I know how the stuff works as I work for a FMCG company myself.
Where we as players (read CONSUMERS because that's what the people @ KONAMI call you during their meetings) think that if we come up with suggestions and tips and advise KONAMI is going to listen...well my friends, 95% of the times YOUR WRONG..There are only 2 things KONAMI cares about...erm maybe 3.. Gross Margin,Turnover and Market Share. That means that your suggestions mean f*ck ol most of the time. The people at the office are just looking at how can we "re-heat" the soup the most clever way, lower cost, generate more turnover and thus margin. So you have to make choices. What are we going to add, AND what are we going to give a makeover.

I can't speak on the other parts. I rarely play Master League anymore. And MyClub..meehhh..If I want to play a "Manager" type of mode..NOTHING beats Footbal Manager..So..When I buy a PES game I go straight to BAL creation. Same thing when I buy a NBA2k game..straight to "My Career"..but anyways...coming to the reason of my thread..I'm sorry but it feels like BAL2016 has just been given a makeover I don't see any improvements AT ALL, IMO it has gotten worse..the last good BAL I played was PES2013..which was simply Brilliant!!!
The AI teammates were smart..They could PASS or give a pinpoint through ball...their runs..ohhh..I think I just had an orgasm thinking about that gameplay in BAL2013....Now coming back to 2016 after deliberately skipping 2014..(didn't want the dissapointment as I knew KONAMI would do something to fuck up my 2013 BAL gameplay) and about 2015..well ermm google that..nuff said...

So 2016..which people told me was the pinnacle of modern day footy games..So I bought it from steam after giving it some days of thought...ANDDDD...I'm sorry but instead of Jizzing my pants..I am pissing them...What the hell happened to my beloved BAL..I mean how can you kill an element like this

Some of the things I've noticed in which case my computer said NOOO:

* Refereeing:I fart on a Baca player foul..I get launched in the air.."good tackle"..the old 98% foul given to the AI and 2% to the real life player aye..
* Momentum: Really?....so Dani Alves can run rampantly between 3 of my teammates..give the ball to Iniesta..go to Suarez no look pass to Neymar who trick 4 of my players and score...really?..OK....
* The Gauge (shooting/passing): I don't mind the gauge and I understand you can't have 95% passing accuracy, but I can't play "Tiki Taka"with the gauge loading up with the speed of Tess Holliday doing a burpee. I can't get jiggy with this sh!t..same goes for shooting (however I DO find a gauge for shooting more fair..than one for passing)
*Through ball/passing: My teammates give me through balls with the speed that only Usain Bolt could catch. Also Passing ..clearly a ground pass is more logical yet they seem to somehow think a pass in the air would somehow be more beneficial

I'll stop here because there's more..but I don't want to turn this into a "Reasons why i don't like PES2016" thread..

But come on If the guys at KONAMI wanted to re-heat the soup why use BAL2015 to do so instead of 2013 which everyone seemed to love.

To be fair..maybe I am getting old...well even suck at it now maybe..maybe I'm just turning like my mum trying to figure out how to Skype..I have been playing this bloody game since it was called ISS...maybe my old ass should just dust off the PS2 and play that...Maybe I'm getting dellusional and BAL 2016 is perfect...maybe just maybe...

Well, there are a few points you have touched upon.

I agree with the marketing techniques of Konami because that's pretty much the business strategy of any functioning company. Blizzard have been doing it with WoW for over 15 years. Recoloring textures and recopying models etc etc - add some microtransactions, take some things away only to add them later and boom you have yourself an expansion! PES is the same (with exception of 14 which was pretty much an overhaul) but regarding PES 15 and 16 yea 16 could have been a patch!

But also think about Konami's losses and out-goings. Like FIFA, I'd say a pretty large amount of the development purse is spent on licencing of players, associations, and teams. I'm sure this has greatly increased over the years, and take a look at EA, it's clear they have the muscle to pay for their licenses but they too want to create each series with minimal developmental work - the real changes to a game these days come in the shape of how it is marketed. Simply pay the major visible game sites for glowing reviews/awards and slap some Champions League celebrity on the front of the game then flood the internet with hype. This all takes revenue, so think what is actually left for core development on an interactive or mechanical level, and that's before you start adding the deductions for Piracy, I'd say not much.

In fact I can safely vouch that the coding for gameplay for PES has not changed in any fundamental way since PES 2008 - the same niggling problems and pathing restrictions applied then as they do now.

The big difference with the modern versions of PES they are marketed more towards a younger audience, which makes sense because more kids know about football, more play and more will potentially buy the game aaaaand lets face it they're easily convinced/satisfied.
So, when Konami programmers actually do come to look for issues from consumers they'll be overwhelmingly met with comments on sites stating.. "10/10"..."5/5"..."5 Stars"..."Great Game!"..."Best yet!"..."love you Konami" ...and if they manage to trawl beyond that, somewhere near the middle they might see something alone the lines of "Could you change the goal keeper gloves from orange to green?"..."I don't like the Chilean away kits"..."I don't like the pillars in stadium X they aren't like the real ones"...and then below those buried away (on sites like this) they'll eventually (if at all) uncover the REAL fundamental problems with the actual working mechanics of the game problems such as scripting, AI banding, lack of pathing etc. So when you think about it the same kids just help skew the chance to real changes getting through.

But look at it from Konami/EA's perspective, with said kids in mind;
All it takes for them is to see Messi (or some other 'celebrity') on the front cover, nice glossy graphics or mention of a new engine or control system (anyone remember the 'heart-system'?) accompanied by all the typical positive reinforcing hype from the usual sources (IGN etc) and they're in, the only choice they need to make is which game to get and when you think about that you understand why both companies spend so much on the marketing, yet little do those kids know that both games are nearly one in the same housing the same issues on coding the same on pathing restrictions etc blah blah et al.

But look, I don't blame Konami for this strategy, though it isn't great for the game in the long run (just think of how much they have hurt the product through mismanagement and consumer neglect), underneath there is a war going on - A war where each company (and every company trying to succeed) try to keep the negativity at the bottom and the positivity at the top and keep the kids will keep buying, looking at the trend it's an almost given. When you control all aspects of choice you win as a company.

In my view the whole scene needs rejuvenated, or a kick up the ass and more competition would do just that. I only wish Bethesda or a very good independent company would create a football game and put all their resources and developmental energy into how the game plays and avoiding licenses by keeping an option for editing. I for one would I'd happily forgo the licenses of teams/players/kits if I had a brilliant game with an area to edit my own.

Wouldn't that be nice?
