For those who can't be bothered to read it, basically Iceland won't be in FIFA 17 because EA only offered them £11k for their rights, and were told to sod off! Could be an interesting future development in the battle for licenses? If I was Konami I would be straight onto this and getting Iceland licensed for a data pack update!

So Konami would have to pay more than 11k for Iceland?
That's a lot of money tbf.

11k is nothing for a company the size of EA sports who regularly fleece customers, hope Konami snap up the Iceland national team.

It is quite interesting, although moreover very depressing. If more and more club and international teams are going to have to become individually licenced for games, we all sadly know who is going to win the bidding wars. And it won't be the game that plays the best football.

In the end the fact that EA has all the licenses is because it has more money...
11k seems a lot for Konami.

£11k is a lot of money to a huge game studio? Really?!! I wonder how much they paid for Barcelona, bet it was slightly more than £11k!!

The point I was making, where EA hesitate is the point where Konami should be jumping in, stealth like, to get more licenses even if it is just smaller ones.

I totally agree. Personally I think PES will either lose that battle and disappear within the next couple of years or so, OR do what they should do anyway and release a completely licence-free game but allow the player to edit every single facet of the game (kits, emblems, stadiums, boots, balls, scan in proper faces, loads of slots for new teams etc etc). I would much rather that to be honest.

I don't think PES will disappear, they have made great progress the last few years and are starting to become more focused on licensing. Also as you mentioned if the licensing reaches a very low point in PES they will definitely make it possible to edit more. I really hope at least the old features would return (face scan, stadium editor etc.). As long as PES has fifpro license, they can even add more leagues of fifpro countries, even if they have fake kits etc. The more leagues in the game, the better if it is still possible to edit.

FIFA and EA SPORTS are placing more and more restrictions on PES and Konami in terms of licenses. So Konami are finding more and more ways around them. This year (on PS4) they've practically opened the game up again like the glory years of Pro Evo, in terms of its edit mode. Making it once again simple and easy to get these unlicensed teams fixed. EA SPORTS have gradually strangled away even team likeness. Meaning we're left with a football game where "Man Blue" and "Man Red" are playing in black home kits with blue and red trim. This almost forces the serious Pro Evo player into doing something about it. Now that Konami have made it easy once again and really listened to its community and opened it up for them, more and more people will cross over. 10-15 years ago NO ONE I knew even bothered with FIFA. Everyone was into and playing Pro Evo. Either on their own or against one another.

Konami are slowly (but surely) getting back to this. Take it from me.
