In FIFA the "finess" shooting-button works a marvel - and I really miss that in PES. The same buttom doesn't work as well in PES. That I miss.

I am not sure I completely understand what you mean. An example maybe needed. Maybe I missed something when I played it?

In the FIFA demo, there is a button assigned to a "finess shot". As I play with a costum setup for my controller, I have assigned the "Finess Shot" to the right trigger (Xbox360) - I don't not know what the default setup is.
The finess shot is a much more controlled shot, that is more accurate and much softer than a regular shot. I've used it to score some beautiful goals, by curling it around the keeper to the far post. An absolutely neccesary button to use, when you get used to it. The way you use it, is by holding the assigned botton and then push the shot button for the prefered amount. By using the "finess button" you can actually give the shot more power without either shooting too high or far.

In PES there is also one such button - but it's much harder to use? Here you press the shot button first for the desired strength - and then while the gauge is displayed - you'll have to quickly press and hold the "finess button". I have it assinged to the right trigger as well. But as you might probably guess, it's hard to get it right, because the timing is so essential - and there is not much time to get it right in.
So what I don't get is: why not just do as in FIFA, and you can press and hold the "Finess shot" button BEFORE you shoot?

As for my conclusion - I was in a bit of a hurry (as I am now! ;os ) and had to round everything off before I had actually said everything I wanted to say...(

It would have been so much faster if I could just say what i think instead of having to write it!!! ;o)

Well - I hope it cleared things up for you?

now peeps i absolutley love pes but i have a terrible feeling that fifa09 is going to be the number 1 football game this year.. ive played fifa09 and it seems pretty good. the online on the 360 using a 20meg connection is great.. theres a tiny bit of lag .. now ive played the pes demo and i dont think its all that.. im just hoping that the full game will be better.. now trust me peeps i cant stand fifa but this years fifa is cool.. so do any of u think fifa will be the daddy or pes.. cheers

dunno why you have a terrible feeling, at th end of the day you owe konami and PES nothing, we all just buy the best game, and thats been PES for ages, if FIFA is better then its not been unloyal to switch, like i said, you owe them nothing, as a consumer spending your money you buy what is best and most entertaining. i have fifa and it is pretty good, ive almost completed my season with man city and im close to winning the title, any other fifa and i would have got through about 3 games before never playing again so that tells me this year it is much better.

the pes demo isnt that great, thankfully i listen to music because they thud the ball makes on every kick is ridiculous. anyways ive played the demo on co-op 4 ways with the player select on and that was a lot of fun, i can see me playing PES for co-op and versus with friends, but FIFA09 for the league season, unless i get hooked on the ML again, then fifa wont get a look in but judging by the demo its nothing special.

i will reserve full judgement for release

the "finesse" shot is same in both games and was introduced by PES. its the right trigger on the alternative set up on FIFA, which i use because its more like PES. your telling me that you can hold the button on FIFA to do it, you cant becuase its the run fast button on that set up, you press it with the gauge and you do the same in PES. FIFAs shooting feels more scripted, sure this button makes you do outside of the boot shots but it doesnt feel like the player chooses the right type of shot for the situation alot of the time. the "finesse" shot is easy in PES and FIFA imo, Henrys great at it in PES, coming in from that left hand side and side footing it right in the top corner with swerve, its what he use to do at arsenal

If somone comes on here with attitude who has joined within 1-2 months (not aimed at R9nald9) i just dont take anything they say seriously. I may have joined in 2008 but in April we knew absolutly nothing about this game.

This year i think the ML will have some spice because so far from what i can tell in the demo its hard to beat the comp. You may be able to dominate but scoring and winning is quite difficult.

This is true, FIFA 09 lacks in depth attacking. No matter what I tried, including various usages of the finesse button, I found that shooting only has two modes: ON or OFF.

wen i played the fifa demo i was physically sick, all over my ps3 and to prefer the game play of fifa you obviously aint a pes fan because fifa would have to completley remake the games engine and start again to grab any pes fans attention. Remember, you can't pollish a turd.

Very true. To me a pes fan cant like fifa this year and anyone who does isnt a true decent pes fan. I know that sounds fanboyism but its true. You cant call yourself a true pes fan if your in love with fifa. Their just 2 completely different representations on the game. 1s got great gameplay and 1 has licenses and its that simple and anyone who sais they love fifa gameplay definetly isnt a true pes fan cos its hardly changed. Yes, my friend bought it and ive played it with him so i know what im on about. Dont give me all the bullshit opionon crap either. Im aloud to have mine aswell you know.

I'm a huge PES fan, probably one of the biggest - after all I made a website dedicated to the game all those years ago. But it just doesn't do it for me anymore. It's a game which has been stuck with the hand brake on for the past 3 years, while FIFA has been in 5th gear. This year, FIFA 09 is probably going to be my game of choice. I've been playing it for a week now fairly solidly and it feels like such a complete game.

Admittedly, like everyone else on here, I haven't played the final PES 09 game, so will of course reserve full judgement until then - but the demo just felt totally stiff. The players movement was very rigid, almost as much so as PES1 on the PS2. Furthermore the ball would appear to stick to the turf as if it was velcro.

FIFA, once you master the shooting, the physics seem far more spot on. The pace may be slight lacking if it is an entirely 'fun' experience you are looking for, but there in an option to rectify this for the more lively multi-player gaming experience.

I have to agree, having played both it really boils down to game play vs licenses. FIFA09 game play (to me) is robotic and sometimes appears scripted as others have mentioned. Having said that it's odd that some insist on casting judgment on a demo by comparing it to the full version of FIFA09. Even the demo of FIFA09 wasn't completely the same as the demo.

It appears to me that some of those who complain about PES do so because of the lack of licenses (funny because FIFA09 doesn't have all of them either) and using other "generic" excuses in place of it. While they tend to ignore the short comings of FIFA09 because they can play their preferred team. Just my observation.

So far I really don't know all the licenses will come with the retail version. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Who gives a fuck about PES fans or FIFA fans???. I am a FOOTBALL fan, therefore I wanna play the game that depicts FOOTBALL the best. I aint buying the games for my love of EA or Konami... you FANBOYS (of either franchise) need to fuckin grow up. Slating someone over their own personal opinion is a waste of time.

I actually agree with this :) I personally prefered PES after playing both demos but if people prefer Fifa that's cool. We have two good choices this year it would seem so let people play what they want.

If that were the case there wouldn't be Fifa09 folk in the PES 2009 forums praising FIFA09 for example. "Football fans" are still separate thing from the games they like to play. Neither FIFA09 or PES 2009 is a complete replica of FOOTBALL.

If you like football that's something you are either going to watch or participate in real life. That really has nothing to do with the game one plays.

Yes, what I said is correct. Here, let me explain why:
When you watch or participate in RL what takes precedent:
1. You talk about the game
2. You discuss who played well and who didn't
3. You see how your team ranks
etc

When you play the game:
1. You discuss graphics
2. You observe game play mechanics
3. You hope that it comes with all the licenses, etc
etc

As you can see 2 completely different mindsets between being a real "Football fan" and one who likes playing it on computer/console.
