot and having one of my CBs charge recklessly at the ball leaving the middle wide open for a through ball. Lately, been paying attention to the CBs and not hitting square when they are the ones who will be summoned.

on the play with West Brom I played terrible defense, didn't get my player in front of the guy with the ball and instead had 3 guys being dragged by the ball carrier all the way up the field. Was it unrealistic? Yes. But did I blame scripting? No, because it was my own fault for not playing better defense.

Honestly, i'd just ignore those people, they're abilities to sense the cheating in this game just shockingly sucks.

How scripted was the Manchester City v Munich game the other night?! 2 goals just before half time (40' 45') and 2 goals in last few minutes (85' 90').

Im sick of it Konami!!!!

Again, granted there is some scripting in the game, but not to the degree that EA puts in their FIFA titles, I haven't really had a problem defending against it. I noticed that the higher spirit your squad has in myclub, the better it is against the AI's scripting or high pressure offense, my squad is up to 88 spirit and everyone plays like clockwork it's amazing.

Think Sabocat has raised a good point here. I've noticed similar occurances when playing Pro Evo as far back as winning Eleven 6 (Pes 3?) Me and my mate pick it up every year and we have a running joke about how "you KNOW" when the COM is going to score. Something isn't right - you can sense it coming. I don't like the term scripting, at the end of the day, all games are programmed and all non human players are programmed to act and react in a certain way. It's a double edged sword because one of the great thigs about PES is that it gives a feeling of 'anything can happen' like real football. This is fine until it becomes predictable. I mainly play MyClub mo have been on Superstar for quite a while now and one thing I have experienced is "knowing" or having a very strong feeling when the COM is about to score. I'm not saying every goal is predictable. There are tines when you have to hold your hands up and accept it. Sometimes you could have done better, others there's nothing you could have done and you just have to accept it. The most noticable (three times this has occured) is when you are having a great game, you're concentrating, trying to keep possession, attacking smart when you see an opportunity, not forcing the play. You go 1-0 up (in my case) you get to half time and you look at the stats. You're smashing them, more possession, more corners, more passes completed - the COM has barely been in your half. They've had 0 shots. THIS is the time to worry, I always make a note of when the COM has had 0 shots and this is why. You go out for the second half, more of the same, you still have all the possession, you're making chances, plenty of shots but you can't quite score. You aren't concerned because the goal is sure to come, and.if it doesn't, you'll take the 1-0. The COM can't even get the ball, and when they do, they break down when they get into your hslf, they still haven't even had 1 ATTEMPT... and then it happens. From nowhere, they score. You haven't played any different but from nowhere they made a chance, their passing goes right, the through ball is perfect, your defender has cement in his adizero's. Your pacey winger can't keep up with their 54 paced attacker. They're one on one, they casually tap it past Manuel Neur who... well basically didn't try to react like Neur (who has 98 for 1 on 1) Now. We all accept this could hsppen but it's the WAY it happens. I only just played a match on my club. 1-0 up, all possession, one of the best halves I've ever had. The other teams stats were inferior to be fair. The team spirit 76 compared to my 92 - and it showed. I dominated all areas and haf a whopping 14 shots in the first half. His keeper pulling off some incredible saves. Neur pulls off maybe 1 every 3/4 games for me. I noticed they'd had 0 shots and my heart sank (this isn't the first time this has happened) 1 or 2 shots I'd have been ok with but 0 seems to mean one thing. I won't score in the second half from another 10 shots. The COM will get a shot and if it does, it WILL score. And I KNEW when it happened, that moment! So, I had been playing defense mode all game, seemed to be workig out, the COM couldn't counter.or.exploit space as I have a deep back line. I was still getting plenty of chances despite playing technicslly 'defensive'. Just inside their half, I played a pass to my winger where the AI didn't quite connect. He let the ball roll past him and their left back picked up the ball "that's odd" I hadn't misplaced a pass all game. Their LB goes sprinting down the wing. Despite my back line playing deep all game they seemed to be quite high up, it left me in a 4v4 with my defenders on the back foot. I accept that as you have more possession, you're team naturally move upfield but it.just felt nervy, panicked. This hadn't happened all game. I told myself this was.it, they're going to.have their "chance" now! The left back plays a chip through ball, Martinez (a beast in the air) readys for the interception but doesn't quite time his header right, misses the ball. The ball is bouncing towards the 18 yard box, Neur comes (despite me not pressing triangle) and his forward turns on he burners, beats Neur to the ball and on a slightly narrow angle slots it in. This is the 88th minute. I have one final attack where I put a desperate cross in, my striker is free but opts for a side foot rather than a header, misses the ball and it rolls out. Final stats (I made note of them...

