Hi there,
I don't really think it is mainly down to managers. Personally, I think when the computer wants to let your opponent score there is little you can do (yes scripting!) and yes frustrating silly stuff will happen during the play leading up to the goal or even just during the game to pass the time and stop you from actually getting anywhere! So when this is happening expect to chase the ball all over the pitch only for the opposition to side step you at the last minute, or if you somehow stumble into them and get the ball some weird voodoo happens (your player goes lala for a second) and they get the ball back, or you are forced to play wide and funny enough all your passing options dry up (this usually occurs are you are entering their half). Anywhoooooooooooo.... everyone knows how I feel about scripting (or what I like to call 'the advantage' - if your team has it you they play well and you get chances I,e, everything works are it should, when you don't have it your team behave like clowns and your options dry up and AI can just score at will!).
However, there is light at the end of the tunnel (even if it's a little sporadic) - ignoring all that (I know it's extremely frustrating and at times makes you want to turn the game off grab a semi-automatic machine and a handful of grenades and head down to Konami HQ ok ok so maybe not but the potential to get frustrated is extremely high, what's more frustrating is that some people don't even think it (the scripting or 'advantage') exists! Gah! Have they a not a brain?? Or perhaps they just dont play MyClub, or both!
Anyway try to ignore the bad moments and focus on the good because there is good here to be found.
Even though some things will be out of your control, what you have to do is try and make the things that are in your control better, so for starters try and match the strategic links in your team (i.e. player and manager links). Second, and this sounds harsh - though I don't know what difficulty you play on, is start losing a few games to offset the difficulty if you are trying to play Vs people with a poor team (one in the 50-60 spirit level) you will get absolutely stuffed, and tbh I don't even think online vs people is any more balanced, of the games I've played the same scripting mechanisms applied but lets stick to the positives...
So lose a few games and keep scouting, if you have a full team convert the new players (unless you get some nice stat players) into trainers and top up your team. After the losses begin to fix your team from the ground up, hopefully you have a manager with a formation you are happy playing (I find this extremely important to match your play-style) so personally I play 4-2-3-1 (which is the team I use's ((Arsenal)) real formation, so I play with a lone striker and I instinctively know what my options are on the pitch without looking at the radar (although I do that ofc to avoid offside during out of screen runs) but it makes a difference. Now make sure each player is in the best position they can be (with exception of your strikers for I use Neymar as a lone striker yet he's supposedly a left-winger and he is a goal machine, same if I had Ronaldo I would not play him on the wing or anywhere in midfield as is his default position in this game), so some things you can make work outside of normal system.
Because you have lost games the difficulty should be rock bottom and from here you can begin to build (team spirit won't suffer that much), because of the losses your GP will take a hit but after a few wins you should begin to see some links appearing between players. Then from there you begin to win some as well as losing but you should notice that you will lose after a few wins because the difficulty adapts, so you can never 'milk' the GP system. But keep your chin up and let me know how you get on.
P.S. I think having at least one key striker is vitally important - doesn't matter if you have a wonder midfield and defence because in this game the only defences is having a goal buffer, so in each game aim for at least a 2 goal lead and don't be afraid to pass around defensively during late game to waste time (just know when to get rid of it if getting closed down quickly). One more tip - there is no reward for being a crowd pleaser in this game so when you have a goal scoring opportunity you want to be as efficient as possible (I use advanced shooting) so keep your shots low and either side of the keeper (I just hold back0left/right) and your man should just tuck them away - if a little further out just use a bit more power, yes of course you can score the odd screamer but keep those for when you are 2-3 goals up. But when you need that second goal buffer be as efficient and ruthless as possible.
