So I started a Wigan master league and I'm doing very well. I'm sitting pretty at the top of the table with only 3 losses at about midway through.

Now, I know this game is suppose to be realistic and I love that about PES....

BUT

I just cannot stand the AI passing around the back wasting time for almost the entirety of the game. Yes, in real life you would try to do that to frustrate a team at a higher level than you but in a game? no, it's not fun at all. I usually have about 30% possession.

What should I do to my tactics?

It's a real pain in the arse sometimes. I get frustrated with it too, particularly over the last few weeks. It's especially stupid when you're a goal or two up, and they still do it, or when they reach the final third, and STILL pass it back to their defence.
I just kinda let them do it now, and hope they fuck it, and have my revenge by putting 6 past them.
My main advice would be to delete that ML, uninstall PES 2015, and burn the disk, and THEN commit self harm, over the shame of picking fucking Wigan!!

Disclaimer: This is a joke, please don't actually do that!

Most important thing: difficulty level. In which do you play?

As for the tactics there has been a lot discussed. I advise you to go through the forums rather then we giving you direct links for those posts, you might (and will) discover more useful things.

HAHAHA I only picked Wigan because I wanted a team that I recognise well and wouldn't seem out of place in the Premier Leauge

If it makes you feel any better, Bolton were my 2nd choice. I even signed Stu Holden!

I play on Top Player difficulty but might amp it up to superstar soon. I'll have a look through the forums for answers. Thanks for the advise! :D

Top Player is very good regarding that backline possession, it's almost non exitent. If you go to SS you'll be banging your head on the wall, the keyboard, the television, whatever, in less than 5 minutes.

That doesn't sound like much fun at all.

I've taken to just not touching my controller when the opposition gets the ball and letting them come into my final third. That's not how a game should be played :realmad::realmad::realmad:

It isn't. And the worst part is when you can outplay them, make beautiful attacking plays, acrobatic goals, etc, but you don't do it because you can't take the fucking ball from them. And even worse than the worst is when a fucking team whose best defender is Heskey and the best forward is Al-Habsi, does this with such ease that Barcelona would be in trouble.

I got to the point when I would pressure like a madman right off the kick off, to score a goal as early as possible, and then just leave them with their possession. Yes, because that possession only happens when they are losing. Go figure.

As a general method of defending you should let them approach you. You might have come across one of my posts in which I say something like "The closer they are to you and your goal, the more crowded the space is, the more players you have, the less passing lines they have, and mistakes will eventually happen.". It works rather well, and it's quite satisfying. But against that possession? Hell no, it isn't entertaining. I'd rather study Electromechanical Systems.

It's actually beneficial to chase them down when they're fucking about at the back. There will be plenty of times you'll just be chasing shadows, but they DO fuck up, and quite often. You will get oportunities to tackle the defender and go clean through on goal, so just stick at it.

I have benefited at times from this but it's mostly me chasing down defenders and wasting stamina for no reason at all...

Yeah this is basically the method I've stuck to. It's a shame really.

And the fact that it's only the shit teams that do this infuriates me. I won the FA Cup this season with Wigan and the games against Chelsea, United, and Southampton were actually extremely fun, high scoring games.

The problem, I think, is that the defensive formations for teams with possession style of play has medium number of players in attack and therefore they do not have enough open players to pass forward to. I saw this with Everton, they were using their Defensive formation against me and just passing it among the back four. After a while 9a few seasons, tbh) I started countering this by switching to "All out Defence" with "Aggressive" pressuring and moving my team in my own half by using the D-pad. This forced them to move forward and they usually misplace a pass or their pass gets intercepted and I get the possession back.

I too have noticed the AI goes in to "This is my ball no one is having it apart from me." This stuff is annoying.

I play one difficulty from the hardest setting.

I've also noticed how one game every now and then your players will just FALL over, or go flying after a soft challenge by the AI, wont pass the ball accurately, move like oil tankers.

The AI gets way with murder with its challenges, but if you nick the ball just a tad to hard from the AI its a free kick AND yellow card.

I have had one free kick near the box in about 12-15 games, that cant be normal can it?
I've also only had one penalty..

I sometimes get wound up and try smashing the cheating AI from behind, one game a kenwin jones for cardiff turned in to some kind of man of steel, sometimes i cant even foul them its that hacky.

I echo this point mate! Actually i think that this has been the case for the last 4-5 pes games, which has resulted in much less playing time

However i developed this "tactic" a little bit - instead of not touching the controller i use the R2 (I'm on playstation) and rarely L1 when defending. I just control the player and then call extra defender to tackle and win the ball (square button). VERY effective, even though less intervention from the consol user is not fun at all..

I used to defend konami and pes for several years, no matter how awful the game was. I kept on saying "next year it will be amazing" "just give them a chance on the next gen consoles etc".
I think pes15 was finally looking and feeling a lot better, but then you experience these things that makes you want to throw the controller against the wall but instead you laugh :)