My Possession 67% - 33% COM
Pass Completion 88% - 67 COM
Corners 5 - 0 COM
Shots (on target) 17 (12) - 1 (1) COM.

This is the 3rd time I have "smashed" the com and been ahead at half time and noticed that they've had 0 shots and have ended up conceding, it's always from 1 shot, no more than that. I'm guessing the game is programmed where, the less shots (or in a case of 0) that the COM has had, it's accuracy increases? I'm not sure but as I say, it's predictable. Strangely I tend to worry less if the COM has had a few shots but not scored. If it is 0, I worry. As I said you csn usually sense when they are going to score also, maybe they get their first corner or free kick. Whichever way, the game seems to always be "close" it makes you play in fear. You go 2-0 up in the 68th, the COM scores from kickoff, so now you instantly have a game back on your hands. In cases where I see it out and win 2-1, I never feel that I've earned it, moreso that the COM has let me off. Has anyone else noticed something similar? For the record I buy zpES nearly every year and this is by far the best I have played in terms of animation, ball physics, at times it can be beautiful to watch some of the goals or passages of play. The times when I am "conned" or screwed over seem to be predictable, you can feel it happening and there's nothing you can do. I'd like to think it was just me but I can relate to alot of what Sambocat is saying.

This looks like yet another example of someone who is terrible at the game deciding to blame scripting. The fact that you are frantically pressing the A button shows me that you don't know how to defend and therefore earned all those yellow cards. I'm with you on the fact alot of people jump to the "this is scripted!" idea. A alot of people have better phrased it as bad programming. There are things we can do, defend better, manually shift the back line. But let's not pretend that ref's don't throw cards about like it's christmas. It's hard to give away a free kick and Nt receive a yellow. I don't mind as accumulated yellows don't mount to suspensions but the fact a fouled or tripped player doesn't even need to go to ground to warrant the ref getting his cards out is ridiculous. I think ref's have been overly strict for a while, maybe they could have varying strictness? I recall in FIFA 98, you could adjust refs tolerence via a slider

Before we all start complaining about scripting, maybe we should give some ideas on how to include dificulty levels in a game without script?
I mean, If you play regular level, CPU doesn´t behave as a human player too, making it too easy to score. That is scripting right?

Raising the dificulty means raising scripting, so the game feels harder, and maybe raising it too much shows unrealistic situations. People already know this happens on higher levels. Then people mix the scripting talk with the bugs talk and put them in the same bag, and then it looks like this is the worst game ever. Same year after year, and also, because people mentioned here, same with Fifa.
I played Fifa in world Class and never felt the scripting as some guys were pointing out, and I´m pretty sure some guys are complaining too much here too.

So, if there´s scripting, hell yes, there is. If it makes it impossible to win matches? No, it does not.
Does it make it unrealistic? hmm, depends on your point of view of real soccer and what happens in the game. Thing is, for every single "cheat" in this game, I can find an equal real life situation on youtube. Probably the main problem here is that in game, those situations are out of balance, and happen too often.

Ali

It is happening again
I haven't played that many matches yet. I have noticed a bit of scripting, but up to this point it doesn't feel quite as obvious and blatant as previous games, and it's certainly not up to the standard of Fifa 15's scripting, which is the worst scripting I've seen in any football game ever.

xicpanad - I think you'd struggle to find instances on youtube that match the bullshit I've experienced playing against the CPU on Fifa legendary difficulty. I'm certainly not complaining too much. When you see your GK stand motionless as a tame header rebounds off his body, then flops onto the ball, pushing it towards the oncoming striker, then you know there's something up. Or how 90% of the CPU goals involving a powered shot, that my keeper dives towards without even outstretching his arms. I just wish I had recorded some of the extreme bullshit moments.
You should try playing a career on legendary for a few seasons, and then come back to me. :)
